But now, let's dive directly into it. Everything started just a couple of days with the following video. It's very short, like 25 seconds, but have a look. 1% on August 13th, 2% in September of last year, 3% in November, and we crossed 4% in early April. But I do think we're going to slow down our pace of buying.
I'm not sure we want to get to 5% too quickly. We're deciding perhaps we want to accumulate at somewhat slower pace uh because there's other things to be doing in crypto right now. So as you can see at the presentation Tom Lee said, "Hey, you know what? Our goal is to acquire 5% Ethereum, right?" And this goal actually we set for very very far in the future.
However, we are so good in raising money and buying Ethereum that we went to this goal much faster and if we continue like that, then we will be there by the summer. And actually we don't need that, right? And obviously then they decided, "You know what? We will essentially slower the purchase." And he said one more thing because there's other things to do in crypto.
And I was thinking with the team like what is going on there, okay? What is the reasons why he actually does that, right? And how he can become a billionaire because his compensation packages are tied to a higher price of Bitmain. We will talk about this in in huge detail here today. Now, let's talk about the three reasons why they do this, okay?
Number one reason could be that they expect lower prices for the market and therefore another dip, so they slow it a little bit down to maybe buy cheaper a little bit later or to even form a bottom with a huge Ethereum purchase, okay? That's number one. Second, they expect a raise in Ethereum price and they want to lower the sales pressure on Bitmain because every single time they issue more shares, it pressures Bitmain stock and Bitmain stock is lower and lower and they need to raise more and you know, Tom Lee is much farther from his compensation later on, okay?
And the reason number three is because maybe they really want to create another layer of treasury, right? He said like there's other things to do in crypto. Now let's talk about that. Well, if they really want to do something in crypto, what could it be? Could it be that they add for example Solana to their treasuries because you can also stake Solana.
Solana stakes is actually rewards double the amount of Ethereum that would give even bigger cash flow. And if they tap into the network of Solana holders, that would bring a lot of buyers of Bitmain as well, okay? And maybe is the mix of all three. But I want to talk about the most important part. What this change actually does with Bitmain, okay?
So, I think it's genius because in the end of the day, I really believe that Tom Lee thinks that with the summer we will have one of the biggest turnarounds in crypto. And when he has already this kind of big pile and will reach the goal by the end of the year, why in addition we need to go there that fast?
We will reach that goal and people are convinced that we are doing well if Ethereum goes higher. So, why add this extra pressure? And then I was thinking, well, but what would be the motivation for that? Well, there's a couple of things, okay? First of all, Tom Lee knows how the market goes, okay? He knows that he can also a little bit steer the whole narrative if he buys Ethereum, Ethereum can go higher.
If you know, Ethereum have like a big dump, he can put a lot of money form the bottom for Ethereum. But one of his biggest parts of his compensation is when Bitmain stock goes higher. More investors are interested in a stock when it goes higher, right? So, all of these things are making sense now. So, let's talk about his compensation first.
His compensation is essentially tied to two things. First, he gets $35 million just like that, okay? So, I think it's like $15 million directly that he got already and the rest he gets essentially over a period of 5 years, right? That's essentially this compensation as the executive chairman, the founder of the next generation of Bitmain how we have it today, okay?
So, that's number one, okay? So, he has like a base salary, but he also gets over 4.5 million dollars in shares if the price will reach 125 dollars. So, if anybody, he's the most motivated to bring the stock higher, right? I mean we will be all very happy, right? If the stock price will be at 125 because that would bring the market cap also higher, which is also one of the parts of his performance compensation, the similar compensation that Elon Musk has for example at Tesla where they say like okay, we when you reach this, this, and this, you get so much money, okay?
So, actually he also, and this is I I couldn't find some concrete information, but apparently he gets also 5% of the equity of Bitmain as call option. So, imagine he has 5% of a company that is like let's say, you know, 50 billion dollars. So, he will become billionaire if the stock goes higher. So, he is the number one motivated guy to have Bitmain shares higher.
So, I think how I imagine that he sits around with his team and says, "Okay, guys, what what is our non-negotiables, right? Our non-negotiables is we need to buy more Ethereum. So, that's number one, right? We also want the stock go higher, that's number two, and number three, we want to make sure we do this in the most efficient way you know, understanding the markets, you know, having the advisor Tom March who gets us a little bit of understanding where the bottoms are and so on and so forth, where crypto can go and so on.
So, essentially they are thinking, "Okay, how much we can still buy to reach our goal for let's say marketing purposes because to be honest, if they have four or five, doesn't really matter. Just like we reached our goal, right? So, that's number one. So, we can reach there by buying about like 25,000 Ethereum per week.
That would give us around like 5% of Ethereum by the end of the year or sometimes in this year, okay? So, that's number one. Number two, the stock is under pressure because many, even I get so many emails and messages and saying like, "Hey, Danny, I not concerned about the dilution and so on." If that stays that way, if we reduce our purchases from 100,000 Ethereum to 25,000 Ethereum per week, we will not dilute by 97% like we would do but at buying at the pace of 100,000 Ethereum per week, we would actually reduce the dilution to only around like 25.
So, reduce it to 1/4 of the dilution. That means 1/4 of the selling pressure on the stock of Bitmain. And combine that with a raising Ethereum and you have an absolute monster because think about it. Multiple times in the past, Bitmain just shoot up like 100, 150% in very short time, like 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 1 month, right?
And that was well I, you know, they are selling crazy amount of shares every time. And now comes the cherry on the cake even. Now, imagine they are staking so much Ethereum that they get roughly about like $1 million per day, they could almost finance the purchase of more Ethereum just by the staking rewards.
And this is brilliant because that would mean that essentially we have zero dilution, okay? We go higher and the stock explodes like you have never seen before. Okay, this will create such a buying pressure on the stock that it can go from 20 to 100 very, very fast. Remember, Tom Lee needs 125 or 250, somewhere in between there, or a market cap of 25 billion dollars or 50 billion dollars.
Okay, the compensation package is tied to those goals. Now, there's one more thing, okay? Now, imagine that they start also to buy back shares. They still have 700 million dollars in the bank. So, what if they start also to buy back shares. Let's say, imagine the next week they come out and say like, "You know what?
Actually, we bought 25,000 Ethereum and we bought back, I don't know, X amount of shares, okay? We used like 100 million to buy back shares." You know how this psychologically would turn in terms of the story of Bitmain? That would be the biggest change since the inception of the Bitmain that we see today.
And that's why I think that's a such a brilliant move. Remember, the Bitmain team is heavily heavily heavily incentivized to bring the stock price higher and higher. That's I think that's the one of the most amazing compensation package. Tom Lee would become a billionaire. We will become millionaires, hopefully, depending on how much stocks you have.
