Uh, and what I'm going to be doing today is I'm going to be looking at uh my Bitcoin Visa debit card that I've gotten from BitWala.
And what this is is it's basically a prepaid Visa card um that you fund exclusively with Bitcoin. Um, so I'm just going to show you how it works um and talk a little bit about um my experience with it so far. Okay. So, I'll walk you through. I'll show you what my what's going on on my screen right now.
Um, so I'm going to go to bitala uh bitwa.la. Once I get there, I'm going to log into an account I already have. So, you'll have to set this up on your own. You just sign up. It'll walk you through everything. Once I am logged in on the left hand side of the screen, uh you can see the second icon down there's a little card.
So I'm going to click on that. And here you can see any previous transactions and you also have the option to top up your card, which is what I'm going to do right now. Um now this card is exclusively in euros, but that doesn't mean that you can't spend it elsewhere. There are just fees associated with international usage.
So, uh, I'll break down those a little bit later on. So, what I'm going to do right now is I'm going to top it up with €75. I'm just going to hit the top off button here. All right. And this is going to bring me to a screen where I can now use my phone and send Bitcoin to the QR code that is on the screen.
So, I'm going to do that right now. Uh, today I am using Copay. I don't know if you can see that. Doesn't matter. You know what it is. Um, and What I'm going to do is I'm going to scan that QR code on the screen. Uh it already it automatically uh tells me the amount that I need to send. So I just need to hit the send button.
I confirm it. And once this has gone through on here on my screen, it also pops up that uh it has been received. Uh so here on the screen it says in progress. It says there's a €75 top up happening. Um this will not be instantaneous. Uh so I will get an email notification later on today when that money is officially in my account and I can use it.
Um, so we'll come back to this video later on in the day when I get that notification and I'm going to take out some Hong Kong dollars from an ATM here. All right, see you in a bit. Graduation telling them you probably made it. Then it's back to your vacation bump in California in your station wagon that you borrow from your older neighbors.
Left a note that you would take it. All right, so I got my confirmation email from Bitwala saying that my account has been topped up. It looks a little something like this. Uh now I'm just going to use my card on an ATM here and use my preassigned pin uh to take out some cash. Uh this cash actually is from a friend of mine.
He knows I'm into Bitcoin and he sent me a nice wedding gift. So thanks to Will. Okay, so there's a few things to know about this card. There are fees. um it is only denominated in euros. So that comes with a few caveats. Um now here's a list of the fees that I have to deal with. Um I am Canadian so I'm dealing in Canadian dollars already.
Um but I am in Hong Kong so I'm taking out Hong Kong dollars. So I'm having to deal with one a top up fee which isn't too bad. It's about half a percent. Two, I'm dealing with a 4x conversion fee, which means I'm converting from euros to Hong Kong dollars currently, which is 3%. All right. And third, I just used an international ATM, which carries a fee of €2.75.
So, if you do not know what you're doing, you can get dinged by a lot of fees here. So, you got to be careful. So, that begs the question, who is this card for? All right. So, I see two possibilities as to who this card might be meant for as far as what I'm concerned. Um, one, you could be somebody living in the Euro zone that is a Bitcoin fanatic.
Uh, in that case, you are not paying any fees for basic transactions for purchasing items. Um, two, you could be an international traveler who wants a just in case card. And for me, I think that's what I'm going to use this for. If my cards get cancelled or put on hold because of the different countries that I'm visiting, then I have this Bitcoin Visa debit card that I can use.
It will not be placed on hold because it is a prepaid card. So, I can use it as a a last resort. And that's basically what I'm going to be doing with it. Um, other than that, if you want to experiment with it, it's worth a try. That's that's for sure. Um, now since I've taken out this money that was a wedding gift, I should probably do something responsible with it, like I don't know, buy furniture or something for my house or Disneyland.
