good morning everyone so in this video i am going to give you an example what is the worst thing that can happen when you own stocks so let's start with the video so as you know, AMD reported earnings yesterday on May 1st and the earnings were decent so I don't know why stock dropped a huge amount I was expecting the stock to drop 10-15% however when I saw the report today it dropped around 20-25% today that is unbelievable that goes to show you when you invest this is one of the things that can happen you can actually lose a lot of money and it just depends on the position that you have in that stock and if you really believe in that stock of course it is going to bring an opportunity to buy more shares i am going to link right here in this screen so AMD in my opinion was oversold today i don't think that it needed to go down because the earnings were not bad at all and let's talk about the earnings i'm going to read an article that explains the earnings and how much either gained or lost in revenue let's see so in this article it says that AMD released it's earnings reports after the closing bell posting adjusted losses of 4 cents per share or 38 million on 984 millions in revenue so what that means is that they are still not very profitable and i talked that about that video that they were losing money because the CEO that they had previously left the company in a huge mess now let's continue reading the article the analysts had been looking for losses of 4 cents per share on 984.38 million in revenue so basically what that means the analysts had been looking for 4 cents to lose in these earnings and they lost 4 cents on revenue side they were actually almost the same 984 millions in revenue for this quarter now you gotta keep in mind Ryzen 7 is the highest end CPUs so they basically they were not on sale for the whole quarter and they were only on sale for 4 weeks so technically most of the numbers that they did in this quarter the new product was barely included now keep in mind that last year in 2016 AMD had losses of 12 cents now it's only 4 cents so they are doing a better job this year in terms of EPS im going to read an statement that Lisa Su mentioned on the earning call let's take a look at what she said she said we achieved 18 percent year over year renueve growth driven by strong demans for our high perofmance Ryzen CPUs we are position for solid revenue growth and margin expansion opportunities as you know AMD competes with Intel in the CPU which is basically a motherboard where you put a it is not a motherboard!
it is a chip that you put in the motherboard i got confused! so you put that chip which is a high end chip that basically sells in a lower price i was reading a lot of benchmarks and the CPUs are actually really good except with one thing they are not very good for gaming at this moment however they have released different software updates and it has improved the gaming now keep in mind this is the high end cpus specially because the CPUs that they are actually selling are not cheap at all however they are giving you the same performance that Intel chip is selling and at the same time for low price and of course we have to wait for the gaming chip that is coming out during the summer now what hurt AMD was the guidance i think the guidance that Lisa Su said was a little bit disappointing so in that aspect the stock deserved to lose some value however from all the years that i have been trading i did not see this 25% all of a sudden and i was expecting like i mentioned earlier anywhere between 10-15% drop for this stock now let's read on the guidance so you can get an idea what i am talking about AMD is projecting revenue growth of 12% year over year in Q2 forecast gross margin of only 33% and that is basically where the main problem came because from the first quarter they had a gross margin of 34% now they are scaling back to 33% now what investors think is that AMD is going to face a little bit of a challenge because Intel is going to come with a cheaper chip so they can compete like I said earlier I did a video in that video i made an statement that AMD was going to go up to $16-$18 during the summer that was depending in these quarter earnings the way i see it is because this stock did not go as high as most people would think it would go that is one of the reasons why it went down so much however that opinion that i had between $16-18 is gone i'm going to keep that position because no one has made money by panicking now in my opinion i have seen worse quarters and some of the stocks that i have bought in the past have gone up which is kind of weird and now some of the earnings that i have seen lately those stocks have posted really good earnings and the stock still went down and like i mentioned earlier in the top 5 stocks to buy in may i said skyworks solutions had a good earnings quarter and still went down and the reason why skyworks solution went down because it had a huge run at that moment so the stock sometimes is going to pull back some of the stock where i have position like facebook i think it is going to pul back at some point so what you can do at that moment if you think that earnings are not going to be strong as it is heading you can sell some position to minimize the risks now of course i did not have a lot of position in AMD so i was thinking of getting lot of position in AMD and then after the earnings maybe get another position in AMD now this one is going to be a little bit tricky im going to wait for the stock to settle down at this moment you need to wait at least a week or two weeks to see what is happening with AMD but i think the stock is going to be fine so that price of $16-18 is gone however i do think the stock is going to recover i think the price target is going to be somewhere between $11-12 for the positive and next quarter earning is where they will have better profits there are a lot of positives.
First Ryzen 7 sales will be implemented into the 2nd quarter results and then we are taking into account Ryzen 5 which is a cheaper chip for users and we might be able to see how the graphics chip is selling now should you buy now the stock that is really cheap if you have not gotten any position? that might be one of the questions that you might ask yourself and to be honest that is one of the questions that you can think by yourself however one thing that i am going to do i am going to let the stock settle and i might get a little position now that the stock has gone down a lot i now i would be lying if i did not see the stock going down more so i was doing a lot of research in one of the websites to calculate to see how much money was going to be lost between 10-15% I am going to leave a link in the video description so next time when an earning calls you know it is going to happen you can play around in case you think the stock is going to go up you can say that stock is gonna go up and calculate the stock position that i have by +5% or -5% depending on what you think the stock is gonna do after earnings now of course not everything is bad i'm gonna show you one of the good reports that is saying that AMD is taking marketshare from Intel for the first time in about 10 years i think let me show you the article AMD has gained 2.2 CPU market share in the first quarter of 2017 im going to show you how Intel has dominated AMD since 2006 as you see in this graph it is the complete opposite im going to say this is the best news and has been one of the best news AMD has done in the last few years because they have not gained anything on Intel since 2014 that is with the highest end CPUs now we are going to take a look on how they will gain market share in the 2nd quarter report and remember this is just a lesson when a stock it has grown a really huge amount because AMD was selling for $3.50 a year ago and if you end up selling position in AMD just make sure to get this as a lesson you are never to win 100% of the trades do not forget that is what happens in the stock market sometimes you are never to win 100% of your investments that is never going to happen that is going to be everything for the video Please leave a comments in the section below to get an idea if you have the AMD stock if you end up selling it or at what point are you planning to purchase the stock if that is you plan like i mentioned early i am going to keep the shares in AMD stock and i am going to re-evaluate in a couple of weeks to see if it is a good value to get more shares Subscribe to the financial information and i am going to bring you a video about Activision Blizzard stock after earnings so I am going to put it on Friday or Saturday one of those days .
In the meantime, do not get discouraged that happens to everyone that losing money is not the end of the world. Have an excellent day and take care my friends.
