In the capital of West Bengal, Kolkata, there was a middle-class Marwari family. The family had no assets or savings. They could not make ends meet except by working daily. There was a boy in that family. Since childhood, the boy had dreamed of joining the Indian Army. But when he was 14 years old, his father suddenly died, and all the responsibility of the family fell on the boy.
So, what else could he do? He started working from a young age. However, with the idea of earning more money in this process, he entered the Indian stock market at the age of 19 and invested all the money he had earned till then in trading. That's all he lost. He earned money again and traded again.
He lost again. How much loss did he suffer? At one point in time, he ran out of money and had to sell his mother's jewelry to pay off his debt. You can understand how much loss he suffered in trading. But if you cut it, today that same person is one of the most Vijay Kedia is a successful investor who made about 1700 crores of rupees from the market that had lost money.
So the question here is why did Vijay Kedia actually change from a trader to an investor? What kind of investing strategies did Kedia use to make so many crores of rupees? I am going to tell you in this video. Guys, this video contains a lot of financial information. If possible, try to watch it till the end.
So let's begin. Hello everyone. Welcome to today's video. And this is your friend Surya. First of all, you should know some things about Vijay Kedia's background. Why did he look at the stock market when he wanted to make money? Vijay Kedia's grandfather worked as a small stock broker in Kolkata. Who do you think a stock broker is?
Let's see. Presently, we have many stock broking companies like Up Stocks, Zerodha and Angel. These broking companies do business by conducting transactions online and taking some commission, right? But once this business was not done online but offline. Some people got a license from SEBI and acted as mediators between buyers and sellers in the stock market and did this stock broking business.
So Vijay Kedia's grandfather also worked as a stock broker. Since he was a child, he used to watch activities like buying and selling shares in the stock market closely. Due to this, he got some basic idea about the stock market. But Kedia never thought of entering the stock market because it is a business with a lot of tension and stress.
Apart from that, Vijay Kedia had a desire to join the Indian Army since childhood. But when his father died at a young age, Vijay started the same stock broking business as his grandfather did to earn money. That is, he used to act as a mediator between those who buy and those who sell shares and earn money.
After working for a few days, Vijay noticed something in the stock market, that is, investors and traders are earning a lot of money as the stock markets have increased. That is, to earn more money in the stock market, one should trade or invest. But Vijay Kedia thought that doing stock broking like this would not bring anything except small profits.
At the age of 19, he opened a trading account and started trading in the stock market with all the money he had saved up till then. However, here you should know a small difference. Let me tell you what is the difference between trading and investing. In the stock market, it is called trading. Predicting in advance that the share of a company will increase in a few days or a few months and buying the shares of that company and selling it after it has increased is called trading.
There is a lot of risk in this. Also, the taxes levied by the government are also very high in trading. Next investing is checking the background of a company, that is, what business does that company do, how do they get income, how much debt does it have, how much is the possibility of that company growing in the future, and many such parameters.
If you consider and buy shares of a company and hold them for the next five to 10 years, that is called investing. Simply put, trading is a short-term game, while investing is a long-term game. So, the higher the risk in trading, the higher the reward. That is why, in general, many people who are new to the stock market are attracted to trading and invest their money in it.
The reason why I am saying all this is that when Vijay Kedia also started his stock market journey, he started trading with the idea of making more money quickly. He made good profits in the first year. Seeing that, Kedia completely understood the stock market. With the confidence that I would make a lot of money in the future, he invested all the money he earned in trading.
And that's when all the money was gone. That's when he realized one thing, that all the profits he had made before were only due to luck, not knowledge. So, he decided to try again and borrowed some money and made a lot of money. With confidence, he bought shares of a company called Hindustan Motors.
In the next two or three days, Kedia lost about ₹70,000 in that trade. ₹70,000 was a huge loss for a middle-class person in the 1980s. Kedia did not know what to do. He told his mother about the losses he had incurred. She gave Kedia all the gold she had and advised him to get out of the stock market and get rid of these losses.
After paying off his debts, Kedia decided not to go into trading and started a small business. He supplied the necessary materials to the tea estates in Kolkata. Initially, this business worked well, but as the days passed, Kedia was not getting any profits from this business. Since childhood, all he had known was the stock markets.
If he looked there, he would only see losses and no profits. If he wanted to do something else to make a living, there was no growth there either. So, in any case, Kedia decided to settle in the sector he knew and started a tea supply business. He left and entered the stock market again but this time he was not new to the market he had a lot of experience so he started trading again with the money he got from the tea business but again it was a failure but this time he did not lose much but Kedia did not know what to do.
It has been almost 10 years since he entered the stock market but he has not earned a single rupee. So then Vijay Kedia took an important decision in his life that is he left trading and entered investing that is instead of buying and selling the shares of the companies in the stock market in the short term he decided to do deep research in the background about those companies and buy shares and hold them in the long term.
As part of this he started his investment journey by buying shares of a company called Punjab Tractors for ₹50 in 1989. Some of you may not know about this company called Punjab Tractors. This is the company that first manufactured tractors in our country. Tractors is a government company. In 2007, it was bought by Mahindra and Mahindra Group and its name was changed from Punjab Tractors to Swaraj Tractors.
So, Vijay Kedia bought the shares of this company in 1989 for ₹50. In the next three years, the share price of this company increased by almost 10 times, which gave Vijay Kedia his first success in life. In 1992, he invested the money in a cement company called ACC. But here you should know about an important person.
He is the Big Bull of India, Harshad Mehta. He used to manipulate the shares of some companies in the stock market and take the stock prices to very high prices in a short time. Now why am I talking about Harshad Mehta? In 1992, Harshad Mehta manipulated the share price of a company called AC and in just a few months, the share price of that company went from ₹200 to ₹200.
It increased to ₹9000 in just a few months. This range growth means that those who buy these shares become crorepatis within a few months. The same thing happened in the case of Vijay Kedia. In 1989, Kedia bought shares of a company called Punjab Tractors at ₹300 in 1992 and sold it at ₹300 in the next few months.
That is, a return of almost 10 times. In simple terms, Vijay Kedia invested his money in two companies in five years and multiplied it almost 20 times. For example, one lakh became 20 lakhs in five years. Do you understand that after the Harshad Mehta scam came out, there were a lot of losses in the Indian stock market.
At that time, Vijay Kedia also lost a lot of money, but now he knows very well what stocks to invest in. So with this experience, in 2004 he again He took all the money he had and invested it in the shares of some small companies like Atul Auto, Aegis Logistics and Sera Sanitary Ware. In the next eight years, by 2012, these companies grew hugely and generated 1000% returns for Vijay Kedia.
With this blow, Vijay Kedia, who started with 35 thousand in 1980, had earned about ₹700 crore by 2012. He divided this money into small parts and invested it in companies in different sectors. I will give you the details on the screen. From 2012 to 2024, Kedia's assets increased from 700 crores to 1600 crores.
So, while looking at all this, one wonders how Vijay Kedia got so many multi-bagger stocks. What kind of investing strategy did he use? Yes, but let me tell you, look at all the stocks in the stock market. Companies are divided into three categories: small cap, mid cap and large cap companies. Cap means market capitalization.
So if the value of a company is less than 5000 crores, it is a small cap company. If it is between 5000 and 20 thousand crores, it is a mid cap company. If it is more than 20 thousand crores, it is a large cap company. Do you understand this difference? So Vijay Kedia's strategy is that he always invests more money in small cap companies than in mid cap and large cap companies because if a small cap company has good management and fundamentals, it has a lot of chances of becoming a multi-bagger stock in the future.
So a small cap company will become a mid cap or large cap company in the future. Similarly, if we invest our money in a large cap stock, our money will grow safely, but it will not generate 5x and 10x returns in a short time. Do you understand the logic? But the problem here is that investing in small-cap stocks is very risky.
Financial scams also happen here a lot. That is why before investing in small-cap stocks, you should invest in it only after knowing the fundamentals and management of that company in depth. Vijay Kedia's investing rule Next, let me tell you about some lessons that Vijay Kedia gives to those who want to invest in the stock market.
Lesson number one is never to borrow money from outside and invest it in the stock market. If you want to invest seriously, you should invest only a part of your savings consistently. Lesson number two is never to rely on other people's tips. To make you understand, you should never blindly invest your money in a company by following the stock tips given by someone on YouTube or Telegram channel.
Whether there is a profit or loss, you should be the reason for it, not others. Tips should never be followed blindly. Those who are successful in the stock market are those who have learned, failed and gained experience, but not those who have taken tips and become successful. Lesson number 3 This is very important.
Never be dependent on stock markets. That is, you should never depend on the money coming from the stock markets to live your daily life. Those who want to do serious trading or investing should always have multiple sources of income. Because the market does not always give only profits, there are also losses here.
So if you want to continue your daily life when losses come, you must definitely have an alternative source of income. That is why no matter how big a trader or investor in India is, they definitely do not depend only on the stock market, they create many types of income sources like doing other businesses, creating content on YouTube, selling courses.
This is the actual reason behind this. Do you understand? Disclaimer This video is made for informative purposes only. Take it seriously and do not invest or trade in the stock market even if you do not have knowledge. Hope you understand. If you find this video informative, then definitely like it.
