The world's most respected investor looked at Bitcoin and said it was going to end badly, Warren Buffett. And not only him, other heavyweights in finance are warning of a crypto crash worse than the one in 2018. I'm Renzo from Crypto Report, I've been analyzing the markets for over 14 years, and today I'll show you who's warning us, what they're seeing, and why one of them is saying something that changes everything and isn't what you expect.
Let's go. To understand why there is so much fear today, we have to go back, much further than you think. In 2014, Bitcoin was worth about $600 and almost nobody knew what it was, and the most respected investor on the planet, Warren Buffett, appeared on American television and dismissed it in one sentence.
Buffett is not just another manager; he is the man who, starting from an old, bankrupt textile factory, built an empire worth more than a trillion dollars over half a century, always investing with the same rule: buy businesses that produce real money. And that's why when he speaks, all of Wall Street shuts up and listens.
And what he said about Bitcoin was devastating: stay away from it, it 's an illusion, and he concluded, the idea that it has any intrinsic value is simply a joke. He said this in the midst of the disaster, just weeks before Metegox, which was then the world's largest Bitcoin market, had collapsed, leaving hundreds of thousands of its customers' bitcoins behind.
For Buffett, that only confirmed what he already thought: $600, a mirage. Four years later, in January 2018, Bitcoin was no longer a curiosity; it had reached almost $20,000 and the whole world was talking about cryptocurrencies. Buffett returned to the attack and this time went further, saying that with almost total certainty cryptocurrencies were going to end badly and gave a perfect picture of how he thought, he said that if he could he would buy a kind of 5-year insurance against all cryptocurrencies, that is, he would bet that they would end up falling, but even then he did not want to short with his own money.
His explanation was as harsh as it was simple: in this business there were unscrupulous people taking advantage of others who were buying something they didn't even understand, just because their neighbor was getting rich. A few months later at his company's annual meeting, with Bitcoin below $10,000, he uttered a phrase that became legendary: that Bitcoin was probably rat poison squared.
His longtime partner, the late Charlie Munger, topped it off even more bluntly, saying that dealing with this was pure madness. And just in case there was any doubt, in 2022 Buffett made it clear in his own way that if he were offered all the Bitcoin in the world for $25, he wouldn't want it, because it doesn't produce anything; he would have to sell it to someone else, and that's it .
The greatest investor in history didn't say that Bitcoin was risky, he said it was going to end badly, that it was worthless, from the absolute top of world finance and repeating it for more than a decade. And during that decade, the market did the opposite. Bitcoin went from $600 to over $126,000 in October 2025.
Anyone who had heeded that advice back in 2014 would have missed one of the biggest price increases in history. But Buffett never budged an inch. And here's the worrying part, because in that same cycle, with Bitcoin plummeting from that peak, it's not just Buffett who's warning; he's been joined by some of the most respected voices in the financial world.
But Buffett, after all, spoke of a vague end, without a date, without a number. What comes next is much more concrete, because two heavyweights of economics took that warning and put a number on it, one that if it comes to pass would be worse than the 2018 crash. Let's start with the louder of the two, Peter Schiff.
Schiff is not just any analyst; he is an economist and fund manager who became famous for a very specific reason: he warned of the 2008 real estate collapse when almost no one was paying attention to him . For years he was invited to television to talk about the bubble and for years they laughed at him live, until in 2008 everything burst just as he had described it and he went from buffoon to prophet overnight.
Since then he defends gold and distrusts almost everything else. And he hasn't said one bad thing about Bitcoin, he's said them all. His thesis today is compelling. Schiff argues that if Bitcoin loses the $50,000 level, the fall will accelerate and go straight towards $ 20,000. From the peak of $126,000, that would be an 84% drop, almost identical to 2018.
And in its worst-case scenarios, it even talks about $10,000, a 92% fall; that's not like 2018, it's worse, and it's not just about the price. Schiff has been repeating for months that in 2026 there will be a financial crash more serious than the one in 2008 and that whoever owns Bitcoin will end up much poorer.
He directly calls companies that have filled their balance sheets with Bitcoin, like Michael Saylor's, a pyramid scheme, although it's worth remembering one thing: Schiff has been announcing the end of Bitcoin for over a decade and has been wrong many times. And look, why does this matter? Schiff hasn't invented a new fear; he's taking Buffett's old objection to the extreme.
If Bitcoin produces nothing, if it doesn't generate any cash flow, then everything, absolutely everything, depends on someone wanting to pay you more tomorrow than you paid, and nothing else. The second name is in a league of its own, Nouriel Roubini. Roubini is called Doctor Catastrophe and he has earned it.
In 2006, in a room full of economists from the International Monetary Fund, he described in detail the crisis that was going to erupt two years later. They laughed at him, but in 2008 nobody was laughing. He is a professor at New York University, and when he publishes something, the markets read it.
On February 3, 2026, he published an article with a title that said it all: the impending crypto apocalypse . In it, he argues that cryptocurrencies are not even a real asset class, but a pseudo-asset class, with nothing solid underneath. He gives a frightening statistic: in a matter of months, the entire crypto market deflated from about $4.3 trillion to about $2.3 trillion, almost half evaporated.
For Roubini, the only thing in this world that has real utility are stablecoins, those digital currencies tied to the value of the dollar. The rest, he says, is smoke and mirrors, and he dismantles the argument that this market likes best : that Bitcoin is only digital, a refuge for when everything else falls apart.
Roubini says the exact opposite, that it doesn't protect against anything, that it 's a way of multiplying the risk, because when stock markets fall, Bitcoin falls more, not less. He wraps it in academic language, but hits the exact same point as Buffett: real value, real utility. And what remains when the euphoria fades?
And here's something that almost no one is telling you, which explains why some believe that this time it could really be worse. In 2018, when Bitcoin crashed, the damage remained almost entirely within the crypto world itself. Not today, today we're not just talking about the small investor; there are dozens, maybe more than 100 listed companies that have made Bitcoin part of their treasury, part of the cash they operate with, and some of the most aggressive have gone a step further, issuing shares, preferred shares, even debt to accumulate even more.
And that creates a connection with Wall Street that didn't exist in 2018, and even less so on this scale, because the most leveraged companies, if the price falls far below what they paid, may be forced to sell, and those sales push the price down further, which puts pressure on the next ones. A chain reaction that in 2018 simply could not happen, because that machinery had not yet been built.
And let me stop here for a second, because this is precisely what almost no one is explaining well. If this approach is helping you better understand the real risk, please support me with a like, subscribe to the channel and click the bell icon, and tell me in the comments which side you're on. Will the doomsayers be right this time, or do you think they're wrong?
Because now, put it all together. Buffett says it will end badly, Schiff points to an 84%, even a 92% drop, Roubini speaks of apocalypse and a worthless pseudo-class . Voices of enormous weight, all pointing to the same precipice, but there is another name, and it is special. He is the only one who accurately predicted the 2018 crash when nobody saw it coming.
If anyone has earned the right to talk about a fall worse than that of 2018, it's him. And it turns out that his message is nothing like the other three. What he says completely changes how I should read all of this. And this is where Buffett's thesis runs into its biggest problem. It's not Schiff, it's not Roubini, it's history, because Bitcoin has been buried many times, and to this day it has always risen again.
And it turns out that among all those who are now announcing the catastrophe, there was one who did understand the 2018 crash before it arrived. His name is Peter Brandt. To understand why her voice carries weight, you first have to understand who she is. Brandt is a veteran operator with almost five decades in the markets, where they started trading raw materials with paper and telephone, long before the internet existed.
He's not an armchair theorist; he's one of those who risk his own money reading charts. And in 2018 he did something that very few have managed to do: he warned of the Bitcoin crash before it happened, and he was absolutely right . So when Brand talks about a fall, it's not just noise; he's the person in this whole story with the most right to compare the 2018 fall with the current one.
And this is what he says, yes, Bitcoin is going to go up more, we probably haven't seen the bottom yet, but—and here's the twist— this isn't the end of the world that others are making it out to be. What is it? A cycle. He explained it in detail in May 2026. Brand works with a pattern that repeats in Bitcoin every four years, linked to a technical event called Halving.
The Halving, which occurs every four years, cuts in half the amount of new Bitcoins that are created. Imagine it as a gold mine whose production is suddenly cut in half. According to this pattern, which has already been repeated three times, Bitcoin is actually born about a year and a half after each Halving, falls for approximately a year, hits bottom and rises strongly again towards the next one.
His specific prediction is that the bottom won't arrive until September or October 2026, that in the worst-case scenario Bitcoin could fall to the $ 50,000 range or even the high $40,000, and that after that it would take off to $250,000 by the end of 2029. And there's one detail that sets him apart from all the others.
Brand openly states that if the pattern breaks, he will change his mind. He doesn't accept the catastrophe, he reads the map and corrects it on the fly, the exact opposite of someone who has been repeating the same funeral for 15 years . Stop, think about it for a second, while Buffett, Schiff and Roubini see an abyss, the only one who was right in 2018 sees a painful valley, but a valley, one more step again within a cycle that has already happened several times.
And who is right? This is where I have to show you the fact that almost no one is putting on the table and that redefines this whole story. Look at Bitcoin's major drops side by side . In 2011 it plummeted 93%, in 2015 it fell 86%, in the famous crash of 2018 it fell 84%, in 2022 it fell 77%, and in this fall from the highs of October 2025, it is currently around 50%.
Listen to it again because it matters. 93, 86, 84, 77. Each Bitcoin crash has been less deep than the previous one, not more, less. As the asset grows and more serious money comes in , the percentage drops hurt a little less each time. And there is another detail that should be kept in mind. Each of those falls that seemed to be the end ended up being a new floor.
After the 2022 crash, when it was considered dead at $15,500, Bitcoin's price multiplied more than sevenfold to reach its peak in October 2025. I'm not saying this to promise it will happen again; I'm saying it because that's exactly what happened the previous times, which leaves an uncomfortable question hanging over the entire video.
If that's the trend in history, is this one really going to be suddenly worse than 2018? There is a second piece of information that further sharpens the doubt. Bitcoin has been declared dead more than 470 times since 2010. Some people keep an exact count, and the same names keep appearing in that tally .
Economist Steve Hanke has signed about 10 of those death warrants. Warren Buffett himself eight. Jamie Dimon, the head of the largest bank in the United States , seven. Everyone up to this point has been wrong. Buffett called Bitcoin a mirage when it was worth $600, it reached $126,000 and watch out, because the story has a crack.
That new machinery we were talking about earlier, the one with companies leveraging Bitcoin on their balance sheets, is just the kind of thing that could break the pattern and make this time different. Nobody knows yet, that's why this isn't a promise, it's a coin toss with history in one hand and a new risk in the other.
So the real question is this: will this be the time the doomsayers finally get their prediction right, or are they simply wrong again? The facts are what they are, three enormous voices point to the abyss, the only one who nailed 2018 says it's a cycle and each fall in history has been softer than the previous one.
Brand calls it a cycle, another phase of something bigger, but leaves the really important question unanswered. If this collapse is different from all the previous ones, what makes it different? There is one piece of data that almost no one is looking at, and a single indicator that tells you if the ground has been laid or if there is still pain ahead.
I'll show you in the video I'm leaving on your screen now, so don't hesitate and click now.
