Today we're going to talk about UPRO and TQQ, and how these triple leveraged ETFs could make you about $1 million if you invested $ 20,000. So $10,000 each, $10,000 in UPRO, $10,000 in TQQ, and you'll see that they would make you $1 million over 10 years. Here we see UPRO on Morningstar, UPRO, and 10,000 turned into about 200,000 in 10 years.
And then you have TQQ, the triple- leveraged Nasdaq. UPRO is S&P, TQQ is Nasdaq, both with triple leverage. That brought you 750,000. So together they brought you about $1 million , TQQ and UPRO. So if you just had $10,000 each, again, you would make $1 million. So , that's all you need to do in this world, right ?
Just invest 10,000 in UPRO, 10,000 in TQQ and you are on the right track. Well, that's exactly what I did when I was in my early 20s. I'm 36 now. I started investing when I was 19. And what really gave me a good start in life was day trading from zero to 2,000. I invested 200 dollars, grew it to 2,000 thanks to salaries and stuff.
And then I day traded and brought the amount to about $12,000. Yes, it fluctuated between eight and $12,000 for a year or two. Then I discovered that it was impossible to beat the S&P through day trading. 90% of traders lose money. This is my main complaint about Reddit, all these traders who think they can beat the market and guess the timing, but 90% of the time they fail.
So when someone listens to them , you have to keep these statistics in mind. Then I thought, okay, if you can't beat the S&P, how can you beat the S&P but safely? I was in the S &P 500, watching the movie " Wall Street," and Gordon Gekko told Charlie Sheen in the locker room that none of these fund managers could beat the S&P because they were all chasing worthless ideas and they were all sheep.
They are all sheep. And lightning struck in the movie like thunder, and it was like a flash of light in my head: Oh, how do I beat the S&P but not be a sheep chasing all these other worthless investments? Well, I found the S&P 500 with triple leverage—UPRO. So, when I discovered UPRO two or three years after I started trading, it changed my life, because at that time I had, let's say, $10,000 to $20,000.
And I used UPRO around 2008-2009 to invest my entire account in UPRO and that increased my capital to around 100k. Um, as you saw in the Morningstar test, this is what happened during 2010 and 2011, when we had a double-dip recession after 2008. We had a lot of volatility, and I took advantage of that volatility by putting everything into UPRO.
And every time I lost a thousand in UPRO, I bought another thousand because UPRO depreciated. And people always told me that it was a losing strategy. UPRO is depreciating. He won't return to his old highs. But if you go to E*TRADE and look at the UPRO chart, you will see that it has always come back and made new highs.
It has not depreciated. So if you look at the overall UPRO chart, you will see that it has been making new highs. On the 5-year chart, there are new highs. And on the all-time chart, it rose to new highs. Now, you can't say the same about industry triple funds. Let's say the defense sector, which includes Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and the like.
Look, he never went back to his old highs, okay? Most industry triple funds depreciate so much that they never return to their old highs. But I studied the indices very deeply and noticed that they were still returning to their old highs. Every time, during every bear market, the indices, the triple leveraged indices, would return to new highs.
Although not as high as the S&P rose. There was some depreciation. There is no doubt about that. But look at the Morningstar test, it still made you $1 million . But here's my problem with UPRO and TQQ, and TQQ, again, is the Nasdaq version, so it moves more than the S&P, which is UPRO. My problem is that when I had about a hundred thousand and I had a child, I was about 30 years old.
When I had about a hundred thousand, I said I needed a house for my child and I needed to make a down payment, and I had money for the down payment, about 20,000. But the banker needed income certificates. So this is the point in the video where I'm going to get really hot and really passionate. I hope I can hold back because I didn't make a video yesterday because I was on the Reddit forums and this is what I get there.
So , if we go to Reddit, you'll see here that yesterday I posted one of my articles about which funds have outperformed the S&P over the last 10 years. And someone here said "SPXL", which is an identical version of UPRO. So I said, "Oh, I agree, SPXL definitely outperformed." And I wrote here, "Yes, I told my short story about how I went from 20 to 100,000." But then, when I turned 30 and needed a house, the banks wouldn't accept the proceeds from UPRO.
They needed a verifiable income, such as a salary or dividends. Then an idea flashed in my head . Invest in funds that are tied to the S&P 500 but that pay dividends instead . This way I can live in retirement while getting loan approval for things without working. And look, I got -4 votes " against".
-4. Someone else right after me says, "I just want clean money. Money is money." I replied, "I like money too, but the banks won't accept it. If I withdraw funds from my 401K IRA early, there will be penalties." So I do both. I own UPRO and seek large capital gains, and I also choose four- and five-star dividend funds on Morningstar so they are bank-friendly.
So, I also got another -2 here. USA is an example of a fund that has outperformed the S&P or performed slightly better, but it pays 10% in dividends that banks accept, replacing the need to work to get loans. -2 on Reddit. So, I want to go back to the Morningstar test and show you what USA did, okay?
USA earned about $43,000 on $10,000. So, you can see here, okay, let's go. Let's say $40,000, a little over 38. So let's call it $40,000. Well, how much did S&P earn? SPY, the S&P, which is a four-star fund, earned about the same amount. He earned 40,000, just like USA, but USA has a 10% dividend, which allows him to get approval from banks.
So, that's a huge hole in everyone's arguments. And that's why Schwab SCHD doesn't compare to what I do with USA, because Schwab...by the way, let's do the Schwab test. You've seen it in past videos, but Schwab, who everyone is just madly in love with on Reddit and YouTube, five stars, I get it. But look, he earned less.
This is normal. It earned less than the S&P. 40,000—that's the blue line on Schwab. Blue line, Schwab. It didn't even hit 40. So USA and SPY made more than Schwab D. And everyone is still obsessed with Schwab D. And I get it. Again, it held up well in a bear market. But this is where I start to get heated again.
Schwab D does not allow for approval at banks. Of course? And if you sell Schwab D to pay rent each month , you will have to pay taxes and you will lose your income base. No matter how small an income you have there, 3 % or even 4%, you will lose that base by constantly selling shares to pay rent. And you lose the base of your profits not only from dividends, but also from the very ability to receive capital gains.
You are destroying your own capital base. So when I spend my dividends, which as you can see here is 383,000 of net account value. Two days ago it was around 390, but I had bills. I spent a lot on bills, but as you can see, my brokerage account is still in the black at 23%, and our income level hasn't changed.
In fact, it even grew because we added dividend reinvestment to our program . So, our income reached 101,000. And I was withdrawing money to pay the bills. And yet I get funds that are suitable for banks, and at the same time I do not destroy my capital base. So I prefer to have a little bit of both.
You need to have UPRO and you need to have these dividend companies. Because if you just stay with UPRO and you want to... let's see, we're up $2,000 today, it looks like $ 1,600. The market just opened. So, I mean, that's more money than you'd make, you know, at Schwab every day, I'm sure. However, the market grew by 0.37, Nasdaq by 0.7, S&P by 0.19, and we grew by 0.26.
So, as always, we are moving in step with the market. And again, our net worth has dropped in the last few days because I've been paying bills. So, our margin is also increasing because I was buying assets in decline. It was 237, we had about 225, but I was adding new positions on the decline while the market was rolling back.
This is part of the plan. I mean, why not? They bring me higher interest rates. I get a higher return from owning them than I do paying interest on margin. So I will do it whenever the market provides the opportunity. I just need to make sure the amount available for withdrawal is not too low. By the way, I learned about portfolio margin, it would increase my withdrawal limit by about 15–20 thousand.
However, they have different rules. If you receive a margin call on portfolio margin, you have 1 day to cover it. And with T-margin , that is, traditional, as I understand this abbreviation, I have 7 days to exit the margin circle. We will dedicate the next video to interest rates: what the Fed is really saying and why it is worth investing in downturns.
We'll come back to this later, but I want to summarize: UPRO and TQQ brought in a million dollars in 10 years. And yes, we have a little UPRO. There is also TQQ, but in the form of sold put options. So if we have to buy them out, I'll be happy, because I hope to make a good profit, considering that the market has fallen sharply in the last two years.
This is the perfect time to buy more triple funds: invest $10,000 and get a million in 10 years if the market repeats the results of the last decade . We just experienced the worst bear market since 2008. Therefore , I believe it is time to invest $10,000 in each position. That's what I do with triple funds, but I won't invest 50,000 in each one, because why do I need that much money?
I still won't be able to confirm their origin at the bank. I saw yesterday how a YouTuber said in his video that he earned 500,000 in a year. Well, he had to pay so much tax on his YouTube income. He had to pay about 150 thousand in taxes or something like that. So, he has 400 thousand left. But with this 400 thousand he was supposed to buy a house, however, as he said, he had no confirmed income, and this is the whole point of what I am trying to explain to you.
His YouTube views rose and fell. And for the bank, this is unstable income. So he couldn't get credit based on his YouTube earnings. He had to pay for the house in cash. I imagine it really broke him, and he put the rest into his investment account. Well, he won't touch this investment account like I will my brokerage account, he seems to have placed the money elsewhere.
So when you trust money to someone else, you can't take it back. There are withdrawal penalties, 401k penalties, IRA penalties, and even if you are credited with dividends on a 401k or IRA, you don't get them in your hands. Your account only grows by this amount, you cannot withdraw and spend them. And banks don't count it as income.
These are the loopholes and pitfalls of 401k, IRA, and regular work. I don't want to alienate my followers by saying that a job, a 401k, or an IRA is bad. I think these are useful tools to use, especially employer matching programs to your 401k. I'm just saying that there's a strange idea on Reddit and among everyone I talk to personally that they just want to make a quick buck.
They don't really care about dividends. If they had a choice, they would choose quick money because the money comes faster than dividends, but you can't spend that money on Earth after you die. When you retire, get your 401k at 70 or whatever, you won't even be able to spend all that money, okay? It's hard to spend all that money if you don't want to leave anything for your grandchildren or set aside money for medical expenses you know you might need.
So, there are many reasons why you might have a million or two in retirement, but you can't use it because you have to save for medical care and living expenses. You want to leave something for your grandchildren. So, if you're waiting until you're 70 to make your million or two, I really believe that time is the most important money and currency, and you're just wasting it at work, where 80% of people feel unfulfilled.
If you love your job, that's one thing, but if you don't—I don't understand why you'd choose Schwab D and UPRO just for capital appreciation. I love them. I also want to earn money. But I don't want work to take up my whole life . Therefore, I want to receive dividends to meet the requirements of banks and not depend on work to buy a house or pay for a car.
This may push some of my subscribers away, but this is where I lose motivation to make new videos because we've hit a ceiling. If you only chase capital gains, you won't be able to do anything with it in life. Okay, of course. You make money, but where will you withdraw it from? From your 401k retirement account?
You will be fined. If you do this on a brokerage account , that's fine. Put 10,000 in a brokerage account, earn, get a salary in parallel and have your 401k. Just invest money in a brokerage account and make your million. Okay, great. But what if a bear market begins? And you're sitting with $10,000 in a brokerage account .
What if the market goes down and that $10,000 just melts away before your eyes? You probably don't care if you get paid, but you have to go to work to maintain this cycle: I don't make money from my brokerage account , but at least I work and pay the bills. Well, there's another problem with going to work and paying the bills .
I want to say something else. Time. Time is money. One more thing I want to say about time: you have 8 hours to sleep, 8 hours to work. So, you only have 8 hours a day left for your own life. And, you know, if you have a son, you don't even see him because he's at school for 8 hours and you're at work for 8 hours.
You sleep 8 hours, he sleeps 8 hours. You need to take him to soccer practice and many other places. You need to eat, you need to drive. I'm saying that commuting is another hour, each way, at least. So when you take everything into account, you need to eat three meals a day, have time for yourself, watch your shows to relax.
You don't have much time for yourself when you're working. So if you don't like the job, you better use the dividends to qualify, or UPRO won't be enough for you. Even if you made a million dollars on UPRO, what would you do? You will go and spend it somewhere. You are forced to work. You can't go on a trip.
You can only go on vacation for 2 weeks. What are you going to do? Buy a car for that million dollars? I... well , yeah, okay. Buy a car, have fun, but you know, cars get old. Things get old as soon as you buy them. They age quickly. The Bible says that the lust of the flesh can never be satisfied. So I've outgrown buying cars and nice things with my own money, because I did that for the first 10 years when I had 100k.
And all it did was make others jealous, give me no peace, and drive me even further into debt. So, you've seen the results of my value stock investments. We're still up 22%, you know, 22.8%. We are confidently beating the market. Nasdaq grew by 12, S& P by 5, and we grew by 22. Our income, as before, is over 100 thousand.
We never spent our fixed capital. People should seriously think about their lives. Yes, let's make a million on UPRO and TQQ, but let's also keep most of the money in dividends, because if you only choose the capital appreciation path, the banks here won't consider you, you won't even be able to use that money, and if you can, it won't bring you happiness.
And when you die, or when you receive them at age 70, there's not much you can do with them either . And when you die, you definitely won't take them with you. So you need dividends to qualify now. And that's my main complaint about Reddit. They only want to make money without any dividends. And they want to downvote my posts when I say I need dividends for banks.
They consider it some kind of foreign language. But if you're not trying to get approved at the bank through dividends, how the hell are you going to qualify through your job? And if you have a job, you better like it . If not, you're stuck until you're 70, and time is money, and you've just been cheated.
It's a huge scam to work at a job when you've spent all your wealth, your whole life, working there, and you can't even use the money . You can't even access them until you're 70, and when you do, I've already listed all the reasons why you can't even spend them. So please start looking at dividends and passive income now to get loan approval now so you can gradually get out of work.
And if you want to keep your job because you like it—great. This is your right. If I had a job I liked, I would be doing it right now, but I just haven't been able to find one. So, in the meantime , let's make money. Let's make money on UPRO and TQQQ, but let's also make money on dividends because they also outperform the market.
SPY, CLM here, I just showed you. USA, CLM, CLM bypassed the market. I always try to convince people here that CLM has surpassed Schwab. They say, "No, look at Fidelity's numbers. Look at all these different metrics." No, let's just see how much 10,000 brought. Let's look at the specific facts. 10,000 turned into 50,000 at Cornerstone.
You just saw it before the graph disappeared from the screen. 10,000 turned into 50,000. That's more than SPY, more than USA, more than Schwab D. So look at the damn facts on what made more money, and also look at the damn facts on what the bank approves so you can actually succeed in life. Thank you.
