Bitcoin is revolutionizing finance. Bitcoin is an international asset. This statement here, that Bitcoin has the same potential, can achieve the same as AI, comes from the CEO of the $10 trillion asset manager BlackRock, who, as is well known, plans to have the first official Bitcoin Sport ETF in the USA.
This is in stark contrast to October 2017, when he still referred to Bitcoin as a " money laundering index," so to speak. At first glance, such a statement, especially on national television, seems incredibly bullish. But Larry Fink, the CEO of BlackRock, is speaking here, somewhat subtly, also about a few other things that really show that the world's largest asset manager is now going all in on Bitcoin.
Today we'll look at the most important excerpts, of course with German subtitles, and discuss what it all means. Bitcoin is currently trading slightly below $31,000. There were a few things that pushed the price down slightly, especially yesterday, but the BlackRock story definitely provided some counter-pressure.
Ultimately, our consolidation phase of the last two and a half weeks is simply continuing. So, let's start right away with the first... A 27- second clip that I also posted on Twitter today, as it's truly one of the most important points from this interview. We briefly discuss an international currency independent of any other currency, and that's the first key insight.
It's the underlying principle, leading to the assertion that an investment in Bitcoin can serve as a hedge against the, as he puts it, troublesome problems of a single country. He talks about currency devaluation, protection against inflation, and so on. However, what's perhaps more interesting is that he then draws a comparison to gold.
In his own words, he says that he sees crypto as simply digitizing gold in many respects— an asset in which BlackRock is heavily invested, even holding its own BlackRock Gold & General fund, which has a net worth of over one billion US dollars. Larry Fink admittedly doesn't seem to grasp this, and the reason I would say he's only just beginning to get closer to the truth is that Bitcoin not only solves the problems of gold but also the problems of fiat currencies, which is actually the core reason why Bitcoin came about, as Jan Wüstenfeld, however, writes that one way or another, they will all come to Bitcoin.
Now, the reason why BlackRock is coming to Bitcoin is not only because of its nature as digital gold, but also because of another completely different characteristic, which we see in the second clip. Before we watch that, however, I would like to briefly point out that via my link to the EU-regulated crypto exchange Bitvo, which I personally use to buy, sell, and hold my crypto, there is a €10 starting bonus and €10,000 of free trading volume.
It's a really cool promotion that should at least make you want to take a look at the advantages of Bitvo. You can find everything via the first link. And now we come to the second clip by Larry Fink. That's cleared up, it's a broken down, and so this is while World of Warcraft. I'm not sure if you really understood that correctly.
At first, I also thought that I might have watched a clip by Michael Sailor, but no, Larry Fink acknowledges here that the underlying technology of Bitcoin, the blockchain in quotation marks, is fantastic because it eliminates certain intermediaries. He mentions them as an example. Castodiens, so custody services are simply removed.
Blockchain technology is therefore a technological advancement, no different from AI, which can also achieve the same level of change as AI can. In the words of Tyler Winkelwurst, "First day ignore you, then the love you," and he's referring to Larry Fink, but it's ultimately applicable to all of Wall Street.
For example, we just got the news that, so to speak, the Bitcoin sports ETF race continues after Walkerin resubmitted their application with Coinbase as the exchange. What I want to look at with you now is the question of how many BTC Wall Street can actually buy, and then the question of what will happen when the SEC finally gives the green light.
But first, as promised at the beginning, the reason why Bitcoin fell a bit yesterday. To make it short, the FOMC minutes, the restrictive FMC protocol, where they simply made it clear once again that they are not yet finished with interest rate hikes and so on, and that the process of bringing inflation down to 2% will be a very long one.
By the way, while we're already on the topic of macroeconomics, I actually did n't give an overview of the week yesterday because There isn't really much going on this week, but the most important event is still the US jobs report for June on Friday, and the US Non-Profit Report is always very, very relevant, which is why I will of course keep you updated here on Friday.
But now let's get to the first question: how many Bitcoins can Wall Street actually buy? In total, over 4 million Bitcoins are available here in green and blue, with almost 75% of them being very liquid, meaning they are available very quickly. That's a whopping 124 billion US dollars that the world's largest asset managers can buy.
After that, however, things get tight. Around 15.2 million Bitcoins are illiquid, meaning investors are n't parting with their Bitcoins so quickly. This is because, as you can see in this chart, liquidity in the crypto market has decreased significantly in recent months. In the end, 3 million Bitcoins is still an extremely large amount, of course, but something you can at least tell the people who still say that BlackRock is buying all our Bitcoins.
The second question: what happens when the SEA finally gives the green light for ETFs? In Tom's words, then Livi can't buy an ETF. Without initial capital, meaning without spot purchases for the BTC ETF, I would expect the initial capital for these eight asset managers ( shown below) to be between $200 and $400 million upon approval, and of course, much more once the products are launched.
The current assumption is that they will all be approved at once. This would significantly and rapidly move the market. This means that even at launch, without any customers having yet purchased Bitcoins through the ETFs, spot purchases could already amount to perhaps $200 to $400 million, which could have a very large impact in the currently very illiquid market.
