hey what's going on everyone today is April the 11 2024 we're going to talk about what Charlie Monger just said oh I don't know if he just said I think he passed away but he did say this apparently from benzinga find a way to get your hands on $100,000 even if it means walking everywhere the magic number if you want to be rich $100,000 is the magic number y'all so now got to figure out how to go out and get that $100,000 right here it is 2024 $100,000 it's a magic number if you want to be rich now he talking about walking everywhere are you serious here it is 2024 and so many things are far away outside of City Life and he suspect that you walk everywhere in order for you to get $100,000 is he are you serious look at the comments that came from this one article 573 comments you already know people he must have said someone must have wrote something that made a lot of people upset or at least wanted to chime in on why you need to get $100,000 so I haven't read this article at all so we're going to go through this together and see what it has to say all right so yeah I knew he passed away Charlie M the man who served as legendary investor Warren Buffett's right-hand man for decades died in December just shy of his 100 birthday Buffett credits him as the quote architect of birot haway and refer to refer to him as quote part older brother part loving father Munger is renowned for his insightful and often blunt advice one piece of wisdom that resonates with investors is his take on Building Wealth in the late 1990s during a shareholder meeting Monger said the first $100,000 is a but you got to do it they're quoting stuff that this man said back in the 90s now $100,000 back in the 990s probably was a grip probably was hard to do but is it hard to do today like the access of technology and the devices that we have at our disposal do you think it's really that hard to get $100,000 than what it was in the '90s this statement emphasizes the initial hurdle many face in accumulated savings mongers bluntness highlights the challenge of reaching the critical first $100,000 now to me $100,000 in the '90s may be around like 300,000 350 maybe $400,000 today in today's dollar terms what do you guys think quote I don't care what you have to do he said if it means walking everywhere and not eating anything that wasn't purchased with a coupon find a way to get your hands on $100,000 coupon that's what he said in the 90s how many people are doing couponing today I know there are some people that do couponing to save maybe we need to ask them did they reach $100,000 yet with the coupons the reason behind Munger focused on this initial amount that was the question the power of compounding once you have that base the path to greater wealth becomes smoother that's logical that makes sense the problem is that people can't create a base is that they can only go so far with the amount of time that they have and the amount of Labor that they're able to extrude from their services but it makes sense if everyone had a big base to get started with compounding returns $100,000 can grow significantly over time providing a strong foundation for long-term financial goals but like I said $100,000 is the key of this article you might need to replace that with like $300,000 $350,000 today after that you can ease off the gas a little bit he said Munger made this statement in the mid90s and when it justed for inflation $100,000 back then translate to roughly $200,000 today so I said 300,000 350 however the core principle of his advice remains Timeless many financial advisers today Echo Monger sentiment accumulating the first $100,000 is the hardest and most important let's see what people have to say this is so true I have been maxed out my rth IRA for the past seven years I also rolled a previous company's 401K into it as well I've always invested okay last year I hit that 100,000 Mark at 28 years old since then it has grow to okay that do make any sense keep it up and you won't regret it make the necessary sacrifices now while young to make life so much easier as you age Buffett recommends investing low cost index funds just let time and compounding do their thing es and flows will happen but long term it won't matter be wary of financial advisers who who want to sell your annuities these are the time share of financial products these advisors make commissions on your money so it's highly attractive for them to push imagine giving a company your money and then having them do out in allowance and you can't get and you can't get out of those range because the company makes it virtually impossible okay I agree about $100,000 being the point where you feel like you're becoming well off once you get $100,000 in live an asset it seems like your wealth almost criminally grows larger too fast from stocks and bonds and interest dividends especially if you grow up poor okay I contribute 8% of my income to my 75% employer match 41k since I was 24 I'm 42 now and have 1.3 million set to retire 55 he did that since he was 24 8% of his check was going to his 401k at age 24 a lot of people depending on your circumstance or situation aren't that fortunate though because apparently maybe John had a nice neag laid up for him once he graduated college once he got into his new entry level position in his career to where he could contribute 8% of his check to that 401k now he has 1.3 million doll set aside going to retire at 55 but let's not forget about what happened during the housing crisis that saw many people 401ks go go down drastically that you cannot protect especially when you see the United States printing trillions upon trillions of dollars of debt every month every six months every year the value of your money that you are accumulating is lessening in value so he has $1.3 million right but as the United States continues to print and print and print and continues to dilute the amount of money in Supply that 1.3 million inevitably will lose value because everything else will go up in price so we're talking about what Monger said in the 90s to where $100,000 or something to where we are today to where it translates to2 200,000 and now this gentleman has 1.3 million and if the market crashes again or if another unfortunate event occurs to where we have an economic Calamity a recession a depression that 1.3 million will go drastically down and it will make him think do I need to take this money out and put it in the mattress because I may not get access to it if it's just still stuck in my 401k because they Place restrictions on you in 401K as well you can only withdraw so much and if you draw all of it you get taxed which again will lower your actual amount of your 401k I've always surmised that one is wealthy when their money makes more money than they do by working I like that too in the mid 1990s when he said that it was feasible for middle class to save and invest 25% of their income the cost of living was much more manageable and housing much cheaper so people tended to have more disposable income all you need to do was live modestly to have money put it into savings and Investments but the cost of living and housing have far outpa salar so it's a lot tougher today that's what Evan is trying to say so seem like everyone is in line with him hey get your get your hand on $100,000 put in your 401k put in your retirement account put in your IRA and just let it sit and continue to compound and let it grow especially if you're still young especially just getting your foot wet into your career the advice is sound but for many people there's a tangible block created by fear and already existing insecurity it's easy to talk about about what you should do to create wealth but people who are living paycheck to paycheck just to keep what they have are often going to avoid any kind of Investments what do you guys think about that Americans definitely need to walk more so good luck on that one I live way below my means with no kids and it's almost impossible to get ahead another housing crash has to happen I look at the Sun City model home 5 years ago in South Carolina for $230,000 the same model has now doubled to 460 my salary hasn't doubled in 5 years or even 10 years so it all depends on where you're at in life what do you guys think is this something that you all are trying to do get your hand on the first $100,000 if so how long do you think it's going to take for you to grab a$ 100,000 because a lot of these people that you guys saw in the comments they have accumulated 400,000 1.3 million but they did it from 24 for decades now at some point the the gist of you creating wealth is either for one or two things to me either you're trying to live off that wealth as you get older since you're accumulating it throughout your duration of your younger years or two you're going to pass it down to your legacy right and then give them the opportunity to continue to snowball your wealth that you created that's the max number according to Munger $200,000 in today's dollar terms it all depends on who you are where you are in life and I I already know and you guys should know that there's different demographic demographics here that actually hinders certain people people versus others there's other hurdles that people have to go across that other people didn't have to there some people some families that had a massive leg up to where they're able to get $200,000 real simple and easy and then there's others who been hit been held back have had restrictions have seen doors closed on them to where it's harder for them and their fames to get $100,000 so by no means and am I telling that this is a fair game cuz it's not it's not a fair game and you could question as to whether or not Charlie Munger had to even struggle give me your thoughts makes you maintain the profitability and is always trade different
