On this developing topic: another dramatic twist —federal authorities raided a Beverly Hills estate as part of an investigation into former Democratic congressman Eric Swalwell. Swalwell resigned from Congress and dropped out of the race for California governor earlier this year after at least five women accused him of sexual harassment and rape.
Fox News Senior National Correspondent William La Jeunesse in Los Angeles with details on this story. William, what else can you tell us? Well, here's what we know at this point. Early this morning, the FBI raided the home of wealthy Los Angeles businessman Steven Klovechok, owner of the timeshare company Diamond Resorts.
Klovechok once briefly ran for governor of California as a Democrat before withdrawing his candidacy and supporting Eric Swalwell, who often stayed at his $100 million estate. While the FBI is not saying whether this warrant was part of Swalwell's case, they are not disclosing the exact reasons for the search.
However, the New York Post claims that the raid is related to an investigation into sex workers. Klovechok spent about $14 million on the gubernatorial race before endorsing Swalwell . However, he kicked the former congressman out of the house after sexual assault allegations against Swalwell became public.
I was shocked. Just shocked. I would never support him. Erica who? Is that clear? Don't betray trust. You betrayed trust, you understand? You no longer exist in my life. Klovechok, who was not at home this morning, also had his own problems with the law. In May, police arrested him for trying to prevent witnesses from testifying against his then- fiancée, Adva Lavi, a 29-year-old former Penthouse model who herself has a long list of arrests for seeking out wealthy older men in bars and online, then stealing their personal information, jewelry and cash.
Klovechok and Lavi stated that they did not admit guilt. She remains in custody after her bail was revoked due to the removal of her electronic bracelet. Swalwell has left Congress but remains under federal investigation, Liz, for using his position to sexually assault and intimidate women— charges he denies.
We'll get back to you. Thank you very much, William La Genesse. Let's ask veteran FBI Special Agent Nicole Parker about the reaction to this raid and what's going on. Everyone listens to Nicole when she speaks. Nicole, what do you think about this report? It is known that the FBI already searched Swalwell's home in Washington in August and seized electronic devices at San Francisco International Airport.
How bad are things right now for Eric Swalwell? Look, any FBI visit to your house at dawn is a bad sign for you. Um, look, this is a donor . He spent a lot of time at his house, and as we saw in that story you just showed, he completely distances himself from Swalwell. But in the FBI and in other investigations, this is how it works: you start an investigation, and when you start processing the evidence, they initially seized a lot of evidence.
They study them and then they get new warrants to execute, well, you know, there's good reason for new warrants, and by all accounts , that's how it all plays out. So, this is an ongoing investigation. Not much information is being released at this point, but, you know, this is not the best day for Swalwell or for his former associate , who, by all accounts , is completely distancing himself from this investigation.
Yes, and, you know, Nancy Pelosi was Eric Swalwell's mentor. He was the main "attack dog" in the Trump- Russia case. He was very vocal about this, and behind the scenes, these stories were already brewing. You know, the Trump administration also declassified documents where Swalwell admitted to FBI agents that he had intimate relationships with suspected Chinese spy Christine Fanfan several times.
So what do you think when you see a politician so vehemently attacking the other side, and then this bad news comes out that points to who they might really be? You know, Liz, I've seen it over and over again. This seems to be becoming a pattern, and I've seen it especially often among Democrats. What they accuse others of ultimately turns out to be what they themselves did.
And, of course, these are all just accusations. Swalwell has not yet been charged with any official offenses. He is being investigated by the FBI. He is also being tested in Los Angeles. But to me, it seems very ironic, but let's let the facts and evidence speak for themselves. Right. Innocent until proven guilty.
You see, what he said in Congress was tantamount to a verdict, given the way he behaved. Nicole Parker, thank you very much. Don't forget to like and subscribe to Fox Business for the latest news on YouTube. And you can watch full episodes of the show now on Fox.
