If you've seen the movie "The Big Short," you surely remember the main character, Michael Byrne. And today in this video, I'm going to tell you what he's currently investing in. So stay until the end because I'm sure you'll like it. Hey everyone, I'm Gustavo Henrique, and today I'm here to talk to you a little more about Michael Byrne's investment portfolio.
So, before we get to the video, leave your like, subscribe to the channel, and click the bell. Without further ado, let's talk a little more about Michael Byrne's current investments. This video discusses his biggest investments, his portfolio, and to give you some context and explain a little better who Michael Byrne is.
For those of you who haven't seen "The Big Short," you might be a little lost, but Michael Byrne is a manager, a great American investor who really gained a lot of prominence for having predicted the 2008 housing bubble. In 2008, he also gained even more prominence after the movie "The Big Short," in which he 's the main character, played by Christian Bale.
That movie gave him a lot of exposure, and I even made a video about it, which many people didn't understand, I don't know, because it deals with the financial market and everything else. So it's worth watching the video about "The Big Short," but obviously, watch the movie first, because you see the video, you understand?
The movie is very sad, you know? One last very interesting point: in 2008, during the 2008 crisis, he had a fund called Simon Caption, the fund represented in the movie "Coco." However, he ended up closing this fund and later reopened it under the name SE ON Asset Management, which is essentially the same thing.
However, it's important to mention this because that's where we're getting the largest positions from. As a fund, it has to report its positions, what it's investing in, and that's why we can find out the best positions Micael Borges has today. So, without further ado, I'll say that the nine largest positions...
This is the portfolio of one of the biggest investors we're opening up, so in the same position as Michael Berg, you see, his fungus is Taylor Branch, which gave a 2.76 percent share of the total portfolio, and it's also an American retail company, right? We're talking about selling mainly suits and men's products in general – suits, ties, bleeds, shirts, everything.
So, that's Taylor Branch. In eighth position, we have Taylor Branch, valued at approximately $1 billion. It faces several problems related to digital innovation; its online presence is very weak, and this ends up harming its business. But the portfolio is confident, with 6.11 percent of the fund in penny stocks.
It's a kind of, let's say, Kalunga of the United States, no. This company sells mainly products related to art and stationery. So, this is Taylor Branch, also a very controversial position, like almost all of Michael Berg's positions. In seventh position, we have Discovery with 7.9 percent of the fund, and Discovery is the one you should see.
Okay, thinking about the Discovery Channel, another very large American media conglomerate, in third place we have Boeing, right? With a 10.39 percent stake in the fund, and it's still a significant part. Despite being one of the largest American companies, a symbol of American innovation, it's going through several problems right now, including governance issues.
We also have the problem related to the Boeing 737 Max, which had several problems, and the coronavirus crisis we're currently experiencing, which is greatly harming the aviation sector, and Boeing... And in fifth place, with 11.16 percent of Michael Borges' investment, we have Maistra Technology, which is basically a company that produces equipment and things related to space technology.
So it sells satellites, radars, and things like that. So, a company in a very different field, isn't it? Usually we hear about investors who invest in this segment, and Michael Berry's portfolio is very different from most managers, and that's why it 's quite significant in MacTechnology. The fourth investment by Michael Berry is none other than Facebook, with 11.72 percent of the portfolio.
Despite having a gigantic position, it's also very controversial, especially at this moment when, for several years, we've seen many advertisers announcing they're going to stop advertising. They're saying they're going to stop and report Facebook, and this tends to greatly reduce Facebook's revenue, which basically comes from advertising.
So it's going through a very turbulent time with the issue of data leaks. Facebook, with 11.72 percent of the investment portfolio, is also a very large position. Now, moving on to our top 3, the three largest investments, the three largest companies with participation in the investment portfolio, we have Crow, exactly.
It has 11.70 percent of the fund's total assets. And an interesting point about this investment is that the asset is in a company from a sector that isn't very common. We don't usually see large investors investing in wireless technologies. The company basically focuses entirely on advanced wireless technologies, mainly for products related to the military, for the ten contracts with the American government.
So this company has a very large share in Michael Berry's investment portfolio. It's from a sector we rarely hear about. My second largest holding in Michael Berry's portfolio is Jack-in-the-Box, which is nothing more than an American fast-food chain that even had operations here in Brazil but ended up selling its operations to Bob's.
The company is really a true gem, and it has a market value of approximately 1.5 billion dollars. So Michael likes to invest in small companies and has a very significant share in his portfolio in Jack- in-the-Box, 12.21 percent of the fund is in this American fast-food chain, much smaller than other clients like KFT, or we also have...
McDonald's or Burger King, so you see, Jack in the Box is a smaller company than those others, and Michael Berry is involved and has a significant stake in it. The company also has a significant stake in his fund, and the largest position in Michael Berry's portfolio is Games Co-op. It represents 17.802 % of the fund, and this is a very controversial position within the fund, and certainly the most controversial position in his investment fund.
Because GameStop, for those who do n't know, is an American store that sells games, right? It's a physical store, with many locations in the United States, where you can buy PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or whatever games. Something that 's changing a lot in this video game industry is that the next PlayStation, the PlayStation 5, will have a version without a disc drive.
So you 'll go to the PlayStation Store and, as I said, you won't need to go to a physical store to buy your game and put it in your PlayStation, something that was very common a while ago. You simply buy your game online and start playing right away. This changes the whole dynamic of the sector, and GameStop ends up falling a bit behind, right?
It ended up being an intermediary, and nowadays it may lose its usefulness since these video game companies, like Microsoft with Xbox, can sell the game directly to the consumer. Besides this, we see a very big change in the sector. We don't really know how GameStop itself will behave, so this ends up hurting the long-term visibility of this company.
Will it really cease to exist? Will it continue with its current business model and simply have several physical stores spread across the United States? It's very difficult, right? That's why the stock is really falling quite a bit. GameStop's stock has been doing very badly in recent years. But let's see.
But what I see is that he's confident. He's different from everyone else. We should consider his very concentrated positions; he also has a very concentrated investment portfolio. So, we have nine positions representing a very large portfolio, and only 8.3 percent remains. So it really is a very concentrated portfolio with very large companies.
Controversial, right? So that was today's video, folks. I'd like to talk a little more about Michael Bay's current portfolio. For those of you who watched the movie and want to know what he's doing with his life these days, he's investing in this controversial company. That's exactly what he's doing.
So I hope you enjoyed it. If you liked it, leave your like here, subscribe to the channel, and click the bell so you're always the first to know when it's saved again. And that's it. Next video... and thanks!
