music for the time being. Nvidia is truly a generational tale because you know how many $3 trillion businesses have truly doubled. Nvidia is obviously significant, but it's significant because it's among the most significant methods to learn about AI. As many people discuss, I believe the AI story is still in its early stages.
It is revolutionary in terms of productivity and several use cases are emerging. As a result, even though it may seem like a one stock market, you should be aware that several stocks have increased by more than 20% so far this year. And I believe that the market's breadth will likely grow. Therefore, the second half offers a lot of prospects for investors.
Since Nvidia's stock has been the benchmark for the AI boom in recent years, I feel as though I'm undervaluing it because of the genuinely remarkable success. When you consider the value created by this name over the past two years just in real money, it's unprecedented how quickly it went from being a very large corporation with a market capitalization of several hundred billion dollars to over $3 trillion.
Indeed, it is and the momentum it has seemed to be holding at least as of the first trading day of 2025. Despite the erratic activity in the overall market, investors are flocking back to the well-liked Nvidia, the tried and true there. Therefore, despite the back and forth between bulls and bears, the share price has been stable.
And to answer your question, let's just look at Nvidia's stock last year. It jumped more than 170%, making it one of the top three companies in terms of gains for the year. Their most recent quarter's revenue exceeded $ 35 billion, demonstrating their continued superior performance. Then there was jockeying which rose to become the most valuable firm in the world.
After it replaced Apple, there has been a lot of back and forth over who is in the lead. However, that was only in June. It took it back or rather it took it back in June and then again in 2024. Thus, it continues to gain pace and from what I can see, it continues to have a first mover advantage in terms of the kinds of chips it manufactures.
These chips are what these big businesses uh depend on. Additionally, despite all of the discussion about AMD and its catchup last year hasn't caught up yet. There are competitors of course and AMD and Intel both want to catch up, but they have other issues to attend to first. AMD may be close, but if you're looking for chips that are less demanding than say Blackwell or its predecessor Hopper, you know, some firms are beginning to look at the Broadcoms of the world and we saw that reflected in its share price.
However, Nvidia is still anticipated to be strong this year and clearly has that significant first mover advantage. Alex, indeed it appears that there is a possibility that this could develop into something even more significant when things become outdated so rapidly, a phenomenon known as the technology race.
They will need to replace and grow and expand and expand. But should these businesses that are investing so much money give up on these projects or items if they eventually don't get their money back? We'll take them at their word since I know they have stated they won't do that. However, considering how much money is being spent on this, you would expect that eventually they would want to see actual tangible dollars and cents in return.
However, Nvidia is still in a good position to profit at the proper moment. I believe that this puts what I was trying to say into perspective. And it's not just about the past 2 years for the sole reason that he deserves credit. This was an expose by John Irkman. Man, I'm not sure if you noticed, but this list of names indicates the worth of $1,000 invested 10 years ago.
Nvidia is at the top, of course, at $272,000 and change. In 10 years, the stock increased more than 270 times. And we're not referring to some new microcat firm. We are discussing one of the world's largest corporations. In all honesty, it is unprecedented. It's true. And if you consider the company's beginnings and the concept behind it, making these GPUs primarily to supply the power required for gaming, it has now evolved into what is required for the race to dominate AI with the US naturally hoping to maintain its leading position and Nvidia being able to hold the top spot.
They're supposed to keep stoking that, you know, this year. Will they retain the crown? That is still up in the air. In my opinion, there's a good likelihood that they will remain in the forefront of that. However, you make a valid point when you mention other changes we've witnessed, such as Nvidia's strength or growth, which even knocked Intel off the DAO.
That speaks something, especially considering how old the firm is and how powerful it was forly. Here, we will take a look at the future and discuss what 2025 might bring in more detail. However, I have another item of information to share with you since my career really took off in 2015. There was some market volatility from 2015 to 2016.
Nevertheless, I recall thinking when I arrived in 2016 that, oh, this Nvidia stock is, you know, pretty expensive relative to where it's been, and a sell-off did occur in the first quarter. It sold off by almost 25%. Do you know the current split adjusted price for that? From around 80 cents to 60 cents, it's sold off.
The amount of progress this stock has made in such a short period of time is unbelievable. Video games, cryptocurrency, and now most significant of all, the AI surge. Investors have been pleasantly surprised. And the year is off to a great start as well, up 1% even if the market is currently hitting new lows.
I am certain that there are innumerable investment notes here. And I am certain that there was this one as well. What do you think of that? Yes, I am aware of a report that appeared in the Financial Times. Ah, stating that Nvidia invested a billion dollars in AI companies in 2024 spanning 50 startups and multiple corporate deals.
This is more than the previous year when they spent $872 million across fewer than 40 startups and deals, etc. For that reason, it demonstrates that they have enough money in their war chest to make investments based on their demand and growth. Yes, they are now a player. We've seen businesses like Alphabet through its other bets category as well as firms like Apple and Microsoft.
They don't necessarily need to come up with the concepts anymore. They're one of the companies that has the money to accomplish something like this. They may simply purchase the startups that are making these of various innovations and do it early enough to benefit from them later on. The rich get richer is a common narrative.
However, Nvidia entered this group of businesses. That specific statistic you just mentioned in my opinion emphasizes the fact that it is a true player at the table. Indeed. But even if you consider the beginnings of the company and Jensen Wong's tenure at the top of Nvidia's leadership, it appears that he would still have a special place in his heart for investing in the next big thing, the next Nvidia.
He founded the company at a Denny's. Thus, it makes sense for there to be investment in startups and for that investment to grow. What will be the upcoming origin story? No, I believe it to be a really good point. I believe you see this similarly with like Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk. You can go on.
At this point, the quality of life of any of these prominent CEOs is not significantly impacted by little gains or declines in their wealth. I'm not sure if there is a significant difference between 10 billion and 15 billion. However, they do want to have an impact on the world and whatever they believe will happen, whether it's autonomous driving and electric vehicles for Elon Musk or the AI projects being worked on by Nvidia or the space race we're witnessing from some of these various billionaires.
They all leave their mark and I believe that's where they get their motivation at this point. It has nothing to do with
