When I talk about this statistic, it scares me. Larry Fink says this statistic scares him, and that's why he believes in Bitcoin. In 2000, the US deficit was $8 trillion; today it's $34 trillion. Twenty-three years later, we increased our deficit by $26 trillion. So, over the next 230-odd years, we increased our deficit by $8 trillion, and in the last 23 years, we increased it by $26 trillion.
I think that speaks volumes about what's happening in our country today. BlackRock has now spoken out, saying that Bitcoin is overwhelmingly our top priority for our investors. An interesting quote from BlackRock: "What we 're seeing is that investors—our investors— are overwhelmingly choosing the BlackRock iBIT Bitcoin ETF for their access to Bitcoin.
This is a combination of investors who are totally new to Bitcoin, plus those who have had exposure to Bitcoin before. For our clients, Bitcoin is overwhelmingly the top priority, and a little bit of Ethereum." Now, the last time you were on the show, you also mentioned that there will be a Blockchain ecosystem that will rule them all, and you think that's Ethereum?
Why do you think that? It's very interesting when you lift the veil and see what's happening with Bitcoin and Ethereum on exchanges. The downward trend in Ethereum and Bitcoin reserves on exchanges persists, with a slight increase for Ethereum. Meanwhile, the decrease in Bitcoin's supply intensifies, probably driven by ETF acquisitions.
But the interesting thing is that there's less Ethereum than Bitcoin inside the exchanges. Guys, hit that like button! Let's spread this information to as many people as possible. Most people don't realize that BlackRock is going to own more Bitcoin than Michael Sailor soon. Give me an example of something you can own $100 million of, where you can take personal custody of it and move it anywhere on Earth, and where even if I hold a gun to your head, I can't take it from you.
And the only thing we've discovered that you can do that with is Bitcoin. Bitcoin is like... it keeps everyone honest. The option to do this means that all you have to do is find a bank in Singapore that will... Treat it better than the bank in New York, London, or Tokyo. And then you can move it in half an hour for 5.
And what happens next? The New York bank thinks, "Well, I guess we can't fool these guys because they'll move to Singapore and California." They say, "I can't just record all the bitcoin in California. It'll move to Wyoming, it'll move to Singapore, it'll move to Malta," and at the end of the day, you'll screw them all.
So yeah, bitcoin seems incredibly bullish. Just give it time. The conversation about bitcoin today is 100% dedicated to ETFs. It seems simply because there's so much demand coming from that ETF wrapper. Because it's so easy for these big players and institutions to buy bitcoin ETFs. Many are in the process of being incorporated and buying their first 1%, 2%, then 3%.
Wisdom Tree gets approval to buy spot bitcoin ETFs for its $ 206,000 and $ 117,000 funds. Certainly, the biggest unknown at the moment is Ethereum. As we see what's happening behind the scenes, BlackRock is launching a tokenized asset fund in Ethereum already seeded. With $ 100 million in USD, we have different analysts and expert institutions publishing detailed reports with Ethereum price predictions.
Standard Charter Bank predicts that Ethereum could reach $8,000 by the end of 2024 and possibly $14,000 by the end of 2025. What do you think? Larry has already outlined his vision for Ethereum, and it seems his vision is rapidly becoming a reality. Look at this: I think the next generation for markets and the next generation for securities will be the tokenization of securities.
And if we can have that distributed ledger where we know every owner, every beneficiary, every seller—we all have our code of who is buying and who is selling— I instantly see value in having Ethereum ETFs. As I said, these are just the first steps toward tokenization, and I really think this is where we're going.
We have the technology to tokenize today. If you want to talk about it, if you had a tokenized identity, Andrew, the moment you buy or sell an instrument, it's known. It's on a general ledger that's created all together. You want to talk about money laundering issues and all that? This eliminates All the corruption of having a tokenized system.
Hello Los Angeles residents, be sure to attend the Alcoin Daily Rose on April 11th from 6 to 10 pm in Santa Monica. There's a special two-for-$440 ticket sale right now. Link below. Come have a laugh, it 'll be great. Are you more optimistic right now about Bitcoin or Ethereum? I feel like we've reached a point in the cycle where it's pretty obvious how bullish Bitcoin is.
Bitcoin could reach $100,000, $200,000, $ 300,000 in just a year or two. It's possible. As I said before, Ethereum is a big unknown. But let's move on to this man here, Paul Brody of Ernst & Young. Ernst & Young is one of the Big Four accounting firms. These guys are more than MicroStrategy. Paul Brody leads Ernst & Young's blockchain department.
He's more optimistic about Ethereum. He believes an Ethereum ETF is on the horizon, but he's interested in ADO in Ethereum, not just as a not only as an investment but also as a definitive platform for decentralized Super Applications. Here, he explains how important the latest Ethereum upgrade was.
To use Ethereum, there are two things worth highlighting about Zenken. The first is that, like all these previous Ethereum upgrades, they did it flawlessly, without drama or downtime. It's truly amazing when you think about it, right? They moved several hundred billion dollars of financial infrastructure from one version to the next without a hitch.
So that's the first thing, which is simply the maturity of the organization, the people, the engineers behind it. The second thing, however, is that first there was the merger, which happened, you know, 12 months ago, and now Denkin. Both are milestones in terms of reducing transaction costs, and Denkin, in particular, was built on the merger.
And now we're seeing some of Ethereum's transaction costs falling below one cent. Some of them were allowed to drop to 5 cents previously, but now we're below one cent. And this may not seem like a big deal, but especially for industrial customers, we're talking about, for example, I have clients who want to do a million or more transactions a day.
for a single product line to manage their supply chains. So when you start talking about those volumes, the really low transaction costs are extremely important. It's that Ethereum has simply become the default choice for any kind of digital token. It will be in the Ethereum ecosystem, of course. The big unknown is the BlackRock Ethereum ETF.
Paul Brody believes it's going to happen. He believes that it will usher in a new era for Ethereum. In fact, listen to what he says. Another development we're obviously following is that many asset managers have pending applications with the SC for a spot ether ETF. Some of them are BlackRock, Bankek, and Grayscale.
And the last time you were on the Crypto World show in September, you seemed optimistic that these applications would indeed be approved, and you pointed out that if they are indeed approved, there will be a wave of institutional money flowing into the space. So, are you still optimistic that these ETFs will be approved?
And what will change if they are indeed approved? I'm very optimistic. The experience with Bitcoin ETFs has been very positive. There's something A similar situation exists with Ethereum, which is going to be just as positive. What will eventually happen is that I'm a little surprised it hasn't happened yet.
It's that people don't treat Bitcoin and Ethereum differently. But in reality, Bitcoin has become a kind of digital gold; it's a crypto asset, while Ethereum has really positioned itself as a crypto computing platform. So, if you want to hold an asset just for its appreciation, or if you want to invest in a computing platform for financial services and business operations, then Ethereum, and ETH in particular, will be your choice.
But the Ethereum Foundation is under investigation by the SEC. The SEC is apparently still trying to label Ethereum as an unregistered security. Paul Brown of Ernst & Young and Michael Sailor of Ethereum explain why Ethereum is still a buy in the first place. There have been all these reports, but there haven't been many facts, and I could be wrong because I haven't seen the most recent data, but I don't think the SEC itself has said anything officially on this subject.
You know, I feel like the discussion about Bitcoin in the first place delayed the conversation about Bitcoin a couple of times. The maximum timeframe. And secondly, there were always rumors circulating. I think it would be premature to worry too much about it, but obviously, even if Ethereum is categorized as a security, it doesn't change the fact that it's an extremely valuable platform, and we've already worked with many clients to be able to use the Ethereum blockchain without having to own ETH.
You can simply transact entirely in US dollars. So I don't think it will be an obstacle to the adoption of Ethereum as a computing platform, and it certainly won't be an issue in Europe or Asia, where many other countries have regulatory frameworks that support securities. So yes, I think Bitcoin is a safe buy right now, but you also shouldn't underestimate Ethereum.
And there's a reason why I call this man the Michael Sailor of Ethereum because he thinks the Ethereum blockchain is the blockchain that will rule them all. Subscribe to Alcoin Daily. We publish a video every day to keep you informed. See you tomorrow. Now, the last time you were on the show, you also mentioned that there will be a blockchain ecosystem that will rule them all, and you think that's Ethereum.
Why do you think that? So, Ethereum is dominant in the same way that things like Microsoft and Windows are, right? And I always hate getting into the discussion about which platform is better because there are always better platforms. Technology keeps advancing, but what happens is that we tend to choose a platform that is widely adopted and has a lot of momentum.
We see that in computing platforms all the time, right? Windows is the world's desktop operating system. EDM has the dominant share; it has 100% of the business share in mainland France. Ethereum, if you think of Ethereum as a computing platform, this idea that we would have a single dominant platform makes a lot of sense.
And if you look at the ecosystem right now, for example, there are quite a few challenges to Ethereum, but Ethereum is... So, the real competitive action, the real innovation, is now happening within the Ethereum ecosystem, not in competition with it. So, the momentum has really shifted in terms of where the market is focused.
And I think that's good for application development because people are no longer asking, "Which network should I be on?" They'll be on Ethereum. And then the question is, "What applications?" should implement which layer two network should be used
