i'm sure you've heard by now after elon's little twitter game that he's been selling off ten percent of his stake in tesla but insanely somehow in spite of selling ten percent of his stake he's actually increased his percentage of ownership in the company how is that even possible i'll tell you in just a second hello my friends welcome to the channel my name is sam evans you are watching the electric viking great to have you here welcome to all the new subscribers and welcome back to everyone else who's been here for more than a month i mean it's a new channel so no one has been here for that long however some of you have been around for the full seven months from the start and i really appreciate your support guys fantastic to see you here and i want to say a big thank you to those of you who have jumped on our patreon account and become supporters of the channel it makes it possible for us to make so many videos per day to try and give you a real full understanding of what's going on in the electric car world not just for a certain brand or a certain opinion or a certain narrative so if you'd like to support the channel i'll put a link to our patreon account in the description below now tesla rarity has reported that elon musk may have sold 10 million shares of the electric vehicle maker tesla over the last month ceo has actually increased his holdings in the company since the start of his massive sell-off to date musk actually owns 560 000 more shares than he did since he started offloading some of his personal tesla stock now musk has so far sold 10.1 million shares but he still has about 7 million tesla shares to sell off to complete his target of a 10 sale in the company now as noted in a cnn business report an analysis of musk's filings has revealed that the ceo is he's actually not backing away from his holdings in tesla at all in fact he's increasing them now i actually love this and i i know some people just have this feeling about billionaires they they kind of resent them or they feel jealous towards them or they they dislike them they think they're doing bad things in the world and that's just a general feeling i think that's the general perception of a lot of people have a scarcity mentality and i think i did grow up with that a little bit but over the years i've been able to kind of try and push that mentality away and not see things that way because once we see things that way we have a scarcity mindset and it's very hard then to be successful we just want to bring things to us and keep and hold on to them and hold on to them when we do that we actually find that we often lose out in the long run so i think it's important to focus on the fact that not all billionaires are evil not all billionaires are out to do the wrong thing in fact wealth is a good thing and wealth is not finite there's enough wealth for everyone to go around we cannot all become more wealthy so what i like is the fact that tesla's founder well one of his co-founders technically decided not to take salary but instead to take stock options which would only actually be awarded to him if the company reached certain levels of performance so everything came down to the way that tesla and the ceo performed and well obviously tesla well and truly hit those measures of performance now i prefer this model massively over ceos of companies like say mary barra who takes a wage where she makes 200 times the average of her staff but obviously if she was that confident that general motors would succeed wouldn't she prefer to get some sort of similar deal to elon musk i know i know i'm not saying she's going to get billions and billions of dollars but i'm saying that rather than taking a salary what about saying well you know give me 0.05 percent of stock options that will if we reach certain targets then i get this rather than paying me a salary i'm so confident that i can do a brilliant job that i can get the company from here to here that i want to bet everything on that and i really like that way of acting as a ceo so in my view elon is very much entitled to this wealth because he has helped manufacture it now the reason that musk has been able to increase his holdings is because while he was offloading massive amounts of his shares he was also exercising options to purchase additional tesla stock which he is capable of doing at a huge discount that was part of the deal now musk has been able to buy tesla stock at a bargain price of six dollars per share insane right but back when this deal was made it seemed reasonable that is well below one percent of the company's current stock market price but like i said when the deal was made it was nowhere near that of course it would have been maybe 10 now since musk posted a poll on twitter last month asking the users of social media platform if he should sell some of his tesla holdings the ceo has exercised options to purchase 10.7 million shares of tesla obviously this poll was manufactured elon knew that hilo knew that people on twitter would tell him to sell because he said that if he sold that he'd have to pay that he'd pay tax and then he'd be paying more taxes and that would be a good thing and but he knew what the answer would be so this was obviously part of his strategy not criticizing it it was kind of like playing a bit of a chess game here with the the proletariat the the dirty unwashed masses whatever you want to call it he knew what this the outcome would be so he played this little game and a lot of people have called him out for this i don't have a problem with it good on him now it should be noted that the options were due to expire by august 2022 if musk didn't exercise them there was a problem though musk would likely exercise additional options that would be expiring next year as well worth about 12.2 million tesla shares but this would mean he owes around 5 billion in federal income taxes on those new shares that he has purchased since posting his twitter poll last month now some people have said oh elon moved to to austin texas because he wanted to avoid paying taxes sorry that isn't how it works before you spout off because you don't like elon just do some research first and you won't look as silly now the tax you pay isn't based on where you live today it's based on where you were at the time that you made that money and because for the majority of the period of time when that money was made he was in california yes he does have to pay tax in california so don't worry it's okay he's not a billionaire that's going to get out of paying he will have to pay his fair share now the ceo's filings suggest that part of the resident must sold his shares was to pay this big tax here now elon musk's current pay package for the ceo role in tesla is a high risk high reward system as i explained before as it provides him with no salary for his tenure as the leader of the company instead his pay package was strictly performance based and it was designed to give him 12 blocks of options if the company met its targets with tesla now valued at one trillion dollars musk targets for tesla's market cap have already been accomplished now this suggests that must succeeding awards would now only be a matter of the company meeting its revenue and profit targets so does this mean that elon isn't fully invested in tesla doesn't think the company will succeed that's why he's selling off 10 of his shares well as you can see his actual share ownership in tesla is increasing so i think selling off 10 but then actually increasing it through exercising these stock options means no he is fully invested in the company i think if you were to do something like mary barra at gm who sold a lot of their shares you know say say for example 40 to 50 plus then you'd have to be asking a question thinking uh is elon saying yeah where this company is not going to go where people think it's going to go nah it's not going to work nah i think i'll i'll i'll spend half you know i'll sell half of my shares i'll do what a trevor milton did at nicola and try and cash out before before everyone this all catches up to me i don't think so i mean obviously it's only 10 so that to me doesn't appear to be the reason it appears as though realistically he has to pay taxes on these options so therefore this is the easiest way to do that now there's a lot of mainstream media articles floating around right now saying how tesla is massively overvalued that they're a car company they're a car company they're a car company and they're worth this much and all the other companies are only worth this much that is all true not about them being overvalued but about them being a car company but i think mainstream media very easily forgets what tesla's long-term goals are and they very easily forget the fact that tesla has achieved the goals they set out to achieve when they actually wrote down their goals more than 10 years ago that's amazing that is insane because only two car companies have succeeded in america over the last hundred years without going bankrupt ford and tesla so to have achieved that is incredible does that mean it's more likely that tesla will actually achieve their other goals i think it does what do those include obviously robo taxis obviously robotics obviously becoming an energy distributor a big solar player solar roofs i mean the list goes on and on eventually potentially selling batteries obviously right now they sell mega packs and power walls there's a whole different range of things that tesla sells whilst yes right now the sales of vehicles make up the lion's share of their profit and revenue that will i believe over the next 10 years change as they develop more products in those other areas so that's one of the key reasons why i am still very heavily invested in tesla i believe by 2030 that will be easily the world's largest automaker and the world's largest company thanks for watching the video look forward to seeing you again on the next one bye
