Warren Buffett has now dumped more than were well over 50 percent nearly 60 percent of his position in byd he's selling shares like they're going out of fashion if you're at byd stockholder like I am then this has to be a little bit concerning just a little bit concerning for you because well Berkshire Hathaway were once the largest shareholders of byd and now their Founders and the the two guys who basically own the company well not all of it but obviously a lot of it uh selling and they're saying why in fact they just said why they sold and I'm sure if anyone actually listened to this but it's really important because it's a little bit concerning why is it concerning well here's why hello my friends welcome to the channel on the electric Viking thank you for tuning in my name's Sam Evans I'm coming to you from Thailand and welcome to all the new subscribers great to have you guys welcome back everyone else when I started this channel no one had really heard of byd they hadn't that's true that was about two years ago I used to talk back then a lot about byd how they are very similar to Tesla the two car companies do have a lot of similarities outside of the fact they both make electric cars I think both CEOs have a mutual respect for one another Elon Musk used to think pretty poorly on Bird's cars fairly because they were crap back you know their EVS back 13 years ago when Elon Musk made that quote that comment or 10 years ago they weren't all that good it's true he was right but now they're actually very good and so they are formidable a formidable company I still believe that byd and tez will be the two biggest car companies in the world within the next six to ten years within a fairly relatively short time frame but here is what's actually most amazing about this whole story that is that Charlie Munger was convinced by the CEO of Himalayan Capital to invest in 2008 into byd that at the time was a huge risk I mean it was a completely unproven company at the time and yet Berkshire Hathaway who have a completely opposing kind of fund investment strategy where they actually Target you know big companies known companies where they believe they're good value and they just Target those kind of companies risk-free Apple for example I mean Berkshire Hathaway what 47 of their entire portfolio is just Apple stock so you can see here why buying byd at that time would it be considered to be crazy however they've made a huge amount of money by buying byd so I guess the truth is now you can say they're just playing with house money they've made a lot of money they've actually sold enough stock to pay for their original investment by about a factor of five and they still own a fair bit of the company however they have been selling a lot they've made a lot of sales lately someone has to think that maybe there is some Merit to these comments that they made now Berkshire Hathaway which is headed by the world's fifth richest man all he once was the richest in the world until he actually got rid of a lot of his stock gave a lot of it away I believe for charity purposes has once again reduced his position or or at least reduced the position of Berkshire Hathaway in byd the holding company headed by Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger serving as Vice chairman now has a 9.87 stake in boed this stake is valued at U.S 3 billion or around about four and a half billion Australian dollars now Berkshire Hathaway has stakes in Kraft Heinz company American Express the Coca-Cola company and like I said Apple uh in fact yeah apple makes up 47 of its portfolio I don't fully understand that if you do please let me know in the comments why on Earth does it make up almost half the our entire portfolio when they have so many stocks in it so how much has he actually sold well they just sold 1.96 million shares that's around about 59 million US dollars but they've sold now for about eight times in a row just continued sales small sales small sales they don't want to tank the company they don't want to ruin the company I mean obviously if Berkshire went and dumped 10 percent of the company uh the company stock would have a significant Decline and therefore the value of what they have would go down the value of the price there price that they get for that those number of shares would go down because I mean it would take a while to clear that amount of stock and by the time they got to clearing it then price would have tanked essentially so they had to sell slowly and that's what they've done now I initially thought maybe they just sell a little bit but they continued to sell over and over and over so it is getting to the point where it's a little bit concerning and what else to ask yourself the question why are they doing this well here's what Warren Buffett said we don't want to compete with Elon in a lot of things and this was said at the company's annual shareholder meeting of the weekend this was in response to a question as to whether Warren Buffett believes the Tesla CEO over estimates himself we don't want that much failure Mr manga added so basically what manga was saying is we don't want to lose because we think Tesla is formidable we think Elon Musk is formidable and basically we're invested in the company that he is trying to well I wouldn't say lemonade but that he is incomp direct competition against in a variety of different areas I mean there's so many overlapping areas here isn't it there's Now battery cells there's you know electric cars there's battery storage there's heaps of different areas where they overlap Berkshire Hathaway actually first invested in byd back in 2008 and at the time they purchased 225 million shares for the today bargain price of U.S 232 million dollars however they had a 21 stake in the company as of late 2021 meaning they've now sold more than half their byd position in a pretty short space of time now right now today Tesla actually used the byd blade battery in the model Y which has been manufactured in Germany I actually found out recently what the size of that battery pack was and whether or not it was a structural battery pack now I'll put a link in the description below to that video If you haven't seen it it's worth having a look does this mean byd is in trouble well no I don't think that they are I mean they are competing in a tough Market they do have too many eggs in one basket I mean about 96 of the cars they sell right now are in China they're trying to get their cars out and they definitely are starting to sell them in lots of different countries worldwide so speeding that up would be very good for me as an investor getting less having less dependence on the bloodbath that is China right now where the automotive Market is basically imploding on itself would be a very very good thing however build these sales continue to grow at a record rate so do their battery sales those two areas for the company have been unbelievable success stories over the past two years bird actually overtook Volkswagen who were the largest manufacturer of vehicles in China this year and they actually now account for 40 of electric and plug-in hybrid sales in China this is the world's biggest car market this is a 27 million car car market the idea amount for account for 40 percent of EVs and plug-in hybrids that's amazing so should you sell your body stock well I don't know I mean I honestly aren't planning to do so yet but when I decided to do so if I do I will make a video about it for sure letting you know I did the same thing when I sold my Neo and x-punk shares as well let me know your thoughts in the comments and thank you for watching bye-bye
