I'll keep this short and sweet as opposed to long and savory, I guess. Awkward pause. Confirmed. Elon Musk bought over 2.5 million Tesla shares on Friday, dropping over a billion bucks on Tesla stock. I wonder why he would do that. Maybe he had a few spare cents and thought it might be a worthwhile investment over the long term.
I wonder if he knows anything. Maybe some inside information that he might have acted upon, such as being the guy running all the projects at the very company he just bought over a billion bucks of stock in. Hm. And as I'm recording this, Tesla's stock pre-market just over $420 US per share, up more than 6%.
Now, obviously, that doesn't mean it stays this way, but perhaps a valuable lesson in why trying to time the market, while it might work out a few times in principle, may not always be the best idea. if you have bought a long-term valuation model and if you believe a company is going to be worth meaningfully more than it is today at a point in the future.
In other words, if you'll look back after the stocks ripped higher, which historically Tesla does tend to do that after periods of extreme volatility, if you would look back, man, I really wish instead of trying to time the market, I just bought and hold, you know. But hey, I'm just some idiot on the internet.
Don't listen to what I got to say. While we're speaking of idiots on the internet with three first names, here's some idiot on the internet with three first names who a while ago wrote, "My brain is too small to time the market, but my brain is big enough to know that it is too small to time the market." Jeez, I wonder what he meant by that.
Like, here's the same guy. Almost like this guy just repeats himself all the time. How unoriginal. Who also said in a different post, "My brain is too small to time the market, so I don't try." And with this, he posted the 154 different times he had purchased Tesla stock beginning all the way back in 2016 and the corresponding purchase price seeming to suggest over time that he was buying consistently.
And there were periods where Tesla stock ripped higher inexplicably without any warning, then remained flattish for a while and ripped higher and stabilized, then ripped higher, then stabilized, crashed, ripped higher, and on and on and on. In fact, this same guy reposted that post with an update. Doubling, tripling, quadrupling down once again saying update.
My brain is still too small to time the market, so I don't try. For those of you keeping score at home, by the way, we're now up to 163 or 164 different times I've purchased Tesla stock. No attempts were made to time the market. If I had cash, bought Tesla. Simple as that. While looking at one of these posts, I noticed that he wrote, "See you in 2042." on a post in 2024.
Why would he say that? That's a long time. Does he have a multi-deade investment horizon? Would that explain why he doesn't give a flying [ __ ] about trying to time the market cuz he's looking to 2042 thinking, does it make sense now? Is it reasonable now? Then why would I try and time the market when it looks like a deal now over the long term?
Of course, I don't know cuz I'm not this guy. But if I was that guy, I wonder if that was what he was thinking at the time that he posted this. He also reposted this comment about his brain being too small to time the market, but acknowledging that and wrote, "Tesla's up 34% since I posted this. I am not smart.
I am just not dumb. Read that again. He continues, "As I said, my brain is too small to tie in the market, so I don't try. I believe long-term Tesla will be worth way more than it is today, so I buy when I have money. Not when I think I can tighten the market." Damn, this [ __ ] really, really driving the point home repeatedly over the last few years.
His brain's too small to tie in the market. He doesn't try. He looks at Tesla over the long term. Seems like a deal today, so he just buys. I wonder why he continues to say the same [ __ ] Maybe he believes what he's saying. Maybe it stays like today that he's thinking about when he makes these posts.
Now, if you're still watching and you're not completely bored out of your [ __ ] brain, I just want to make this video to point out Tesla stock surge. Don bought some. And that it's al probably going to create a little bit of temporary feedback. Don's buying or maybe I'll buy the hedge funds and the algorithms.
We'll see what happens today. Want to get this video out. But, uh, if you're still here once again, yet another post from the same guy saying the same [ __ ] As they say, repetition is the mother of skill. He says, "My brain, small brain in fact, keeps buying Tesla every time I have money." Current market cap when he posted this was 525 billion.
It continues. When I began buying in 2016, it was because of EVs and energy. Then along came Autonomy. Then along came Optimus. Long-term potential keeps growing. So I keep buying and my time horizon keeps expanding. I would like future Steven to check back in on present Steven's decisions in 5, 10, 20, 30, and 50 years.
Well, future Steven here, although I'm not even one and a half years into the future, give or take. I know. So far would say, "Yeah, thanks, bro. Um, glad you were loading up then." Wait, same guy, same topic. Are we really doing this? Are you still here? Well, yeah, why not? Small brains think they can time the market.
Large brains, no, they can't time the market, so they don't even try. And tiny brains will reply in the comments explaining how they time the market, failing to understand that not every round of Russian roulette is fatal. So, recap. on Friday. It's now been disclosed. As is required, Elon buys 2,568,372 shares of Tesla stock.
As soon writes, always a good sign when CEO/T the leader of the company buys stock on the open market. Maybe crazy theory, I know, but maybe Elon Musk actually does believe what he's saying about Tesla's progress, especially as it relates to autonomy. And given we've now seen the 2025 CEO Performance Award proposal, Elon knows the goals he'll be aiming for and what's required.
Perhaps he thinks, "Holy [ __ ] dude. Tesla looks like a decent deal today. I might buy some." Haters, skeptics, doubters, and market timers are in shambles. Who could have seen that coming? As they say, you [ __ ] around, you find out. Want more content? Early access, bunch of perks. Click the links in the pin comment.
