a lot of you guys probably know Michael burry who is part of the big short or a group of four people that made billions of dollars by predicting to 2008 recession now Michael burry has placed a lot of his money in water but why has he done such a move and should you be doing it as road temperatures are on the rise more strain is put on the water resources we have only 1% of the water on Earth is drinkable and only 0.007 percent of the world's total water is available for seven billion people to drink this is a limited supply which means out over time it will increase in value experts are expecting the demand for water to be 40 percent greater than the supply by 2050 due to the rising population and temperature change in an interview with Bloomberg Michael burry stated that he believes that agricultural land with lots of water on the site will have lots of value in the future as growing food and water rich areas and selling it and water poorer areas is at least controversial therefore Michael burry is purchasing almond farms because almonds require one gallon of water per almond what seems counterintuitive however is a factor 80% of the world's almond supply is grown in California which has just gotten out of a seven-year drought yet California is out of the drought so things are getting better for farmers in fact almonds actually use so much water that 10% of California's water goes to almonds investing in almond farms requires a significant amount of capital and is not ideal for many investors so how do we invest in water one ETF that has lots of exposure to water is the Guggenheim S&P Global Water index ETF which has a ticker symbol of cgw the S&P 500 global water index is also a great place to start with annual returns of 9% yearly on average these indexes are all extremely stable because we're always going to need water for survival but let's focus on specific stocks because they have more potential reward although they bring more risk one of my favorite water stocks is the American state water company which serves water to two hundred forty six thousand customers and provides electricity for twenty three thousand people the stock is currently up twenty seven percent and one year and one hundred twenty five percent in five years now the problem with American states water company is their valuation as its p/e ratio is at forty one compared to the second meeting of 1904 p/e ratio is 937 still higher than the sector meeting of twenty three despite the high p/e ratio its revenue is growing one point six seven percent year-over-year and is expected to go up two percent year-over-year in the future both lower than the sector meeting therefore I believe the evaluation on American States water company is too high up right now another great water stock is called American Water Works company which sounds like the previous company but is actually a totally different company American Water Works provides services like water sewer plumbing electricity heating and cooling protection similar to the previous company American Water Works trades at a premium with a PE of 37 and a four PE of 32 however the growth rates are higher than the sector meeting as this revenue is currently going three percent year-over-year and is expected to grow four percent year-over-year in the next 12 months these growth rates are higher than the sector median which explains their premium price therefore the value in this company is better than the company before American Water Works company is up 38 percent in one year and one hundred forty percent in five years which shows that the momentum on the stock is strong if you guys want me to make a video specifically for water stocks just hit that like button down below so I know that I should create another video like this also be sure to subscribe like and comment your help is really appreciated and as always thank you guys for watching
