Hi, my name is Mary. I love learning about personal finance and I'm bringing you along on the journey. For today's video, I wanted to talk about all things advices from investors themselves. Now, we will usually hear very famous names like Warren Buffett and I actually wanted to bring in something different or let us say someone different.
A different kind of investor you might not know exactly who he is, but I still think his advices are fantastic. Uh and I'm precisely Peter Lynch. Peter Lynch was one of the greatest investors ever to exist. Um he actually managed the Magellan mutual fund from, if I'm not mistaken, 1970 until like 1990 1990.
So, yeah, he managed that fund for a very long time and that fund actually had crazy amount of returns. 29% of annual returns and he delivered incredible results. So, if Peter had something to say about investments, I'm listening and I think you should be listening as well. Now, I selected three advices that are perfect for any person to listen to.
They are very easy to understand and in my opinion, they are golden. They are the kind of advice you should definitely be paying attention to. All right? Now, the first advice and it's actually one of my favorites because you don't really think about it too much and it's simple but kind of like it it goes unnoticed if you don't pay attention, which is invest in what you know.
And I really like this advice because it can be as simple as that. Now, what Peter detected is that anywhere you go, anything you touch on, any person you meet represents an opportunity, represents money, represents revenue. All right? Now, we know that nine times out of 10, this probably does not represent an opportunity or does not represent revenue.
But we also know that sometimes we are looking at things that could be incredibly valuable, but we don't really pay attention to. And then somebody does, and they make a huge profit of it, and we're like, "Oh my gosh, damn it, if I would have only known about that." So, essentially Peter defended that let's say you are having a conversation with friends, and somebody's using is using like everybody's using a specific app, or um they are specifically visiting a very um small coffee shop in your hometown, or they're using a specific product, like those things are hidden opportunities that if you pay attention to them, you can as well get a grasp and um get your foot in the door uh in this very small everyday life situations.
Now, I'm thinking to myself, is there some sort of product that I think maybe could be an a hidden opportunity? Um I don't know. Is it Is it right now, since we are like, you know, in AI era and stuff like that? But I think simple things that resolve issues, like if you are resolving someone some someone issue, like you already winning.
I think, you know, maybe if I think about Scrub Daddy. Scrub Daddy is actually one of my favorite brands, and I've I have a Scrub Daddy. Um and I remember when they went onto Shark Tank, and they presented the product, and um probably the sharks thought, "This is just another cleaning sponge." And actually, no.
Um it was an actual like very strong cleaning sponge and now they are incredibly profitable. Uh but see it's it's like an everyday product but it's actually very much valuable. You know, I can give another idea. Maybe I'm giving a free idea here, but I usually if I'm doing the dishes uh I it's very hard to remove fat from like plastic Tupperwares.
I know we're not supposed to use plastic, but I'll just use this example. It's super hard to remove fat out of plastic Tupperwares. So, if I found a product that would easily remove this without me having to continue like to keep washing like a Tupperware you know what I mean? I think I would bet on that.
So, that's what he's he he means with that. Second advice um is is actually do your own research. Now, a lot of people will probably suggest stocks um products companies that they think are the best thing to invest. And as I said before, we are in AI era. So, that means that a lot of people look at these um AI products, AI um companies, um AI related everything.
They think, "Yeah, this is actually a great opportunity and I'm going to listen to my friend and my dad and my mom and whatever." And in all honesty I think and I agree with Peter Lynch here, you should absolutely do your own research cuz you really don't know um a product until you've done some research about it.
And ask yourself some interesting questions. Is this company actually profitable? Are they actually making money? A lot of the times, you know, we see these very fancy offices and um [snorts] these you know, money allowances to company retreats and all these fancy stuff and you're like, all right, but is this actually making this company profitable?
A lot of the times it's just to show off, it's just to show to other people/companies that they are um making money, that they are profitable, but at the end of the day they are not. So, I would look at everything, balance sheets, like make sure is this a good investment for me? Um and I would do things that way, if you know what I mean.
[gasps] Third advice and my [singing] favorite. Sorry. Sorry for the singing, guys. I get really excited about this advice because I think it's like one of the greatest advice is ever. It's actually great companies don't usually offer exciting products. All right? And I have to believe in this 100%.
Like whenever I do my own research about specific products, if I'm doing individual pig stocking I have to always believe that that specific company or that specific product is going to solve an issue, like I said before. And a lot of I I can think about a specific product, I've done some research and I don't I don't want to say it cuz I don't want to influence you guys like directly.
But let's say it was not an exciting product. All right? I listened to a very cool podcast. Uh I think now they change their names to Friends That Invest. It used to be Girls That Invest, now it's Friends That Invest. Um and I was listening to them and usually they have these podcast episodes where they recommend certain products to invest.
Um and they recommended a specific one. Um and I was like I did my research. Like, "Oh my gosh, it is true. This company is extremely profitable." Um without getting into much details, let's just say this is a product that can be used even if people are facing a recession. Um because you like this is kind of like my metric sometimes.
What is the kind of product that even if people are at recession level, they will still continue to buy? All right. Uh and the product was yeah, essential because at the end of the day people can be struggling and going through a very hard time, but they will still go to through, you know, to that product.
Um and I think those are the most exciting products that will give you the return, the ones that are essential, the ones that solve issues, the ones that are not complicated or complex to understand, and the ones that will probably most definitely give you a return. That is what Peter Lynch had to say.
I agree with him. I think you should also agree. You get it? Mhm. Yeah. So, that was it for today. My goal was really to just dim down three Peter Lynch advices that are simple, easy to understand, and we can apply to our everyday life. Thank you so much for stopping by and I wish you guys a great one.
