Welcome back to Passion World Talk Radio Network. And on today's episode, it's a special report about the billionaire founder and CEO of a hedge fund, Citadel. His name is Ken Griffin, and he's one of the top Republican parties donors. But yet he had a few harsh words for the president of the United States.
And the headline reads, "GOP, mega dunner issue stark warning for US retirees. I'm a retiree. Legally now you have to be 69, but there are plenty of people who retired at 65 and even at 55. So listen up. Trump's Fed attacks may carry a steep cost for your savings. Yes, your money that you put in deducted from your paycheck for the last two billion years, right?
Take care of you and your family should something happen to you. How to protect your nest egg as well as soon as possible. So what did he say in the Wall Street Journal and a OpEd? Griffin blasted the current president's attacks on the Federal Reserve and warned of economic fallout which that kind of influence can bring.
quote, "The president's strategy of publicly criticizing the Fed, suggesting the dismissal of governors, and pressuring the central bank to adopt a more permissive stance towards inflation carries steep costs." Griffin wrote to Annel, A N I L Cash App, K A S H Y AP, an economics professor at the University of Chicago.
The Fed has been tasked with maximizing employment and keeping prices stable, but it recently lowered its benchmark rate by 25 points, basis points, and has signaled that they will do so two more times. And it's noted, quote, "Inflation has moved up and remains somewhat elevated." Side comment. In an article I read yesterday, they're comparing what's happening right now as the glittering age of the roaring 20s.
And we all know what's around the corner after the roaring 20s. Griffin has argued that the current president's best interest is to let the Fed act independently so it can make the tough decisions needed to tame inflation. That's paying more money and on a limited income that we put away income grow.
It's stagnant, undermining the Federal's reserve independence and letting it bow to political pressure permits inflation to rise unchecked, which means that tens of millions of retired Americans will see their savings diminished. Senior voters tired of bearing the brunt of inflation could cost the administration dearly in the midterms.
One leads to the other. Inflation can erode the purchasing power of money. Side note, in Germany during the war, my mother told me that her father used a whale barer because their money had been devalued so much that it took a whole wheelbarrow full of it to buy a single loaf of bread. Think about that.
Over the past five years, the US consumer's price index has jumped 25%. And looking back further, it's even more sobering. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, $100 in 2025 buys what $1205 did in 1970. And for me on a limited income, that's sobering. Is there any good news? Savvy investors have long turned to certain assets to help protect their wealth from inflation's bite, regardless of how poorly the Fed does its job.
