what is going on guys, welcome back to the best day trading investing... well, pretty much the best channel on YouTube. Guys, welcome back to the show. In today's episode we're going to talk about the best electric car company, Tesla. We're going to do a stock breakdown, but before we do that, there's something I want to mention. But let's jump back to the video and talk about Tesla stock, see whether it's worth buying and what's going on with it.
So let's go. Guys, what's going on? We have our charts up here, using the TD Ameritrade thinkorswim platform. The four studies we have up are our moving average lines: the 9, 20, 90, and 200. Volume is down below, and then we have our RSI. For those who don't know what these mean: moving average lines act as support and resistance lines and identify trends very easily. The RSI, the relative strength index, measures the overall strength of a stock. As you can tell, when the RSI hits 30, that's when we get these buying pressures. So pretty much any time a stock shows high strength, you'll get notified up here. You can see it's already way up here, so there could be a possible shortcoming coming in.
So let's talk about Tesla. Tesla is one of the founders, or one of the first car companies to really gear toward electric-only. Yes, we do have Ford, GM, Chrysler, and Chevy, but other than those, which are the big auto companies out there, they're still using the gas-burning combustion engine. Tesla, on the other hand, isn't using those. They're using only electric, only good batteries, that kind of thing. We do have a couple of other companies that are electric-only. We have Tesla, and then let's pull up Nio. It's a very similar scenario. This stock, on its IPO, really surged from five all the way to almost $14, with some support around the six-dollar mark. I made some textbook trades in it, and then it sold off, and now it's way above all these moving average lines. There's really nothing much to say about it.
Looking at Tesla, let's pull it back up. You can see there's a hard resistance up here at the 386 mark. Let's get our drawing tools up and start our Tesla breakdown. As you can tell, there's a hard resistance here at 389. Every time it comes into contact with it, it sells off. It's hit it one, two, three, possibly four times, or you could count it that way, but every time it touches it, it sells off. So we're going to set an alert here. We left-click here and set an alert, because there are two possible things we can do. One is a gap-and-go setup, which is basically when a stock breaks over this resistance. When that happens, it gets a ton of buyers interested, and that can spike the price up, possibly only three or four percent since it's a large-cap company. On the downside, we set our stop right below here. If it comes up and gets sold off, no big deal. Another scenario: if it doesn't break, we can go short on the stock. If it's overvalued, we can short it and bet on the downside.
Overall, in my opinion, Tesla is a good buy right now. I think this company still has long-term potential. If we look at a lot of other companies, such as Facebook and Apple, we're still at the front end of this stock. The stock really didn't start moving until 2013-2014 and didn't pick up momentum until October 2017. In my opinion, this stock is still a great buy right now, because I think CEO Elon Musk is a very smart guy. I think he understands the concept of technology and autonomous driving, and he's doing a lot of things other people aren't. As investors, yes, it's a little scary, but this is a good company. If we're looking long-term, it still has an upward trend line, which is strong. I'm hoping to see it go up to around 425 sometime by next year. It is strong. People are buying the stock, because it's strong on the RSI and still has one to two resistance lines ahead. So we could possibly get in around 380, which would probably be a good spot, and get a possible push up to the 400s at the top, probably at 360. We're risking about $20 to make hopefully around $50, which would be the ideal goal. But overall, I think Tesla is a good buy, and I'm excited for the future.
