There is a question that has been bothering people for years, where should we invest our money for the long term so that it keeps growing? In today's analysis, we are going to find the answer to this question, based on 200 years of financial history. Don't we all wonder at some point that how to keep our hard-earned money safe and at the same time how to grow it?
It is very important to strike a balance and then what naturally comes to our mind is safety, gold bonds or cash in the bank. We think that there is no safer place to keep our savings. This is a very traditional idea and this idea is not new today. For centuries, people have trusted gold land or bonds because these things seem stable and less risky, but does history tell us something different?
Let's see. Now this is where the real story begins, because when we look at this traditional idea in the mirror of history, what we see is really astonishing. Let's go straight to the root of this question through the study of Jeremy Siegel. Let's imagine that we are in the year 1802 and we have We invest just one dollar and then our journey lasts for 200 years.
During this journey, crises like the Great Depression and periods of massive inflation occur, and then what happens is that one dollar, but the result of this 200- year journey is literally shocking. The returns that different investment options have yielded are beyond our imagination. It is true that one dollar is more than a million dollars .
The value of that one dollar invested in stocks has increased so much. This is the power of compound interest, where your profits earn new profits for you. This is the magic of long-term investing. Look at this graph . The whole story is in this. Doesn't the skyrocketing bar of stocks on one side and bonds and gold in front of it seem quite trivial ?
Bonds just beat inflation. Gold only preserved the value of money, but the real wealth was created only by stocks. Seeing all this, a very important question naturally arises in our minds that challenges our fundamental thinking about investing. What do we understand by risk? The daily ups and downs in the stock market are not.
The real risk is not that, the real risk is inflation which we do not even realize and gradually the value of our money i.e. our purchasing power decreases. So look at how we think and what is the real reality. We think stocks are risky but in the long run the real risk is inflation. We think bonds are safe but in reality stocks only protect our purchasing power.
Then the question arises what do stocks do that the rest cannot do. The reason is simple. Stocks are the owners of real companies. These companies can increase the prices of their goods when inflation increases. Their earnings increase. They pay higher dividends and when these dividends are reinvested, wealth literally grows at a tremendous rate through compounding.
Well, we have all this knowledge but now how to use it in practice. Let's look at some simple but very effective rules. These are the three simple rules of successful investment. Do n't invest all your capital in a single stock, spread it across different companies to reduce risk. Reinvest the dividends you receive from the two companies without withdrawing them, take advantage of compound interest, and most importantly, be patient.
Remember this one sentence: don't be afraid to look at what's happening in the market every day. The essence of investing is in this one sentence: staying in the market for a long time is much more important than trying to get it right at the right time in the market. And just one question, when we think about our money and our future, how big is our perspective?
A few months, a few years, or the next generations? Because history tells us that real wealth is created by those who think far ahead.
