The federal investigation into Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's potentially sham marriage may have begun much earlier than we thought. Fox News' chief congressional correspondent Chad Pergram reports live from Capitol Hill. Congratulations, Chad. Taylor, good morning. It is now much harder for Democrats to claim that Ilhan Omar's sham marriage allegations were just a conspiracy theory.
A report has emerged that the Obama-era Justice Department had evidence of a sham marriage as early as 10 years ago. President Trump is again criticizing Omar. The name Ilhan Omar is not Ilhan Omar. The name under which she was elected and sworn into Congress is Ilhan Omar. What is your name, Ilhan Omar?
I swear it's actually a completely different name. The statute of limitations on the alleged immigration fraud expired in 2016. The Biden-era Justice Department closed the investigation in 2021. Former President Obama accused Trump's Justice Department of intimidation and said people should be outraged.
Vice President Vance says prosecutors are acting impartially. In the Trump administration, we do not jump to conclusions. We let the facts and the law determine these decisions. I think you're seeing evidence that the American government is finally taking corruption seriously. Omar could use the current investigation as a tool during next week's election.
Ultimately, people who may not have been going to vote, thinking she would win easily, may see this as a referendum on President Trump and go to the polls to express their disappointment with this investigation. In particular, in her constituency. Now, questions may arise about Omar's eligibility for the next session of Congress if it is revealed that she entered the United States illegally and is ineligible to serve in the House of Representatives.

Especially if you're from her state, where there's been so much fraud and deception, I think it's entirely justified to increase scrutiny: are people telling the truth or are they trying to scam you? And this can apply to both spending money on autism centers and issues such as your immigration documentation.
If you represented a state that has so grossly abused the taxpayers' trust, I believe you owe it to the American people to be as candid as possible about how you got here and under what circumstances. And as Vice President Pence says, you investigate and let things take their course. Dagan would say that leadership starts at the top.
So, if there is a bad leader, right? This could spread to the rest of the state. I think, Brian, that's what you're hinting at. She may not be the root cause of the state's problems, but the leaders at the top are setting a certain precedent. If you are the CEO of a company, the responsibility lies with you.

These are age 25, residency in the state, and 7 years of citizenship.
And beyond that, things get more complicated, but you can deny a seat for misconduct , character, or politics, however, if the House wants to remove a member for other reasons, it must first grant them a seat and then remove them by a 2/3 vote. But given where this is headed in terms of control of the House, whether Republicans or Democrats, there won't be a 2/3 majority.
