Father's death in 10th grade Losing lakhs in trading Marriage with no stable income A one-room house to live in and not even 14 rupees to buy milk for his son Despite all these problems, Vijay Kedia never gave up on his stock market dreams and today he has a net worth of over 800 crores. Friends, in this video we will explore Vijay Kedia's success story from ₹14 to 800 crores and we will also understand his investing strategy which has earned him so much money.
Friends, Vijay Kedia was born on November 4, 1959, in a middle-class family in Kolkata. His father was a stockbroker and this was the source of his income. When Vijay Kedia was in 10th grade, his father died. After his father's death, his family's financial condition began to deteriorate. Vijay Kedia wanted to do something to support his family, but he had neither any experience nor enough money to start a business.
So, he decided to start a business. At the age of 19, he decided to trade in the stock market because it required very little money to trade with margin. Friends, Vijay Kedia began making good profits within a year of starting trading in the stock market and he felt that trading was very easy and he had mastered it well.
Vijay Kedia says that his thinking like this was his biggest mistake because his profits in trading were not due to his skills but due to his goals. When luck stopped supporting him after a year, he started incurring huge losses in trading. At one point, the losses became so severe that he even had to sell his mother's sugarcane.
But he had made money in the last trade and had a child by selling his mother's sugarcane. Due to repeated losses, Vijay lost confidence in trading and decided to leave trading and invest, for which he started looking at and understanding the fundamentals of the company. At this time, Vijay Kedia was married and a year later, he had a son.
However, by that time, his financial condition was very bad and he had no money for his son. He did n't even have 14 rupees to buy milk. Vijay always wanted to do something big in the stock market. So, to fulfill his dream, he decided to move from Kolkata to Mumbai. There, he made many trips to the Mumbai Stock Exchange to earn money.
Finally, he returned to Kolkata in disappointment. But after staying in Kolkata for 6 months, he decided to move to Mumbai again because he was not going to give up his dream and passion for the stock market. In 1989, he invested the 35,000 rupees he had in Punjab Tractors shares. In the next 3 years, the shares of Punjab Tractors tripled.
Then, in 1992, he sold all the shares of Punjab Tractors and invested in shares of Axis Cement, which increased 10 times in a year due to the Harshad Mehta buyout. This was Vijay Kedia's biggest success. Then, he sold all the shares of SSC Cement and bought a flat in Mumbai and called his family from Kolkata to Mumbai.
After 1992, Vijay Kedia completed his major business. He invested in three companies during the stock market boom from 2002 to 2003: Atul Auto Adjust Logistics and Sanitary Ware. The share prices of these three companies increased more than 100-fold over the next 10 years, and Vijay Kedia became a very successful investor.
In 2009, Vijay Kedia had the opportunity to buy a milk powder mill. He gifted the company to his wife, saying it was for the day when he couldn't even pay 14 rupees for milk powder. Friends, this was Vijay Kedia's success story, with the help of which you too can become a successful investor like Vijay Kedia.
Although Vijay Kedia started in the stock market with trading, he considers it a big mistake. He believed that trading was easy and he could make millions through it. He says that all those profits were due to luck. After a time, luck deserted him, and he suffered huge losses. He realized that it's very difficult to become rich through trading, so he advises people to practice long-term investing from the start so they don't waste their time and money like he did.
Friends, Vijay Kedia says that before investing in any company, he looks at the company's management. Why is company management so important? Let's understand it with an example. For example, highway means the company's growth, car means the company. Shareholders are the passengers sitting in the car, and management is the driver.
So, if the car is an auto and the growth, meaning highway, is good, and the management, meaning drivers, are also good, then they will run the car, meaning the company, well and take it to its destination. On the other hand, if the car is a Mercedes and the highway is also good, but the driver is bad, then you can imagine the condition of the passenger sitting in the car.
That's why he says that the role of management in a company is very important. Friends, Vijay Kedia says that to be successful in the stock market, you need these three things: first, knowledge, that is, to choose a good stock, you need knowledge of stock market investing and companies. Correct understanding: Second is courage, that is, when we are getting the stock of a good company at a cheap price, like in the market, then we have the courage to invest our money in that stock.
Third is patience, that is, after investing in a good company, we have the patience to hold it for a long time because sometimes the market takes time to know the real value of stocks. Friends, Vijay calls his investing strategy the Smile Investing Strategy and by always investing with this strategy, he has generated multi-returns.
Let us understand this strategy in detail. The S in Smile status means that which is small. This is because today's small company can become a big company tomorrow, due to which they can get returns of 10 to 100 times and such a company is called mid-cap and small-cap company. M means medium in experience, that is, Vijay Kedia invests in such a company which has been in business for at least 10 to 15 years and has definitely seen at least one market phase and has learned from it because in such a situation, if the big time comes, there will be more impact on the growth of the company.
It will not make any difference. L means big. For these aspirations i.e. victory, we invest in such a company whose management or promoter has the passion to make his company the biggest company in its industry. Potential i.e. victory, we invest in such a company which is in such an industry in which it has the potential to become a very big company because if an industry itself is worth 1000 crores then how will it be able to become a company worth 10000 crores in the industry.
