Warren Buffett is arguably the most famous investor in the world and his hedge fund Berkshire Hathaway is one of the largest with about 300 billion dollars of assets under management and while the stock market continues to crash with the NASDAQ down over 35 percent from its highs well Buffett has been spending billions of dollars on New Stock purchases so in today's video we're going to run through the five largest purchases that he went out and made this most recently reported quarter which by the way includes two brand new additions to his portfolio one of which by the way is a giant Semiconductor Company so let's run through each one I'll give you my quick opinion on them as well and for fun I'll even rank them from best to worst based on my own opinion it's going to be a fun one I hope you guys enjoy this let's go ahead and jump straight into it alright guys we're gonna count down here from smallest toe largest in the portfolio and coming in at stock number five is going to be a company called Louisiana Pacific ticker symbol lpx which was a brand new addition to the fund's portfolio which they purchased almost 300 million dollars of this latest quarter now if you've never heard of lpx this is a Construction Products company that primarily specializes in siding and wood panels that you would typically use for building houses or sheds or really any type of building but they do sell a number of other things too that's just kind of their biggest Revenue driver as with all construction related companies though their business can be a little cyclical and tends to go up or down depending on the current state of the economy and the overall macro environments for example 2019 was a very weak year for the macro economy hence why both sales and profits drop significantly but then they rebounded in 2020 because of all the lockdowns and people staying home and working on Home Improvement projects then it skyrocketed in 2021 because of all the stimulus and money printing from the FED that injected so much money into the economy making it easier to spend on such projects what proponents of all that Reckless money printing don't understand though is that it's now causing the economy to crash with record high inflation and Rising interest rates which is why lpx's sales are now expected to fall by negative 12 percent this year and then a massive crash of 22 percent next year as well to make you know things even worse and while this stock has at least come down a bit to reflect that poor performance losing about a quarter of its value this past year it is still way higher than their pre-pandemic levels which is probably being held up by Warren Buffett purchasing the stock leading to more investor confidence than it should probably have otherwise but I can tell you right now why Buffett made this purchase it it's just a typical low growth kind of boring type of company with a really cheap valuation that Buffett loves to park his money in as their business is not likely to ever go away while their valuation is dirt cheap at almost 70 percent cheaper than the sector with a tiny tiny little PE ratio of less than five and a very safe dividend payout ratio of less than seven percent however the dividend yield itself is very small at just 1.5 percent which is really nothing compared to our current inflation rates and the business is too boring and too cyclical for me to invest my time and energy tracking it so I'm actually going to rank them pretty low here at number four for now and perhaps readjust it later when I see what else is on this list but it just kind of feels like a low number four ranking to me right off the bat all right guys moving on to stock number four though this is a stock that I've actually been tracking more closely in recent weeks myself because I think it's a very interesting play but that is Paramount's Global ticker symbol p-a-r-a formerly known as Viacom CBS and Warren actually first started buying the stock earlier this year excuse me and has slowly increased his position over time adding another 16 to it this latest quarter bringing the total stake in the company up to about 1.74 billion dollars and by the way if that average Buy price is correct then Buffett is currently down close to half of his entire value on the stock because it's been crashing a ton in recent months but with that crash might be coming some future turnaround potential as Paramount is currently restructuring their business to focus more heavily on video streaming through their new subscription service called Paramount Plus in fact when they first announced the service the stock had shot up to over a hundred dollars a share because of all the optimism and future potential of it but ever since the hype died down and the stock market began to crash the stock proceeded to lose more than 80 percent of its value from the top and is now down over 44 just in 2022 alone I do think the streaming service has some potential though as it already gained over 60 million subscribers making it the fifth largest player just behind Disney Netflix Amazon and Warner Brothers Discovery thanks to a strong lineup of movies and shows including Transformers Sonic Indiana Jones Halo SpongeBob Star Trek and much more contents from CBS Nickelodeon MTV and Comedy Central as well as their giant Blockbuster Movie Studios which even produce top gun Maverick which went on to become the fifth best-selling movie of all time meanwhile the video streaming Market is growing at a 20 rate each year so there is plenty of growth to be had still if they can execute but so far the business as a whole is still suffering heavy losses from their legacy cable TV channels that are causing their revenue growth to only be in the mid single digits while their profits are actually declining by about six percent on average that is however much better than the double digit rates they were dropping at in the five years prior and while the stock has been crashing hard it's at least left a dirt cheap valuation that is about 50 percent cheaper than the sector while the dividend has risen to probably the highest level that I've ever seen at almost a six percent yield for it I would actually be interested in buying this stock myself if I didn't already own Disney and Amazon who I think are both much better plays on the future of video streaming and really just much better stocks in general with a stronger overall business but I can understand why Buffett is taking a chance on this one for the low valuation and the large dividend and I certainly like it a lot more than lpx so I'll put them in the number three spot for now as I think it's pretty decent overall but definitely not without some risk all right guys that's going to bring us now to stock number three which was a brand new semiconductor stock that Buffett added to his portfolio this quarter and that is the chip manufacturing giant Taiwan semiconductor ticker symbol TSM which Buffett went out and purchased over four billion dollars worth of the stock now like I said this is a Taiwanese chip manufacturing Giant in fact this latest quarter they even beat out Samsung for the top spot as the largest chip supplier in the world who builds many of the chips that are designed by other giant companies like Nvidia AMD and even Apple although many times TSM actually designs a circuitry themselves thanks to the billions of dollars that they spend on research and development every single year but it's very impressive what they do and of course these chips will always be needed over the long term because of the rise of internet and computer usage the metaverse autonomous driving The Internet of Things things you know cloud computing artificial intelligence and many other growth drivers the list just goes on and on and because of that their business has actually been on fire in recent years putting up huge growth rates on both the top and bottom line with sales still climbing by another 30 percent plus this year before finally correcting next year to the low single digits in my opinion though that correction next year is not really a big deal since they've been putting up way too much growth prior to that and I really think that one or two years to cool off is more than reasonable after that you know amazing performance however the dip coupled with the deteriorating global economy has been enough to Spook investors into selling out of the stock causing it to lose almost half its value over the past year there's also a fear that the us is going to turn away from foreign ship makers in favor of domestic players which they are investing heavily into through the new chip act however what some may not be aware of is that TSM actually builds a manufacturing plant in Arizona back in 2021 and they're already building a second one out there as we speak with even plans of building a European plant out in Germany as well so TSM is really more Diversified than people might think and thanks to the stock crash their valuation is also close to 40 percent cheaper than the sector while the dividend has risen up to almost a two and a half percent yield long term I love the business and I think the valuation is pretty good for what you get in return so I'm ranking them at number two for now I actually used to own TSM stock myself and I may buy it again in the future since I think it's an all-around solid play on the semiconductor Market that's going to leave us now though with the final two stocks on the list and coming in at stock number two here that's going to be the oil and gas giant oxygen Dental petroleum ticker symbol oxy oxy I always just say oxy which Buffett has a long history of moving in and out of but more recently he's been buying the stock in each of the past three quarters adding another 35 million shares this last one bringing his total stake in the company up to almost 12 billion dollars this one to me though feels more like a short-term play that won't really perform as well over the very long term as the future of energy at least in my opinion will almost certainly be Renewables and oxy's volatile financials are a pretty good representation of that as they have a history of losing money like they did in 2019 and 2020 but also being able to take advantage of opportunistic growth in oil prices with a big Rebound in 2021 and another 40 Revenue Spike this past year before being expected to fall once again by negative eight percent next year I'm not saying that the need for oil and gas will disappear anytime soon in fact I actually think that their business will perform well enough for some time but considering how much the stock has already climbed with over a hundred and twenty percent Spike just in the past year alone I just feel that there are much better long-term stocks out there to invest in at much better prices especially considering the tiny dividend of less than one percent when most other oil and gas giants have much larger yields so I'll rank them last for now at number five which actually brings us now to the final stock of the list who by contrast pays a much more attractive dividend and that is another oil and gas giant here in Chevron ticker symbol CVX who Buffett has been only slightly increasing his position on in recent quarters but still making it the largest position held out of all these stocks at a whopping 24 billion dollars unfortunately I feel very similarly about Chevron as I do about oxy as their financials were also greatly struggling for years up until this past year where the Russia Ukraine conflict coupled with our own political policies in America have caused the price of oil and gas to Skyrocket sending Chevron sales and profits Rising once again with another 40 46 percent rise expected this year like oxy though this growth is not really expected to last longer term as their sales should be falling once again next year by around a 12 percent Decline and as much as I like the dividend of over three percent with a low pale ratio and over three decades of growth I just can't ignore the fact that the stock is currently trading right near an all-time high while the macro economy is a complete disaster in fact I think it's the only stock on the list that is actually trading more expensive than the sector if it wasn't for that I think I would actually like Chevron because they're even making some large investments into renewable energy that I think will help them transition their business a bit over the long term but given how low so many great stocks have crashed this past year it's just too hard for me to bet on an oil giant that trades at a record high so it's personally just not a really good fit for me but I still like them much more than oxy and I even like them more than lpx because of the better dividend and more interesting business as they invest more heavily into Renewables for added long-term growth potential so I think I'll rank them at number three and move a couple stocks up one spot to fit them in but there you have it guys my official ranking puts Taiwan semiconductor at number one that was an easy choice I think that's honestly one of the best stocks even just in general in the market and I could even see myself buying it again in the future and number two I've got Paramount for the nice dividend the low valuation and the turnaround potential in video streaming but I still think that Disney and Amazon are much better plays and at number three I've got Chevron for the solid dividend and the future potential in renewable Investments and then at number four I've got Louisiana Pacific a little too boring for me and not a big enough dividend to make up for it and then at number five I've got Occidental Petroleum who I've honestly never had any kind of interest in myself and I just think it's a pretty boring kind of bad stock overall but who cares what I think guys I would love to hear your thoughts down below let me know if you agree with my rankings would you make any changes to it do you own any of these stocks yourself and also let me know if there are any other famous investors or hedge funds that you would like me to take a look at what stocks they're buying too I'd love to make those videos for you but hope you're all doing well Merry Christmas happy holidays Happy New Year hope you're all enjoying this time of year and I will catch you in the next video hope you're all doing well take care my friends bye-bye foreign
