hi youtube my name is kenneth and today we're going to talk about mike berry's predictions on index funds now if you don't know who michael bury is he is the guy who predicted the 2008 housing collapse in 2003 2004 he started working on it in 2003 and then kind of concluded that it would be a thing for sure in 2004 now with this he thought that it would be in 2007.
so he thought the housing market would collapse in 2007 and of course it didn't collapse until 2008 but by 2007 all the financial experts could see that something was coming now a prediction by him shouldn't be the you know the end-all be-all but it should be something that is considered because he does look at big investments and then break them down now the reason that he says that the index funds are going to collapse is because there's a lot of oddities and misvaluations within all the different markets the s p 500 the dow jones and the new york stock exchange now there's 61.5 billion dollars in assets and valuations for the 500 different companies in the s p 500 now this seems like a lot and it is but when you consider that the top 104 hold all the evaluate the valuation and all the money it starts to make you wonder why the other 396 are on the exchange see michael berry's concern is that with s p 500 that there are so many companies that are basically just getting free free investments when they aren't actually worth the money or what we call a zombie company now this shouldn't be a huge panic right now this isn't something you should go and sell all your index funds tomorrow this is something just to be aware of maybe make sure that you right make sure that you diversify outside of your regular index funds now i'm not a financial professional i'm just a guy on youtube always consult a certified financial planner or cpa before making investment decisions but my thought process is if these companies that are being grouped together if most of them are just dead weight then it's actually better if we we as the people we as investors decide what companies we actually want to include in our portfolio so my advice invest in companies that you know invest in companies that you trust the top companies on the s p 500 are companies that you know apple microsoft amazon google well it's alphabet but it's google facebook berkshire hathaway visa pretty soon tesla will be on this list companies that you know are super high on this list and they make up the majority of s p 500 in dollars so this is just something to consider when you're making investment choices and talking with your financial planner and don't worry it's going to be okay thank you all for watching if you like the video don't forget to like subscribe and don't don't forget to uh keep checking on my channel for more content thank you for watching have a good day bye
