Alright, friends. I am now accompanied by Alice Kenny, a retired English and French teacher from Brooklyn. Alice. So, Alice, I read in my notes that you weren't actually on the market, although you started listening to expert advice, and that perhaps piqued your interest a little. It piqued my interest.
I tried a couple of things. I had no idea what I was doing. And, of course, they didn't work. Sure, sure. So when I heard about his book, advertising it on the radio, I ordered it. I did it and... It's going well. This is from last year. Is this from last year? Yes. 39% compared to Wall Street's 18%, so it's doing quite well.
Yes. I find it interesting that you said one of the keys for you is that you learned to minimize losses. I am really working on that, yes. Yes. I mean, that's a tricky point. It's a difficult point. That's why top experts always underperform compared to the market. Ego, pride, and ego are difficult .
I'm telling you. Yes, minimizing losses is, I mean, you have losses. It has winners and losers. It's about letting the winners run and getting rid of the losses. I like their approach. Well, "I like" is the wrong word. So, you found these names, bought them, and then increased your investment in them.
Check this out, folks. Advanced Micro, 16 months, added twice, an increase of 273%. This is absolutely phenomenal. What gave you the confidence to say "I'm going to add to this a couple of times"? I was simply in this for the long haul. These are companies that I looked for more to buy and hold. Correct.
And that's what I'm doing. Correct. And then, you don't look at these market shocks. You shouldn't listen to many of the experts. Because they spend all day scaring people. "Get out now." "It's all over now," you know? That's all. Micron was one that at a certain point I said, well, I know I'm supposed to withdraw some money from time to time and take profits, so I did that last February, but I left some in.
And when I saw how much it had grown, I thought, "Oh my God, that would have been 800 percent." 800%, but you... But I, I went back in. Sure, sure, sure. And that's what it's all about, listen, nobody's perfect at this and you're always going to doubt yourself, but you ca n't let yourself be tormented by losses or by quitting early ; Anything that torments you will be a big mistake.
I mean, look, this stock has gone up a lot. All these names are coming back. Palantir, but I insist, you've maintained them for 25 months, 23 months, three and a half years, and Nvidia has gone through ups and downs and has had many critics. Palantir has had many critics. Wall Street hated Palantir at first.
I know. You've done exceptionally well, and this is the approach you're going to continue using. Yes. I heard Alex Karp on a show a while back and I was like, it was... Yeah. $10 a share at the time and I just started and said, I'm going to follow this guy. You just said something very important. It's about management.
Vision and management. There are many people who question those who build multi- billion dollar companies. Listen to the people who built these companies. Alex Karp, I know him. It's incredibly amazing, absolutely amazing. If you're going to invest in someone, he's someone to invest in. Let's talk about how you're using your windfall .
You're using them for philanthropy. A lot. Yes, that's one thing. My husband is a marine. He was in the Marines during Vietnam and we travel every year to his Cason veterans' reunion and we drive there. We have dogs . He has a service dog from America's VetDogs and we travel by car. And when I was teaching, I thought: I want to travel around this country.
I mean, I studied in France. I returned and taught French, but I wanted to travel around this country. It's a great country. It 's incredible. America's Vet Dogs, Team Fox, Tunnel to Towers is just... phenomenal. Everything is phenomenal. Well, keep it up. You are an inspiration to many people. Thank you.
And by the way, thank you for being a teacher. You are a great teacher in this country. Yes. And of course. I think it's financial education. Financial education. He needs to start...I'm listening to Kevin's story. Yes. Yes. I think it should be a national platform. I don't know why we've waited so long.
Thank you very much, Alice. Very well thank you. Alice, be sure to like and subscribe to Fox Business's latest news on YouTube. And you can stream full programs now on Fox Weather.
