Hello friends, welcome back. I'm very excited because the data has just been released and we can now take a look at Warren Buffet's portfolio for 2021. Although he needs no introduction, Warren Buffett is perhaps the world's greatest investor. His net worth is around $85 billion and he started investing at the tender age of 11.
So , in this video, we'll take a look at the entire Berkshire Hathaway portfolio , including all the latest changes made to the portfolio for 2021. And I'll also include some very interesting performance data about the portfolio. Just keep in mind, this is just data on their US stock holdings. Therefore, it will not include things like property, bonds, gold, or crypto.
Although they don't keep them in their portfolio anyway. As always , if you find anything useful in this video , be sure to like it. This would be greatly appreciated. Okay, then sit comfortably. Here is Warren Buffett 's stock portfolio for 2021. Okay, so this is what we're going to look at next. We will first look directly at Warren Buffett's portfolio for 2021.
Then we will look at recent changes. And often it's even more important because you can see what they're buying , what they're selling , where they're investing , and then we'll finish with some information about the portfolio's performance. So, drum roll please. Here is Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio for 2021.
And as you can see , first, this portfolio is now worth about 270 billion and it's made up of 47 different positions. Now, it is ranked from left to right. That is, number one, number two, number three, number four, not going down the list here. And also note that 85% of this portfolio is made up of just the top 10 positions.
Warren Buffett has said many times that he is not a big fan of diversification. They prefer to find a few good companies and then invest most of their money in them. So what conclusions can we draw ? Well, now it is seen that the number one position, which is Apple, is about 50% of the portfolio. So if anything happens to Apple , this portfolio will take a huge hit.
Now if you want to spend more time on this, feel free to pause the video. But now I'm going to add something to the portfolio that most people forget and that is Berkshire Hathaway's cash position and cash equivalents. Look at this. So now I've added cash and cash equivalents and see how that changes the portfolio.
So now the total value is 415 billion and the largest position is cash and look what that has done to his position in Apple. It's now down to less than a third and for me it completely changes the dynamics of the portfolio and according to CNBC his cash position is around 145 billion and I believe that's a record high cash position for the company.
Now, when it comes to portfolios, the ideal thing to look at would be net worth because every time you add another piece to the portfolio, you get the real picture. So , ideally, we would have the property, the goods, everything that they own. Then you can actually see where the money is going. And you can see how much it changes this portfolio by just adding the cash position.
A little more analysis of the cash position. So this is Berkshire Hathaway's cash position going back a few years and starting around 2019 for me , you can see that they're not really buying a lot and the cash position is building up and now it's near record highs. So that tells me a lot about what he thinks about the economy and I know he likes to buy stocks when they are at a discount , not at their highest levels.
So this time 85% of the portfolio was in the top 10. These are just the top 10 companies and then I've collected everything else. So you can see that most of this portfolio is in the top 10. I recently did Ray Dalio's Bridgewater Associates portfolio and you can see it's made 427. There were various positions and hundreds of these were micro positions.
In fact, I could n't even list them because it was crashing the computer. This is Kevin O'Leary's portfolio from Shark Tank, his O.S. Shares Investment Advisor. And again, 260 different positions. And I often wonder , how do they manage these hundreds of different micro positions ? So, to me, it's very refreshing that one of the world's greatest investors likes to keep things simple.
The stock market is a device for transferring money from impatient to patient people. Okay, so now it's time to take a look at the latest changes and often this is the most valuable part because you can see his thought process. Where is he investing the money ? Where is he getting the money from ? What is he buying and what is he selling?
Let's take a look. First of all, what has he sold? This is the list. So , we can see Financial Services Group, JPMorgan Chase, and another bank. Clearly this financial services position is being downgraded here , Barrick Gold. So, this was a purchase a few quarters ago and it was a very strange purchase because it was a very small position anyway.
In the next quarter he reduced it and now he has sold it completely. Therefore, it seems quite useless. And to me, it looks like a PR stunt because he got himself and the company into the press everywhere. And then last quarter, he bought some pharmaceutical companies , which I'll talk about in a second, but it's Pfizer , which he's decided to close.
Next, the situations he has mitigated. And this is in line with their size in the portfolio. So, you can see that he reduced his largest position, Apple, by 6%. Um, US Bank Corporation is a minor thing. General Motors down 10%. Wells Fargo, this is probably the big one on this page, down 59% , Snow Energy down about 30%, and then Liberty Latin America down 10%.
And these are the companies he has invested money in. So, we can see the top three. These are his pharmaceutical positions that were relatively new and he has grown them to 20%, 30% and in Kroger to 10%, 34% and then 117%. T- Mobile growth. And these are completely new situations for Warren Buffett.
The big deal for this quarter is the $ 8.6 billion in Verizon, $ 4 billion in Chevron purchases, $ 500 million in Marsh & McLennan , and $ 364 million in SSP Group. So stay tuned because I will probably make a separate video that will explain these different new situations in more detail. Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.
And let's finish with the performance data of this portfolio. First of all , we have a quarterly chart. And it goes back to the fourth quarter of 2018. So, what can we say here ? Well, in true Warren Buffett style. He has consistent growth every quarter. Obviously, we had this big drop and almost everything went down because of the pandemic in the first quarter of 2020 , but from there there was quite strong growth and then new highs were set in the fourth quarter of 2020.
And then we have performance relative to the S&P 500. So, we will look at the 5-year , three-year, and one-year charts. This purple, top line is the S&P. The blue line below is Berkshire Hathaway. You can see that the S&P has been down a little less than 100% in five years. Warren Buffett got 101%. So it remained almost the same in five years.
In three years you can see that they have started to come down. The S&P rose 40% and Warren Buffett rose 33%. And as we get closer, this is a year of performance, now there's a really big difference. The S&P has gained 16% while Berkshire Hathaway has gained only 7.65%. So the S&P is twice as big as Berkshire Hathaway, which is a fairly large difference.
Only buy something you would be happy to keep for 10 years even if the market closes. So that's it, friends. This was a deep look at Warren Buffett's stock portfolio for 2021. It is interesting to see that they are maintaining a record high cash position. I think he's perfectly willing to be greedy when others are scared.
Their largest purchase was in Verizon for $8.6 billion. He increased all of his pharmaceutical positions except Pfizer , which he sold. He's clearly not very happy with Wells Fargo. And his portfolio's performance is very similar to the S&P. However, recently, it has now started falling down. So, a lot has been covered and I hope it has been useful for you.
Actually, all I need is a favor. If you found anything useful in the video, be sure to give it a like. This would be greatly yet , wo n't want to miss. Okay, goodbye friend.
