A middle-class boy somehow gets a job in an investment company. But then, due to a mistake, the company loses $100 million, due to which he is fired from the company. After that, that boy created a company that today manages $10 trillion. I am studying in front of the heads of a company that manages $ 10.6 trillion, which is almost three times the GDP of India.

I am talking about Larry Fink and his company BlackRock. So, without wasting time, let's get into the inspiring journey of Larry Fink. Larry Fink was born on November 2, 1952, in a middle-class family in California. Larry's father ran a grocery store and his mother was an English professor. Meaning, there wasn't much money in Larry's house, but he learned the value of education and hard work from childhood.

Larry never imagined that one day his name would be included in the list of the world's top CEOs. As a child, Larry dreamed of becoming a politician. He majored in Political Science from the University of California, but after college, he dropped out. During his time there, he shifted his interest from politics to finance.

This was a decision that transformed his entire career. After college, Larry earned an MBA and began his career in 1976 at First Boston, one of the top investment banks at the time. At Boston, he learned some revolutionary things and developed the idea of mortgage-bagged securities. This product meant bundling home loans and selling them in the market.

It was a new approach that created new opportunities for investors. Larry led the company to a profit of over $1 billion. At Boston, Larry quickly made a name for himself. His risk- taking decisions quickly elevated him to the ranks of top executives. But this risk could sometimes prove costly, as it would later prove.

In 1986, Larry faced the biggest failure of his career. He made a mistake in an interest rate prediction, resulting in a loss of $100 million for the company. $100 million was a huge sum at the time, and this one mistake brought Larry to ruin. Everyone in the company questioned Larry about these losses, asking, "How could you make such a huge mistake?" Larry had generated a profit of $1 billion for the company, but no one cared.

Larry was forced to leave the company, and no one wanted to hire him. Larry didn't let this setback become his failure; instead, he made it his biggest lesson. He recognized that understanding and managing reallocations is crucial in the financial industry, and this lesson became a turning point in his life.

In 1988, Fink and some friends formed a small firm, BlackRock. Today, it is the world's largest asset management firm. However, the beginnings were small, but one thing was clear: Larry's vision: BlackRock's focus was on risk management. Larry's vision was n't just about how to make clients profits, but also about how to protect their assets while taking into account the risks.

The decision to place risk management at the center of financial planning set him apart from other firms. At that time, no other firm in the market was operating with such a focus, and investors gradually began to trust BlackRock. Between 1990 and 2000, Larry made some significant decisions that took BlackRock to the global level.

In 1995, he merged with PNC Financial Services, providing his firm with resources for growth. Larry then took another major step in 2006 when he acquired Mary Lynch Investment Management. Then, in 2009, he acquired Barclays Global Investors, bringing with him IIS, the world's leading provider of exchange-traded credit funds ( ETFs).

This acquisition made BlackRock the world's largest asset manager. Larry's focus was always on strategic growth, and so he made acquisitions his path. He understood the market potential of ETFs and IIS. It gave him global dominance. Every successful person's journey faces some challenges, and even Larry Fink could not escape them.

BlackRock received a lot of criticism for investing in fossil fuel companies. It is the biggest investor in the world, in rain forest destruction. It is the biggest investor in coal plants in the developing world, and it is one of the largest investors in oil and gas. In 2020, Larry Fink made a game-changing announcement in his annual letter.

This morning, the company CEO Larry Fink's annual letter is out and the world's largest asset manager is now announcing that the firm will make investment decisions with environmental sustainability at its core. BlackRock decided to shift its investments in a sustainable direction. It stopped investing in companies that were not able to meet sustainability standards.

This decision was a major shift for the financial world. This step by a trillion-dollar firm like BlackRock is a significant step in the world. This was a strong signal for investors across the globe. Today, BlackRock is a global powerhouse that manages assets worth over $10 trillion. Larry Fink's leadership brought BlackRock to this position.

His biggest contribution is Aladdin, a management software that helps companies around the world manage their assets. Larry Fink's legacy is not just BlackRock, but his risk management philosophy, which has redefined today's financial world. His focus has always been on long-term investing, and today, sustainable investing has also become a core part of it.

Friends, Larry Fink's journey teaches us that everyone makes mistakes in life, but only those who learn from them and redefine their future achieve true success. A middle-class boy who turned his mistakes into his mentor is today one of the world's most influential financial leaders. How did you like today's video?
