since Kevin Worsh hiked um not the stock market had has had a face ripper rally and then crypto has gone you know parabolic I think it tells us a couple things number one because of the headlines we're probably in a crypto bull market but number two I would just say for those who thinks a Fed hike was appropriate the stock market's reaction tells us the Fed is already reached maximum pain and they're probably going to walk back that hike so in my opinion I actually think the next move is the Fed to be on neutral and then inflation is pro in our view set to fall pretty sharply which has basically been our base case and so now we're going from max pain from the Fed to like a Fed that moves back towards neutral to dovish and that's really bullish for for equities and crypto.
After months of uncertainty, Bitcoin and the rest of the crypto space are once again showing the kind of strength that can completely change investor expectations. Bitine chairman Tom Lee believes the bottom is already behind us. the new bull market is confirmed and the cycle ahead could ultimately become much larger and longerlasting than the cycles investors have become accustomed to.
His framework points toward a market where Bitcoin could push toward $150,000 while Ethereum could eventually make a much more dramatic move as capital institutions and entirely new financial applications begin flowing into blockchain infrastructure. Lee is so confident because the catalysts driving this cycle are fundamentally different from what powered previous crypto booms.
Earlier cycles had their ICOs, NFTts, memecoins, and other powerful but relatively narrow narratives. This time, the opportunity is expanding far beyond cryptonative speculation. Wall Street is moving toward tokenized assets. Stable coins are becoming increasingly relevant to the financial system. Institutions are looking at blockchain infrastructure as a way to create new markets and artificial intelligence is introducing another enormous demand driver through autonomous agents and machine to-achine transactions.
Lee argues that when these forces operate simultaneously, the addressable market for crypto becomes dramatically larger than it was during the last cycle. In this video, we're going to break down exactly why Tom Lee believes this cryptobull market is different. how Ethereum could become a critical piece of the emerging digital financial system and why Lee believes the Federal Reserve could soon move from being a source of pain for markets to becoming another major catalyst for crypto.
But before we get into it, make sure you market breakdown. Now, let's get into Tom Lee's analysis. I think that the crypto bull market which is starting you know we believe it's been already confirmed and it's also evident by the stock price gains of crypto related stocks because there by a country mau the best performing assets so far in the third quarter I think that there is a much larger cohort of new investors that are going to come to crypto and I think that's what differentiates it you know the 2016 to 2017 cycle or the covid cycle that ended in 2021 and then last year's mini cycle those did have their specific catalyst ICOs and then it was NFTTS and memecoins and then most recently stable coins.
Um but those were a narrow set of actual use cases and and mainly basically crypto people coming back after having lost money. I think in this bare market not as much money was lost. There was a lot of leverage wiped out, but with tokenization coming in a very large way and then proc crypto regulatory backdrop and then of course government support at a time when I think AI and like agent systems and and a lot of applications being built around crypto.
I think it's a a much larger universe of people that are going to get involved. And I think when we look at the price charts, I think it reflects it. you know, there's been a really big price consolidation in some cases like 5 years of price consolidation. So, I think when we have this bull market, it's going to be not only a decisive breakout, but I think the ultimate length and upside is much greater than past cycles.
When it comes to Wall Street, Wall Street is embracing technology. uh they've embraced stable coins and but it's not just Wall Street you know it's basically uh the current administration you know the idea that stable coins actually deliver positive benefits for not only the dollar but also to the treasury markets and a lot of financial firms of course see the benefits of when you digitize the dollars it it really unlocks new markets and now it's extending to financial services companies companies see a lot of opportunity to make money by tokenizing other assets.
I mean that's really the key because the only reason uh enterprises will adopt and deploy blockchains and crypto is if it really is a 10x improvement either on the operational side or their ability to generate revenues and fees and deliver a better customer experience. And actually that's what's kind of exciting is like that's actually now very tangible.
And you know, Robin Hood, I think, was really the leading edge of this and they've they've demonstrated that there is a use case and people really do want to uh have not only access to tokenized stocks, but also like you know use the Robin Hood chain. Mhm. But I think it's it's becoming much broader than that.
And I think part of it is the news cycle because over, you know, since the Iran war started, for instance, people really care about the price of oil and oil prices normally sort of stopped being quoted on at Friday afternoons and now you can see price of oil on the perpetual markets. Um, and that's a crypto innovation.
So to me, I think that there is a going to be a very very large amount of money and and deployment and resource support for uh crypto. And on top of that, of course, as you know, like in early December, the exchanges are moving to to almost 24/7 trading anyways. And so I think we're moving into a world where the the typical investor is basically going to view markets trading live all the time and a lot of access to different markets.
I think there's there's multiple paths to like why the crypto market is going to have a bull market. You know, I mean, I think the thing that the listener should appreciate is nobody really knows what path markets will take, but it's best to have an idea of like the possibilities. For instance, if someone said, Tom, you know, 2 years ago, why would the S&P go up?
Okay, so let's say end of 2024. Uh I could have listed a bunch of things like hey it could be AI it could be the Fed you know it could be onshoring and uh but I didn't assign probabilities to any of those and I didn't say you had to choose a singular path and then at the end of the day the market went up a lot and um I think that's true for Ethereum that for Ethereum you know what will make not only Ethereum useful but also the token the you know the ETH token valuable ETHcoin and um I think there's just m there's multiple paths because number one like tokenization is is both a big opportunity because just the large size but it's also a large opportunity because of the sheer innovation it could deliver like I think people are thinking of tokenization and it's fine as so as simply hey we can trade the S&P 500 and those constituents 247 I think that is actually quite useful um because it provide it could become additional collateral.
Mhm. But uh but on top of that because uh tokenization does offer you know legal rights to a series of pledged assets you can actually do a lot of innovation about what an equity you know what S&P equity is. You know you can create derivatives and structures that don't require shareholder votes. And so I think there's a big unlock there.
But when I look at the payment stacks today and you know what's involved in any financial transaction and how many intermediaries you know for instance the credit card transaction goes through like seven discrete regulatory functions you know from like the card platform to the to the processor and the validator validator and the merchant and the point of sale terminal etc.
But all of that could actually be run on a single blockchain as a smart contract. And so that's a huge innovation because it changes speed and this the size of the payments and of course lower cost for the user. So I mean I guess the answer is every I think the financial industry is going to be ultimately a big user of blockchains not only because customers want it but also because they can create new products but also to make the financial industry more secure.
But all three of those might happen at different speeds or they might all happen at once because at the end of the day uh change doesn't happen overnight. Tom Lee is describing an expansion of the entire market. In his view, the previous cycles were driven by relatively narrow catalysts that brought existing crypto participants back into the market.
This time, however, tokenization, regulatory clarity, institutional adoption, and the rise of AIdriven applications could pull in an entirely different population of users and investors. And once you add AI agents to that equation, the potential market becomes even more difficult to quantify. Human beings may sleep, businesses may close, and traditional markets may have operating hours.
But autonomous software can theoretically operate continuously. An AI agent capable of purchasing services, moving stable coins, managing assets, or interacting with financial applications would need infrastructure capable of supporting those transactions at machine speed. Let's get back to the interview as Lee walks us through his super bullish short and long-term predictions for Ethereum.
It was maybe 60,000 that we were talking about in terms of Tom Lee's price target for ETH last year. What is it now when you kind of look at everything we just discussed and really extrapolating in the shorter term maybe to where you think we can get to? I think last year if if I mentioned ETH at 60, I don't think it was a 12-month price target.
Yes, it was not. Yeah. And uh but you know I think that I think ETH has been consolidating I mean for 5 years right it's been rangebound and uh now when I look forward I I think the opportunity set is much stronger I mean there is a much great you know there's still very large dedicated community to supporting Ethereum but then the opportunity set is much greater and I think you know at least we're seeing when financial institutions are looking at blockchains and L1s to to really work on or even understand.
I think that Ethereum really stands out. I mean, it's zero downtime, you know, uh widely widely widely used um highly secure and um so I I think that if we do a measured move, you know, like how did Ethereum perform? The last major breakout was uh you know after the 2018 bare market and then the breakout into 2021 and that was a 17x move for Ethereum you know so could Ethereum 10x above 10 to 12x above its prior highs of 5,000 I think that's very possible and um you know and then that would take us to to 60,000 again.
So, I I think that like that's still a reasonable view of where Ethereum could be in a couple years. And but in the near term, you know, do I think the old highs are going to represent any resistance? I mean, in sort of psychological terms, yeah, but like do I think Ethereum could reach all-time highs this year?
Uh, absolutely. So, I I think 3,000, you know, in the next in the near term makes a lot of sense and then well above 5,000 before I earned, I think, makes a lot of sense. and and of course I think this is going to be a pretty durable crypto bull market and so I I think you know we're early and I think crypto could run a lot and maybe one of the best sort of ways to calibrate that for me is you know this is not the this this let's say is akin to you know 2019 or whatever or 2023 and I'd say compared to those two periods you know crypto has already made a big move you know Ethereum from, you know, 1,500 to 2,800.
I think it's been met with almost complete silence. And in fact, I'm hearing more about large players having substantial losses because they were bearish on this move. So, I I think it's the complete opposite because I think many people were figuring final lows would be made in early October because that would align with the crypto for your winter, you know, the bull market for your cycle.
I'll actually start with um Kevin Worsh and the hike because that's probably the most important thing, right? that prior to last week if someone said the Fed's going to hike and maybe in a surprise way because the meeting before they were leaning towards cutting. So in like one month they went from like you know neutral to leaning to cut to like suddenly hiking.
That's got to be negative for stocks. Um and actually if stocks if they were hiking because it was the appropriate thing to do because the economy was overheated or because inflation was really bad then the stock market should be going down a lot and crypto probably would be getting would move in the same direction.
Crypto should not be rising. Yeah. But since Kevin Worsh hiked, um, not the stock market had has had a face ripper rally and then crypto has gone, you know, parabolic. Uh, I think it tells us a couple things. Number one, because of the headlines, we're probably in a crypto bull market. But number two, I would just say for those who thinks a Fed hike was appropriate, the stock market's reaction tells us the Fed is already reached maximum pain and they're probably going to walk back that hike.
So, in my opinion, I actually think the next move is the Fed to be on neutral and then inflation is pro in our view set to fall pretty sharply, which has basically been our base case. And so now we're going from max pain from the Fed to like a Fed that moves back towards neutral to doubbish. And that's really bullish for for equities and crypto.
If policymakers tighten financial conditions aggressively because inflation or economic overheating requires it, investors would normally expect pressure across risk assets. Instead, stocks rallied and crypto accelerated. Tom Lee's interpretation is that markets may already have absorbed an enormous amount of monetary policy pain, creating the possibility that the next phase could involve the Fed moving back toward neutral rather than continuing to tighten.
If inflation falls as Lee expects, that could completely change the backdrop for risk assets. Instead of investors preparing for progressively tighter conditions, the market could begin pricing a transition toward easier policy. And for crypto, that would arrive at precisely the moment when tokenization, institutional adoption, and AI related applications are expanding the fundamental narrative around blockchain technology.
That combination is what makes Lee's outlook so aggressive. He isn't relying on a single catalyst. He is effectively describing several different forces converging at once. a potential shift in monetary policy, growing institutional participation, the digitization of financial assets, stable coin adoption, 247 markets, and the emergence of AI agents that could require programmable financial infrastructure.
If even a portion of those trends accelerate simultaneously, the market Lee is describing could look very different from the crypto market investors remember from 2021. So, the question now isn't simply whether Bitcoin can continue rallying or whether Ethereum can reclaim its previous highs. The much bigger question is whether the market is finally beginning to price in the institutional, technological, and monetary forces that Lee believes are converging around crypto.
Because if tokenization really scales, if AI agents begin transacting economically, if financial institutions continue moving on to blockchain rails, and if monetary conditions become more supportive, the current rally could eventually look less like the climax of a cycle and more like the beginning of one.
That's exactly why Tom Lee remains so bullish. In his view, the opportunity ahead isn't defined by another short-lived crypto narrative. It is defined by an expanding financial system in which billions of dollars of assets, transactions, and eventually autonomous economic activity could move through blockchain networks.
Whether the market reaches every one of his targets remains uncertain, but the structural changes he is pointing toward are already becoming visible, and that is what makes this cycle worth watching.
