01. hey everybody today we're gonna talk about reverse passive income this is something that I haven't heard anybody else talking about before but it's something that my mind was let's just say blown when I first found out about it see I first started out like a teen I was working at Jamba Juice for like $8.00 and after a year of working there I got a raise to eight dollars and ten cents it's like oh like I wanna make more buddy right this isn't working out so ended up working at Red Robin made nine dollars an hour three months after I got the job there I got Lauren my wife a job there she ends up becoming a server making like eighteen dollars an hour this is in California you just like you get base minimum wage as a server plus tips oh I'm so jealous like I want to make more than Lauren so when I finally became a real estate agent the first couple years was probably making around $20 an hour and I'm like ha gotcha it's really proud about that but my mind was kind of blown not because I figured out a way to make more money than Lauren yes I even though I knew I got in the job it was like a real competition yeah but anyway never did become a server I realized something really cool and that was when I was working for $20 an hour let's say in real estate sales worked backwards that's what it worked out to be I I found out that there was actually a way I could make more money than I was really worth every single hour and I call that reverse passive income let's break that apart and see exactly what I mean by that and how you could take advantage of a reverse passive income as well so now this concept is pretty epic and it's going to work pretty much any country you're in you just kind of have to roll with the math because the numbers might vary slightly but we're just gonna shoot in the middle and the concept is going to be very powerful for you to take away so here's the thing if you're worth $20 an hour and at home you know when you go work you hire somebody for $20 for an hour to mow your grass and kind of pick the weeds and clean up a little bit you actually have to work for more than an hour to pay that person $20 that is $20 that you're making per hour does not equal $20 you were able to spend on your house this is where reverse passive income comes off it it'll blow your mind roll with it the principle at play here is taxation this is pretty basic let's say on the last dollars you're earning state and federal no matter where you are you're paying somewhere around thirty five percent in taxes plus or minus well that means when you go to work for twenty dollars and you want to spend twenty dollars you're only gonna have fourteen dollars left of that twenty dollars so that actually means you have to earn about thirty dollars and seventy six cents to have $20 left to pay the person mowing your grass twenty dollars so what does that concept open up it opens up the idea that once you're done working you put your 40 hours in what if you had the spare time you mowed your grass well you are worth $20 per hour your time is worth $20 per hour but by you mowing the grass and you spend that same hour mowing the grass you're actually saving $30 and seventy six cents worth of working money that you would have to earn to be able to pay that landscaper so now while you're worth $20 an hour you just worked at a rate of thirty dollars and seventy six cents an hour that extra ten dollars and seventy six cents is reverse passive income that is because you are worth the active $20 per hour the passive part is the bonus compensation that you get for not having to earn money pay taxes and then spend it let's give you some more examples to really nail this one out so then I got really excited about this reverse passive income hack and I'm like wait a minute Toyota wants to charge me a hundred fifty five dollars to clean the mass airflow sensor on my 2011 Toyota Prius including the time it took me to look up the video and buy the little cleaning solution from Amazon which honestly I could probably just use a Windex I mean I don't know for me on that that much on cars I did buy the right product I ended up cleaning the sensor and everything in 20 minutes and for me to have made one hundred fifty five dollars after taxes to spend on this repair I would have had to earn two hundred thirty eight dollars that's a lot and it 20 minutes to do that so in theory was $238 saved in 20 minutes the passive income portion being the difference between 238 and 155 which is like wow I was worth that much more because I didn't have to pay the taxes the fact that I decided to fix my own car also increased my hourly earnings rate because it was a maintenance item I took care of myself but you can really pull this out and extrapolate it to anything for example you need to fix the toilet you got to put in a new wax ring well plumber is gonna charge you a hundred and five dollars to do that well you're already off for the weekend it's you know time for you to kind of just chill or do whatever the heck you want play some Xbox well maybe you know what you watch a YouTube video you replace that wax ring yourself because you would have to earn a hundred and fifty five dollars to be able to pay the plumber a hundred and five dollars the same thing is stuff that I internalized for installing light fixtures in my house changing light switches I'd watch YouTube I'd learn how to do something and I'd get paid really highly to be basically compensated for learning and doing this work a lot of it making me worth a lot more than it was actually worth per hour because of the tax savings of doing the work yourself and putting the labor in now it doesn't mean you're not gonna end up paying taxes because obviously you're still working anyway there's just sort of a psychological way of looking Wow now that means I'm saving more money which means I can invest more money and the hack is really a way for you to take advantage of learning new skill sets while also being rewarded saving a lot more money which opens you up to what stock investing real estate investing and heck I mean these skills are useful too I mean back when I used to have broken washing machines or laundry machines I would purposely take the time to try to figure out how to repair them because I was so bitter at the idea of paying somebody you know one amount but actually having to work for so much more to be able to afford that thanks to taxation now obviously this is really different when you're a business owner and you can write all this stuff off but that's where houses the home that you live in is usually different because you're not writing off the repair for your master toilet you're not writing off your home's energy bill which actually makes solar panels then putting in solar systems or LED light bulbs if you're renting a place you're paying the electricity bill they're usually not able to write that stuff off makes it a lot more interesting for you to say you know what maybe I should buy LED bulbs because I'm going to save after-tax money so if I'm gonna save a hundred dollars in electricity I would have to actually earn and I'll one hundred forty dollars or whatever to be able to afford that electricity bill so all in all reverse passive income is a great way to help you minimize your expenses and actually get compensated much more per hour than what you probably get compensated now at your job now there is one more little thing and that is look if you're making $20,000 a year your your math is gonna be a little bit different on this let's do the math together for a second okay let's say you have a bill of 200 dollars for a mechanic and you're gonna do that work yourself the example we did you would take $200 divided by point 65 that tells you how much you have to earn to be able to pay the $200 mechanic bill basically what you're doing is you take 1 minus your tax rate on the last money or earning example I used was 35% so I would do $200 divided by 0.65 and the math says I would have to earn three hundred and seven dollars to be able to pay that mechanics bill of $200 well if I could fix it even if it took me five hours I'd still get paid sixty one dollars per hour my opinion the reverse passive income method says I am earning $40.00 of passive income because remember I'm worth $20 of active income except now I'm manipulating the system to save more money this is where it comes up if you're making twenty thousand dollars and let's say your taxes are ten percent or you live in a state that doesn't have a state income tax a sudden you go was a 200-dollar Mechanicville / 0.9 i only have to make 222 dollars to be able to pay that 200 all in Mechanicsville do i really want to go through the effort of learning that skill and the other thing that's kind of ironic about this is the more money you make the more interesting this actually becomes let's say you make 160 thousand dollars a year well in California you make 160 162 thousand dollars a year the last dollars you're earning are getting taxed around 41% now of a sudden we can go and say okay well that $200 Mechanicsville / 0.59 I actually have to earn three hundred thirty-eight dollars to be able to pay the $200 mechanics bill so it becomes the more money you make becomes even more interesting to be able to do this stuff yourself all part of the mindset tricks folks and if you're interested in mindset tricks and a lot of good education on real estate investing or real estate sales check the links
