Monday October 17 2016 Mona I'd like to uh give you an update early update on the markets and what's going on it's uh around 10 a.m London uh so 5 a.m and in the US or the Eastern Standard Time at least so what have we got this morning um the Dow is down about 42 points or a quarter of a percent eighteen thousand ninety seven so last week we tested we did break eighteen thousand uh we got down to 17 950 with thereabouts but the the really key level is 17 900 and above there's very good resistance you know around 18 300 I would say so stock market really not going anywhere and I know we're down today uh gold uh got up to 1256 earlier today we're now 12 50 to 80.
so that's up uh a little bit on 6 p.m New York Friday it's up about just under a dollar silver is down slightly three cents at 17 40 roughly uh the high has been 1749 so um that's what's going on here uh currencies are fairly steady the pound is down slightly at 121.69 uh that's down 18 Pips we did get down to 121.41 so still uh under under pressure the pound um this morning uh Bond markets uh looking at the UK uh guilt yields um those are have been spiking higher uh recently and today we're up again uh the 10-year guilt is now at 119 and it's already up 10 basis points on the day we got up above 120 uh the uh two-year deal yield is up two at 23.
I think we got up to 0.25 this morning earlier and the reason it's important to look at that two-year yield is that the the bank of Ingham base rate uh was caught uh a few about six weeks ago I think from half a percent to a quarter of a percent or 0.25 basis points and that is usually expected to be at the same level or if anything below the two-year guilt yields and right now it looks like the two-year deal yield is even moving up above that base rate which is telling uh you know the bank of England that the markets don't believe you can keep that rate at 0.25 so when the bank of England comes out and says oh we're going to cut rates to zero um you know that that's quite it's difficult when you see what's happening to the two-year guilt yield so just wanted to cover that uh us uh treasuries let's have a look see what they're doing they're fairly uh steady from Friday's close they haven't moved what else is there you know in the news uh let's see here there's of course a lot of news about what's going on in the you know campaign for the election of the president uh there's a lot of mud slinging the uh zero Hedges reporting that Wikileaks activates contingency plan after unknown State party Cuts Julian assange's internet connection so it looks like someone's not happy with the wiki leaks uh publishing all these uh emails of John podesta who's I he runs uh Hillary Clinton's campaign so let's have a look here at Bitcoin see how we're doing in Bitcoin Bitcoin uh trading around 640 so I still look for that 660 level but um we moved up well uh last week but we kind of stabilized for now 640 Bitcoin so yeah not much to report so far uh this morning um so as I leave here uh gold 1253 up a dollar Dow down 50 18 089 s p down six at 21 26.
