In today's video, we're taking a look at the portfolios and activities of these three super investors: Bill Egman, Warren Buffett, and Nelson Pels. We'll examine what these three super investors hold in their portfolios and what they traded in the last quarter. Enjoy the video! Welcome back to a new video from the Capital Investor channel.
Please subscribe to support the channel and let me know in the comments if you'd like to see more of this format. If so, there will definitely be a Part 2, or perhaps even a Part 3, featuring other super investors. We'll be reviewing these portfolios quarterly. Now, without further ado, let's dive right in with the first portfolio, belonging to the legendary investor Warren Buffett himself.
Here we see the Berkshire Hathaway public portfolio. This is Q1 2024, as of March 31, 2024. Looking at the holdings, what do we notice? The first position is still Apple, although there was... A noticeable trim of around 13% reduced the Apple position, which still represents almost 41% of the total portfolio.
What does this mean, or what key insights can be drawn from it? Buffett sees it similarly to many other super-investors who are currently trimming their Apple positions. Apple's growth has slowed somewhat, or rather stagnated significantly, at least in recent quarters. When asked why he's selling Apple, he cited tax advantages, but it's likely a mix of factors.
The stock has performed exceptionally well; he really caught some extremely good entry prices back then and has made book profits โ 5,600% off the entry price. Taking a bit off the table is, I think, also open to interpretation. And as I said, we still have 41% in the portfolio. I'm curious to see how this will develop over the next few quarters, whether we'll see further reductions.
I think we'll have to wait and see for now. Otherwise, the next position is Bank of America, around 12% financial services โ a very classic approach, and it's heading in a similar direction. American Express, also 10, so we already have over 62% of the portfolio with just the top 3 holdings. Then there's Coca-Cola, Chefron Occidental Petroleum, which has been frequently mentioned in the news as a potential acquisition.
And the new stock in Buffett's portfolio, Chub Limited, is a Swiss insurance company. We know that Berkshire is generally very active in the insurance business, so this is an interesting acquisition. He has been increasing or implementing this position over the past few months, so it's very interesting to see.
And yet, at 2%, when you compare it to everything else below, it's certainly a noticeable position. Then we have Citigroup, Kroger, and Visa, which I find interesting. We also have Mastercard. If we scroll down a bit further, we also see, for example, Amazon. Then it gets very fragmented, so I won't go into detail about that; it's not really relevant anymore.
You can see that he also sold the remainder of Paramon Global, 88% recently. That was probably one of his many acquisitions. Warren Buffett, however, truly deserves respect for what he has created over this period, and I still find Apple's portfolio to be very solid. Apple is a top holding company, and I remain bullish on it.
We've already discussed it; it 's such a cash machine, such a strong brand. I think it's very difficult to simply write Apple off. And as I said, it remains interesting to see how things will continue with Apple and Warren Buffett and his holding company. That's the first investor for now. Now I would say let's look at the next portfolio and move on to Bill Aman.
Bill Aman manages around 10 billion US dollars through his holding company, Pershing Square Capital Management. Here, too, we see the same key dates, and here we have a very concentrated portfolio. We see only seven positions, which I find very exciting. He originally comes from the real estate business, and he says that's why his investment strategy focuses on retailers or generally businesses with a strong real estate base.
That's his specialty, which is why we often see restaurant chains. Currently, Chipotle and Restaurant Brands are two examples. Burger King and others are also included. Yes, fast food chains are included, as are chain restaurants. We have Hilton Hotels and Alphabet, which also have a very large position.
If you add it all up, it's the second largest position, and B really bought when Alphabet was performing very weakly. Chipotle was reduced by around 10%, its largest position. Yes, profit taking. The stock has really performed exceptionally well recently, and realizing a little bit here now isn't a bad idea, I think.
We can also look at the activities, and we can already see that here. Zooming in a bit in Q1, not much is happening despite the high concentration. It has completely recovered from its lows. I find the DIY chain very interesting, also with regard to Home Depot. They're not having an easy time of it at the moment either.
Chipotle was reduced a quarter ago, that was the fourth quarter. Here too, it had already significantly reduced its lows. There were also profit taking measures at Portle . It increased its stake in Howard Hutchins again, there was nothing new there either, and here we see the setback that Google experienced in Q3 23, where we also He's built up the position extremely, so he must already be sitting on good book profits.
We can see it here in Q2, already bought, and therefore I think overall it's certainly a very strong portfolio. Mickfeld Restaurant Brands isn't so good, to be honest. I would even prefer McDonald's or Starbucks here if in doubt. I'm also curious to see if we'll see another Starbucks position from Bill Aman next quarter.
He was invested here for a long time; perhaps he's now using this current period of weakness to find an entry point, since he also focuses on chain restaurants. I think we'll have to wait and see. And the Google pick has definitely paid off; it will certainly be interesting to see what he does next.
As I said, I don't particularly like resteround brands. I find the first two quite interesting, including Google, which is also my second largest position. I recently made a video about my portfolio update, or portfolio overview. If you haven't seen it yet, feel free to check it out. I show you my current holdings in detail.
That's all for Bill Aman, and now I'd say let's move on to Nelson. Hey, the Disney shareholder, you've probably heard about him in the news from time to time, and let's take a look at his portfolio. But before we get to that, a quick reminder: if you like this format, please let me know in the comments, and we'll do it more often and include other top investors.
I personally always find it quite interesting to see what the top investors are trading. So now we're here with Nelson PS Try and Fund Management. They have approximately 8 billion US dollars under management. We have some new shares here, a bit larger than Beem's, but nowhere near as large as Warren Buffett's.
Although, to be fair, Buffett's top three positions were very concentrated. It looks similar here. So, we have the top position, Walt Disney. Almost 50% of the portfolio is invested here. That's really extreme, and we see shares worth 4 billion US dollars in the portfolio. That's quite a statement, and it will certainly be interesting to see how things develop.
The Disney stock was quite strong at the beginning of the year, but has already given up a large part of its gains due to concerns about... Declining consumer demand, weak consumer behavior, Disneyland, things like that โ perhaps more savings will be made there. The theme parks are of course a big topic, so it remains interesting to see what happens with this holding company.
He lost his fight for a seat on the board of directors, so he failed against Disney. Personally, I actually found it interesting to have him on board because I don't think it's a bad thing to have someone on the board who pays close attention to the key economic figures and has experience. Disney and C pointed out that NS has no breakout experience.
In my opinion, it's enough if the CEO has that; a board member doesn't necessarily need to have that. But at least that's the current situation. Maybe he'll try again; that's almost to be expected. But he's really built up a considerable position in Disney. Otherwise, what else does he have? The Jennifer Herson Group doesn't ring a bell.
If you know what that is, please write it in the comments below. GE Aerospace has also performed very well recently, I must say. I don't find Wendy particularly interesting. Generally speaking, I have to say I find Disney an interesting stock, an interesting turnaround. I'm also a candidate and currently have a small open position in my long-term portfolio.
To be honest, I can't do much with the rest; they're not top companies for me. I'm really curious to see what can be done and what I 'll do. We can also take another look at the activities. Looking at the activities in Q1 2024, nothing much happened. A little cash was built up, a few sales. Honestly, a similar picture in Q4: positions were trimmed down a bit, or perhaps reduced more significantly.
And we really have to go back to Q3 2023 when Disney was massively increased. I'm curious whether the current weak phase in Disney will be used to pick up more shares, or whether he might even sell some himself. That's the question overall. As I said, the Disney portfolio is certainly very interesting, but yes, we'll see how the rest of the portfolio develops.
That's it for our overview of Q1 2024. As I said, that was part 1. Here are three super investors who have shown and proven in the past that they can beat the market or have achieved quite a bit. In her investor career, if you want to see more, let me know. Please also leave a like and subscribe to support the channel, and I would be happy to see you again in the next video. Until then, bye!
