What's the difference between investing in Bitcoin and investing in a stock that could go down and reach 0 cents or zero shares? Yes, many people think, "Hey, I say people are buying Bitcoin because they think it will go up," and they say, "Well, people do that with stocks too," and I agree they do, but in many cases they are wrong to do so.
I mean, it's part of the speculative mania that the world is created where people are just buying symbols without any consideration for the underlying company or its prospects as a business. This speculative fever was unleashed by the internet, and the epitome of it is cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
But you need to look at what a stock is. A stock is an operational business. And why should you buy a stock? Well, because you want to own a part of that business. Because it's a business that makes a profit, and the owner gets the profits. When you buy a stock, when you buy a part of a stock, you're not buying the whole company; you 're only buying a part of it.
But you also get a small piece of those profits, which could be huge. You're talking about a strong company, in a $500, the profits are really big. You're entitled to a share. Part of those profits, so if the company pays dividends, you receive some of that money as a shareholder, or if they don't pay dividends, if they just use their income to buy back shares, that causes the share price to rise and you own some of those shares.
So you have an interest in the success of an operating company, you invest in shares where you think the company is reasonably valued or undervalued, and you're making a small bet on the future prospects of that business. Will they continue to make money, will they make more money, or will they increase their dividends?
But you know, you're buying something real, so it's not just about growth, right? I can buy shares of a company and it never needs to increase if they pay me dividends every year. The dividend is a good return. Maybe a stock pays a living of seven to eight percent, which is a good return on your investment each year to get that cash flow.
So Bitcoin, on the other hand, you're not buying anything, you're just buying that digital token, which doesn't generate gains that can be shared with you; it just stays there on the blockchain and we pass it on. But it doesn't do anything, therefore the only way you can make money with Bitcoin is...
If someone buys from you at a higher price, that's not the case with stocks. Of course, nobody needs to buy stocks because the company can buy back its own shares with the income it has now. Let's say you buy a stock of a company that has no income. Well, the company could go to zero; it's very speculative right now.
Maybe you 're buying a stock that's just starting out; they've been around for a while and are losing money now. But you think that in the future they'll start making money, and it will just take a little time. Well, maybe that will pay off, but if they never make money and you don't sell, you've lost all your money, right?
In the same way, you could lose all your money in Bitcoin, but the difference is that with Bitcoin, you're sure you'll lose all your money if you don't sell. But when you buy stocks, you still might not do it because you might be right; in fact, the company might succeed, generate profits, pay dividends, but it's not very different from Bitcoin.
As people say, people in the real estate business buy properties because they think they'll go up, and that's true, but they also collect rent. You have a property that you rent out; it doesn't need to go up; you just receive your rent, it's cash flow, you make money. Or you buy real estate for personal use; you own a property and now you don't need to pay rent to someone else.
This property is mine; I could develop it, I could cultivate it, I can explore whatever I want, use it for whatever I can. It's a property that has utility, that has value. I mean, you need shelter, everyone needs a place to live. But again, I said that nobody needs Bitcoin for anything except to try to make more money, right?
