Tesla was able to complete a 2,700 mile coast to coast trip without intervention. Also, Nvidia might be Tesla's real competitor. So, let's talk about what's going on with Nvidia and then we'll talk about what this means for Tesla. Now, Jensen Hang was at the Las Vegas CS Consumer Electronic Show last week and we'll talk about what he said.

Nvidia has unveiled a new tech platform for self-driving cars as the world's leading chipmaker seeks more physical products to embed AI into. Speaking at the annual CES technology conference in Las Vegas, Jansen Huang said the system called Alpomeo would bring a reasoning to autonomous vehicles. And this is what we know so far.

Jensen said that it would allow cars to think through rare scenarios, drive safely in complex environments, and explain their driving decisions. He said Nvidia was working with Mercedes-Benz to produce a driverless car powered by the tech, which would be released in the US in the coming months before being rolled out in Europe and Asia.

I'm guessing different uh regulations. However, Nvidia chips have helped power the AI revolution. Though so far, attention has mostly been focused on the software it powers such as Chad GPT. But leading tech firms now increasingly looking for hardware, meaning physical products such as cars that AI could be used in.

Wearing his trademark black leather jacket, Jensen told an audience of hundreds that the project has taught Nvidia an enormous amount about how to help partners build robotic systems. Now, the Jad GPT moment for physical AI is almost here, said Jensen Huang. NVIDIA's pivot towards AI at scale and AI systems as differentiators will help keep it way ahead of the rival, said Pao Pescator, analyst at PB Foresight from Las Vegas.

Alpameo represents a profound shift for Nvidia, moving from being primarily a compute to a platform provider for physical AI ecosystems. And this might sound really familiar now. It featured a video demonstrating of an AI powered Mercedes-Benz driving through San Francisco while a passenger sat behind the steering wheel and kept their hands in their lap.

Jensen said it drives so naturally because it learns directly from human demonstrators but in every single scenario it tells you what it's going to do and it is reasons about what it's about to do. Now Alpomeo is an open-source AI model with the underlying code now available on machine learning platform the hugging phase where autonomous vehicle researchers can access it for free and retain the model.

Jensen said he told the audience, "Our vision is that someday every single car, every single truck will be autonomous. The project could pose a threat to companies like Elon Musk's Tesla, which offers driver assistance software called Autopilot. But then Elon Musk posted on X after the announcement.

Well, that's just exactly what Tesla is doing. What they will find out is that it's easy to get to the first 99% and then super hard to solve the long tail of the distribution. Like Tesla, Nvidia is also planning to launch a robo taxi service next year in collaboration with a partner, but has declined to name the partner or say where it will be.

Nvidia is the world's most valuable publicly traded company with a market cap of more than $4.5 trillion dollar at the time of this recording. And how is Tesla doing with their FSD? Now, let's see. This was the first time a Tesla vehicle drove from coast to coast without human intervention for 2,700 miles.

Here are recent Tesla full self-driving FSD new highlights. major milestones like a coast to coast trip. Tesla is approaching 7 billion miles driven with 2.5 billion in cities and the rollout of FSD14.2.2. Tesla's FSD is nearing 7 billion total miles driven with over 2.5 billion of those on city streets providing fast realorld data for improvements.

According to Yahoo Finance and the NASDAQ, the new software version FSD14.2.2 is rolling out and an even newer version 14.2.2.2 also 2025.45.7 appearing shortly after as covered by Tesla North and Tesla Oracle. Now, the updates include final control over the navigation pin and access to self-driving statistics in the control menu reported by Tesla North.

Recently, Tesla filed a patent for microscopic light trapping cones and ultra black coating for camera housing to reduce glare and improve vision by autoblock. Now Tesla continues to working with the government for approvals with FSD supervised already in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand.

According to Tesla's FSD safety page, however, while FSD V14 offers smoother lane changes and better performance in some areas, some users still find it makes odd maneuvers or removes desirable features. As discussed in a electric review, in a sense, Tesla's FST is rapidly evolving, hitting major operational milestones, but also facing scrutiny and continuous refinements as it moves towards its ultimate goal of full autonomy.

But it is remarkable that Tesla's full self-driving supervised fleet has reached 7 billion total miles driven per data published on its official FSD web page. Now the milestones underscore the enormous volume of real world data powering Tesla's recent and increasingly visible progress in FSD development.

Also Tesla owner and frequent FSD tester the whole Mars catalog also shared a screenshot showing that more than 2.5 billion of those miles were book accumulated in city streets. However, one of Tesla's key strength in autonomous driving is the sheer scale of its fleet and the number of vehicles continuously training FSD in real world conditions.

Now, nearly 7 billion miles of driving data enable Tesla to deploy updates that make its vehicle operate with the smoothness and judgment of seasoned human drivers even when driving autonomously. And let's note that recently Tesla launched Europe's first public shuttle service using FSD supervised in the rural Eiffel K Pitborg Prime region of Germany.

It highlights how the technology can improve mobility and independence in areas of limited transportation options. After a long and frustrating transitional period, Tesla unsupervised FSD is becoming a reality. So, what about Whimo? Alphabet's Google Whimo service is off to a wide lead in a battle of robo taxi supremacy.

Earlier this week, Whimo announced that is far ahead of its robo taxi competition and that the company has completed over 14 million paid robo taxi trips in 2025 and that it is on pace to reach the 1 million rates per week milestone by the end of 2026. Nevertheless, with Waymore currently operating in only five major cities, the battle for robo taxi supremacy is still in its infancy.

Meanwhile, Tesla's robo taxi program has only deputed in two cities, Austin, Texas and San Francisco, California. Nevertheless, Tesla has two critical advantages that will allow it to catch up to and even surpass way more rapidly. It is scalability and costs. Now, why would that be? Whimo robo taxis rely on expensive LAR technology that can cost $10 to $12,000 per car.

Conversely, Tesla's robo taxi rely on camera and vision technology that cost $400 per vehicle. Until now, Tesla's robo taxi roadblock has been the long way to achieve full self-driving FSD and to deliver robo taxis without a safety rider. However, data sourced from the betting market cache suggests that the wait might be over.

Now, Tesla's CEO Elon Musk recently exhibited high confidence in the company's robo taxi future, posting on X that way more never really had a chance against Tesla. This will be obvious in hindsight. Meanwhile, in another interview, Elon Musk said that unsupervised is pretty much solved at this point.

Now I believe Nvidia is known for its fast developments and innovations but Tesla is still ahead of the game. Also in the end the winning team might be a variety of companies and maybe with more competition comes faster results. Now what do you think? Let me know in the comments. It'll be interesting to see what 2026 will bring us.

And if you would like to see what's up with the SpaceX IPO and how Tesla investors could benefit, you could watch this next. Also, tune in next week when we talk about Elon Musk, Tesla, and his other companies. Thank you so much for watching. My name is Claudia and goodbye.
