Life and investing are not just about data centers. I understand. The money here is huge. This is incredibly exciting . Hardly a day goes by without something significant happening. The new model from Open AI that has been awaited, the revival of Intel, which could be colossal. I like philosophical discussions about machines becoming our masters.
However, the endless focus on and backlash against data centers is overshadowing one opportunity after another outside of this realm. And I'm no longer going to put up with you missing them. That's why after today, when the Dow fell 628 points, the S&P lost 0.58 %. The Nasdaq fell 0.32%. I want to talk to you about some other great stories that people are really missing out on because of their obsession with data centers.
No, I'm not saying I've lost faith in the data center story, not at all. I'm pretty optimistic about this. And I think this sector will start growing actively again after the elections. I don't give up stocks for my charitable trust, like GE Vernova, which makes turbines— they call them natural gas turbines—that convert natural gas into electricity, or Intel, which makes processors and raises their prices because demand far exceeds supply.
We just bought Micron for a charitable trust after visiting their headquarters in Boise, Idaho. I'll be giving an investment pitch on CNBC at noon on Thursday, which will start with why I actually sold Corning. You definitely won't want to miss this explanation. So, I still believe in data centers, but I also want to open your eyes to other possibilities.
This morning, for example, GE Aerospace spent nearly $12 billion to buy a casting company called Consolidated Precision Products to integrate this key segment into its supply chain. This is vital for both commercial aviation and the defense sector, both of which are thriving. Now, in a day when oil prices are rising, you might not want to focus on aviation, but travel has been on the rise all this time.
All the while the wars in Iran continued. This acquisition will pay off quickly for GE, increasing the chances of accelerating production. So it's also good news for Boeing, a huge GE customer that needs to ramp up production. GE shares are relatively close to their highs, and deservedly so . Boeing is nowhere near its peak.
However, the order book is full. Last week, a negative article came out about Boeing suffering from the troubled acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, which was made 2 years ago. But this acquisition was necessary because Boeing, like GE Aerospace, needs to better control its supply chain. Yeah, you might say: “Who needs such problems?” Boeing just reported its lowest delivery figures in 4 months.
And I will answer: " Wait a minute." First, the problems with the Spirit deal are behind us.” You know what? This story is old news. In addition, CEO Kelly Ortberg made it clear that orders would be uneven. I knew it. And listen, I understand that the high price of oil, especially jet fuel, is bad news for airlines, but the higher price of fuel also makes these new engines and aircraft much more valuable than before. .
