Hey everyone, this is André Cadore speaking. This is 'About Money', and before we start the video, I'd like to ask for your like and subscription to the channel if you haven't already. In this video, we're going to talk about another successful investor. His name is David Rapper. David Rapper is known as one of the best hedge fund managers of his generation, generating stable returns for his investors and clients for many, many years.

He is the founder and chairman of the Apalusa Madman hedge fund. In 2020, he was managing approximately $13 million from 2018 until he also bought the Carolina Panthers professional football team in a $2.3 billion deal. After relocating his hedge fund from New Jersey to Florida, he worked as head of the investment-grade securities sector.

Bond ratings are representations of the credit quality of corporate or government bonds. The ratings are published by credit rating agencies and provide assessments of the financial soundness of a bond issuer and its ability to pay the principal and interest on the bond according to the contract. But after that...

He decided to found Mad Men in 1993 after being passed over for a partner promotion. Born on September 11, 1957, David was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and as a young man he demonstrated a strong fascination with football and baseball. He noted that he memorized baseball statistics from baseball cards he received from his grandfather.

He studied at Piety High School located in the Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and he earned a bachelor's degree in economics, graduating with honors. He also began investing small amounts throughout college, which sparked his interest in working in the financial sector.

He started working for the Eco and Bank treasury department as a credit analyst. However, shortly after, dissatisfied with his position, he decided to enroll in the Carne Mello University business school to obtain an NBA. After obtaining his NBA, he went to work in a treasury department at Republic.

However, in 1984 he ended up being recruited by Goldman Sachs, which Stone moved to. Just a year later, in 1985, he joined Goldman Sachs. Sacks recruited Temper as a credit analyst while they were assembling a high-yield debt team in New York. TP became the lead within six months and ended up staying at Sax for seven years.

Temper specialized in non-performing debt, i.e., government bonds, companies that are in default, under bankruptcy protection, or in financial distress and heading towards very difficult situations in the future. This includes all credit instruments that are traded at a significant discount, namely bankruptcies and special debt situations.

However, over time, he decided to leave this job at Sax in 1992 after being passed over for a partner position in early 1993. Temper ended up negotiating at a table with Sax client Michael Price, aiming to raise enough capital to start his own hedge fund. He managed to raise enough and create Apalusa Mad Men as his first fund, the alternative investment vehicle, a partnership between Oi Gente and institutional investors.

Apalusa Mad Men invests in fixed income markets and public equities. Founded by David and Jake Walton, it started as a debt investment firm. defaulters. But it ended up being known as a hedge fund. Later, the fund generally focuses on undiversified and quite concentrated positions, particularly in stocks and debt of distressed companies, as well as fixed income instruments and derivatives.

Apalusa achieved an impressive track record of generating returns for its investors. In the first six months of operation of the Ford Edge, it delivered a 57 percent return on its raised capital, growing to $300 million in assets under management in 1994. Fast forward 20 years to 2014, the fund reported assets of approximately $20 billion.

Despite short-term market volatility, in the long term Apalusa generated solid multi-million dollar returns. Forbes reported that the initial $1 million investment in the fund was worth $181 million 20 years later. The rapper is an avid sports fan, which translates into some investments in professional sports teams.

On September 25, 2009, he bought a 5 percent minority stake in the Pittsburgh team he is loyal to. In 2018, the rapper He bought the Carolina Panthers and other NFL teams. He bought them from the original owner, Richard Gere, for $2.2 billion, which at the time was the highest bid in NFL history. After buying the Carolina Panthers, he went on to bid for teams in Major League Soccer.

In July 2019, the Carolina Panthers organization acquired an expansion team in the MLS in Charlotte. In early 2008, he posted that blue-chip stocks would rise, but the market entered a downward spiral soon after, and the stock lost about 25 percent in a very short time after the subprime mortgage crash in 2008.

The rapper was optimistic about bank stocks, or rather, most investors were afraid or distrustful of these institutions, and he bought preferred stock in Washington Mutual and Duarte, obviously, both bought by larger rivals, obtaining a considerable profit. He had panicked selling, driving down the value of financial institutions.

How did this affect America and Citigroup? At the time, he was investing in them. The Southern Tycoon also bought approximately two billion dollars worth of stock. of commercial mortgage-backed securities issued by Eidy when the government intervened to ensure the survival of these banks, Apalusa obtained more than 7 billion in profits, a 120% net return on fees, and a net salary of 4 billion.

The negotiations and tempering after the 2008 market crash can be considered the largest negotiations ever conducted in a crisis. It should still be in the market but has expressed interest in converting to Family Offices. Apalusa has to deliver returns repeatedly, and its investors over the years greatly appreciate the fund.

Although he no longer manages other people's money, David is still a regular commentator on the stock market. His opinions can move the market in some cases, including due to popularity. But that was the video, folks. I hope you enjoyed it. If you liked the video, leave a like. If you're not subscribed to the channel, subscribe. Thanks, bye, and until next time.
