So, Cathie Wood of ARK Invest just called Ethereum the backbone of the decentralized internet. It's not a new take from ARK Invest. In fact, Cathie Wood has been extremely bullish on the top two assets in the cryptocurrency market. That's Bitcoin and Ethereum. But, in this video, I want to break down exactly why Cathie Wood and ARK Invest think the way they do about ETH.
And really break down their thesis on why Ethereum could be severely undervalued. And we're going to do it right now in this video, guys. Real quick, if it's your first time dropping in, my name is Zach. I've been here for 5 plus years, 6 years almost now, in the cryptocurrency market making content every single day and every step of the way, bull market, bear market, we are here putting out content for you.
No hype, no BS, just strictly solid information for you each and every day. So, do me a solid. It's totally free. We'll take a look at the Ethereum chart first and foremost, then we'll come back to this thesis that Cathie Wood has, you know, surrounding Ethereum.
It's pretty fascinating and I think we can definitely glean from it. But, if we take a look at the Ethereum chart, this is the weekly chart. And it was kind of an interesting setup for ETH. You guys can see where we are right now. It's been a lackluster performance since we topped out in 2021. We did come up and scratch new all-time highs back in August of 2025.
But, we just haven't made that breakthrough moment, right? A lot of people look at Bitcoin and where it got to over 100,000, you would think that Ethereum would be in that 8 to 10K range. And it just hasn't had its moment yet. Maybe a lot of the attention and focus has been shifting back toward Bitcoin with all of the institutional capital.
But, a lot of the institutions still think Ethereum is undervalued. If we go back into this time period right here, we came up in December 2024, looked like we were going to rocket from here. Uh Trump had just got elected. We were coming up on new all-time highs and all these all coins are running. It looks like we were just going to make a breakthrough moment.
And the exact opposite happened. We broke all the way down to 1,400. It was brutal. And then even though we broke structure on the chart, we set a lower uh low here, right? On the weekly, then we shot up and made an all-time high. It's just been weird movement and now we're way back down. Does it look like we're kind of coiling up yet again for maybe another run?
Well, we could be. A lot of it's going to hinge on what happens with the geopolitical tensions, what happens with Bitcoin, and what happens with the overall risk-on asset class. I mean, we're seeing, you know, tech stocks also take a hit right now. A lot of people rotating, at least here in the short term, into things like energy, consumer staples, uh industrials, precious metals, right?
We've seen that rotation happening since late last year. But Ethereum does look pretty good. I mean, obviously, if we broke down past the $1,500 level, look out. I mean, we could be coming down to uh 2022 lows and coming down below 1,000 bucks. I think the lowest we could potentially go is like in that $800, $900 range.
That's just my uh you know, objective kind of thesis. But overall, there are some big institutions who are very very excited about the prospects of Ethereum and Milk Road did this great breakdown and I wanted to give them credit and also talk about Cathie Wood and basically, their thesis goes like this.
Ethereum solves what they call the problem of digital function. It's the infrastructure layer that lets developers deploy code, settle transactions, and build applications without a central authority controlling the rails. This is why they like it. Secondly, it's the indispensable infrastructure for DeFi and decentralized applications, the same role TCP and IP played for the traditional internet, except with programmable money backed in from the start.
Third, Cathie Wood frames Ethereum as an institutional grade asset for financial services, not a speculative token, but a settlement layer for the new financial system. The number ARK has attached to this thesis, a $20 trillion market cap by 2032. You might be wondering, $20 trillion? Where would that put us?
$20 trillion. Right now, we are just over 200 billion. Well, if we start to play around with this, and we lay this out, you could start to see what we get to. I mean, a $20,000 ETH only puts us at a $2.4 trillion asset. Okay, that's kind of insane. Now, if we put a $40,000 Ethereum, that gives us a 5 trillion.
I mean, this is kind of crazy, right? So, we still have to continue to kind of stack this up. A $100,000 Ethereum is 12 trillion. And again, this is the thesis from Cathie Wood. That's a roughly 84 X from where Ethereum sits today to get to that $20 trillion number. And, you know, we're talking about essentially like a $170,000 price of Ethereum.
That is insane, an 85 X. Wouldn't that be insane if this actually plays out? I mean, is it realistic? They ask. That depends entirely on whether DFI tokenized assets and decentralized applications become mainstream financial infrastructure or stay in niche. The regulatory tailwinds are moving in the right direction.
The Fed, OCC, and FDIC just greenlit tokenized securities on permissionless blockchains, and Ethereum was named explicitly. That's exactly the kind of institutional signal ARK's thesis has been waiting for. So, they're putting out a $20 trillion market cap by 2032. I think that's a little insane. However, I do think that Ethereum is undervalued, right?
And I think it could certainly be by 2032, you know, perhaps a five to ten trillion-dollar market cap. I think that is certainly possible. 20 would be insane. Um, however, I'm not going to say that it can't happen, right? That's the beautiful thing about being in this asset class right now. You know, everybody has different predictions, but you know, whether Cathy's right or, you know, it's just still an open question, right?
But the underlying bet is increasingly less crazy than it sounded five years ago, given what we know, that the world's financial infrastructure eventually runs on programmable decentralized rails. It's just, will they build it themselves or will they use the existing technology? That's the big question.
And so, yes, Ethereum could be that backbone of the decentralized internet, but I guess we'll have to just wait and see over time. But we're going to be here every step of the way.
