Tesla just reported their earnings and results were much worse than expected as you can see here their EPS came in at a $2.90 loss versus a 69 cents expected loss and revenue came in lower than expected as well with the 4.54 billion versus 5.19 billion expected however guidance was strong with deliveries expected in Q2 to be between 990,000 to 100,000 vehicles and this in my opinion is what's keeping the stock somewhat stable right now so will Tesla rally tomorrow well I'll check my crystal ball and let you guys know but in the meantime I'm going to talk about what I heard during the conference call that I listened in on and kind of the highlights from it moving forward here with Tesla so the first thing was that they said that q1 was actually the most complicated quarter for the company in their history and the reason was because they had a lot of moving Parts they were expanding worldwide and there was just a lot of demand that they wanted to meet for the quarter Global expansion of model 3 was kind of a priority and a theme throughout the whole quarter and they also started working on retooling for a Refresh on the model S and X we'll get more into that in a bit now in terms of the cashier they did say that they ended up the quarter with around $2.2 billion in cash which is around $1.5 billion lower than it was in the last quarter this is because they had a lot of expenses as most people know they had a $920 million convertible note that they had to pay off and then they also had other expenses and things like retooling building out the logistics for model 3 and other things like that which contributed to the remainer of that cash balance being lost the kind of idea I got from this was that they spent a lot of money trying to expand model 3 to be delivered overseas however the good news is that they don't expect that these two things will be an issue in the upcoming quarter so these things are behind the company and things should be a lot more smoother in this upcoming quarter in fact one of the biggest things that a lot of the Bears are focusing on was that Tesla posted poor numbers for deliveries in q1 and Tesla did address this and they did say that a lot of it was due to China constraints constraints with bringing the cars into the country and now a lot of that is behind them and they have gotten those things resolved so they expect you to to be a lot better with that in fact they also did state which is's a bold claim here but they expect April to be pretty much their best quarter in the company's history when it comes to deliveries okay now moving on to kind of the individual products here so they did announce that model S and model X will be getting a update here and the biggest thing is that they're going to be increasing the miles to around 370 Mi on the Model S now they actually did say that motor Tren did test drive their Model S recently in the last few days or so and they drove down from San Francisco all the way down to Los Angeles at highway speeds with headwinds on a single charge so that's pretty impressive in my opinion you get some pretty impressive range here on a single charge so even with road trips now with the new update it's going to be less of an issue where you constantly need to recharge because you're running out of battery now in terms of model three they did say that the gross margins for this did decrease to around 20% but they do expect this to increase going forward majority of the orders that are coming through for model 3s are for the long range model and they also said that they're working on the right-hand Drive version to be released very soon and they expect a big spike in countries that are right-and drive with model 3 orders now terms of model y there wasn't too much that they kind of talked about here but they did say that they are kind of trying to figure out where production will be for this either going to be in Nevada or California they haven't decided that yet but everything seems to be on track doesn't seem to be anything in the way of delaying this and the good news is that all the tooling and equipment to build model y out is already ordered and everything does look to be going well in this department in terms of energy they didn't really talk too much about this but they did say that 2019 there's a lot of improvements coming and they do plan to focus more on energy moving forward probably in the next couple of years or so because their Focus right now is kind of developing the cars that takes up a lot of their resources time effort and money and then once they're able to kind of allocate more space for energy that's when they're going to be focusing more on their energy and that kind of summed up what they wanted to cover in the conference call but what Tesla does differently from any other public company out there is that they actually choose questions from retail investors from website called say.com and they actually answered four questions this time here so the first question was around Maxwell Technologies and the question was Will Tesla be able to complete their purchase of Maxwell Technologies what is holding that back and the answer is that pretty much everything is on track for this they expect that this is probably going to close in miday or so they're just going through the kind of the regulatory process that every acquisition has to go through and they don't really see any issues with this going through successfully the next question was around insurance and self-driving and you can see here it says Elon most people when they think of Tesla only see it as an automotive company can you speak on the energy side of the company specifically the road map for when you see the energy side of things really taking off and generating major revenue for the company again I previously just addressed this and essentially what's holding them back is a lack of space and resources for their products what they currently have aimed for is around 5 to 10% of space allocated for things like their power Walls by the end of this year and they expect to grow that over the next coming years yon also said that he expects that the energy portion of the business will ramp up much quicker than the automotive segment and will be a lot more profitable for the company going forward and will account for a good chunk of Tesla's overall Revenue in the future there was also a little bit of mention around solar panels and retrofitting that and he did say that there will be announcement coming up in the next week or so surrounding that so stay tuned for that the third question was around the Tesla semi- production and the question reads when and where will Tesla semi production begin now we know that Tesla announced this Tesla semi a couple years ago now and we haven't really heard much about that since so I'm glad someone asked this question and really the answer is that they are still working on it they do have a prototype that they use in fact they used it for model 3 deliveries for some places and the production is set to begin sometime next year but the location for that is not not set however they do know that the batteries will be produced in Nevada and the last question which I found probably the most interesting one was surrounding an insurance program with Tesla the question reads is Tesla considering creating an insurance program in order to further simplify the ownership experience and to more accurately take into account the safety of driving on autopilot the insurance Market is very unreliable for Tesla owners right now and I think this is a valid concern because a lot of insurance companies do not like insuring you if you have a Tesla especially if you want to use autopilot and that's kind of a big concern that's been surrounding Tesla as a company a lot of investors are staying out of the stock because they don't really see insurance companies changing this policy anytime soon so this was a good question and I think Tesla had the perfect answer to this Elon pretty much turned this industry upside down and he did say that they will be announcing a Tesla insurance program in about a month or so and he said that this program will be much much better than any other insurance program offered out there so that's another huge thing to look for in the next month or so with Tesla so you can see the Catalyst on the bullish side are starting to build up now now that the negative things like q1 deliveries kind of a loss in the quarter all those things are kind of behind us and really one of the funniest parts of the call is when an analyst asked Elon if he prefers if Tesla would be a private or public company everyone knows about that whole debacle about him trying to take Tesla private last year but anyways elon's response that he'd prefer if it was a private company but it's a public company right now and that's just how it's going to be so guys if you enjoyed this video and you found some value in this video here on Tesla's earnings make sure to drop a like hit that subscribe button and leave a comment down
