01. we are now joined by a very special guest can we call him a legend I think we're going to Legendary investor Peter Lynch he is with us from Boston this morning to share his perspective on the economy markets and the work he's doing for the Catholic schools Foundation Peter of course is the vice chairman of fidelity management research and Advisory Board member of fidelity funds from 1977 to 1990 he managed the mellan fund growing it from you ready for this $20 million to $14 billion in 1990 at the time of his retirement by what you know is what Peter taught us and it's so nice to see you this morning Peter good to be here so let's talk about by what you know I'm so curious these days how you're thinking about the economy well I think people they're investing in individual stocks it's it's sad they're careful when they buy a refrigerator or an airplane flight or they're careful of their money and they'll hear about a stalk on the bus and they'll put five or $10,000 on it they have no idea what they do so you really got to be careful look at the company look at the balance sheet what is the reason the stock should be higher the sucker going up is not a good reason is your sense though that the style of investing uh that you pioneered is still doable and winnable today well I think looking for something different look me something that's a good story I mean who would guess TJX a local company would have gone up 50 fold or Stop and Shop would go up 10-fold or or Analog Devices or Nvidia I couldn't pronounce Nvidia so you have to find a company that's either a turnaround or compan is going to grow like Panera or you know Family Dollar stores I'm not saying they buys now but that's what's made our you know Sears is rolled over so you know so Kmart's rolled over IBM slowed down but we've had new companies come along I that's the nature you have to be looking for new companies and look at the balance sheet if you can add five and five and get reasonably close to 10 you should be able to look at a balance sheet you say here's two depressed companies they've gone from 50 to three one comp's got three amount in cash and no debt one's got three amount in debt no cash which one are you going to buy I mean that not too hard to do Peter I I watch watch you closely because I was in the business back then and I don't do you remember how many snls went from mutuals to stock trade that you made just Buu on back then and I mean I don't know if you I don't know if you missed any of those and they were all big Winners they're all big Winners they were all big Winners back then I just what do you think of the financial sector right now and what happened we saw with First Republic and uh I i' just like to get your Insight there since you you were so good at that sector you know we had a terrible financial crisis in 991 I think every almost every major Bank in Texas went under Bank in New England one of the oldest banks in the country went under it's like you know you know in 0809 the banks hi it's Tisha Paul and welcome to American television news go ahead friends and folks and family and everyone that's watching hit the free like and that free subscribe button it helps a lot our team really needs this so please hit the like and free subscribe button so what's better the stock market or real estate at the end of the segment will tell you which one is as you could tell we just introduced you to a little bit of the stock market with Peter Lynch he was on CNBC he used to the vice president of fidelity get this he brought it from $2 million to 14 billion that's how much he loved the stock market so our stock market making people Millionaires and billionaires and so is real estate 1% of the stock markets in the United States 1% owns 54% of the stock market stocks in the United States 19 .16 trillion do you know the government deficit is$ 33 trillion so now you see why government wants to tax the rich because they are heavily invested they have 19.16 trillion combined in stocks and the government owes 30 TR trillion dollar and then the bottom of the United States 50% of the bottom they own 0.6% of the stocks that's just 21 billion so we got to do more people we got to do more in the United States and own more stocks if you're scared of stocks look into mutual funds 2022 27% of Americans they invested in the stock markets so should you buy stocks or buy real estate which one is a better option well if you look at real estate real estate is a physical land or property stock is a tiny piece of a company that you are buying I own both I own real estate and stock I'm more heavily invested in real estate and I am in stocks and that's because that's my preference my father grew up being a real estate developer I grew up in a real estate home it's natural for me to take that route real estate I do own stocks mutual funds though and I like to give it to the big boys at Fidelity or whatever big players there are they hold on to those for us so that's an option for you if you're buying stocks give it to the big players so they can hold on to it so one advantage of stock it's less money to put up it's more liquidation and it's higher profit margin real estate more stable asset for you so you're not going to lose your house so to speak with real estate 90% of millionair own real estate and real estate offers you passive income so that's a big difference the stock market conditions market economic inflation and not a lot of cash to put up both of them are financial situation both of them need your risk tolerance both of them you've got to set goals for and both of them it's got to be the investment so real estate is more work than stock market is so buying real estate is a lot more work than buying stocks according to US News stock is better not worse so there are a lot of people who are bullish on the stock market personally own real estate and stocks but I'm having invested more real estate because real estate is a lower risk the yield better returns and it allows greater diversion because you could have location location location 90% of millionaires Rich owning they own they get rich from owning real estate location location location and timing timing timing take this down will you 9% millionair Rich location and timing it's very important so work can you by real estate and what are the top stocks here's some stocks for you today some six stock Telsa 23545 Facebook 33823 Amazon 14674 Google 13669 Apple 18997 these Americans are the top stock these world this is the top stocks in the United States they have high rate some are in the trillions and here are some Town Homes here if you want to invest in real estate here are some areas to look at La 319 5% down ports and Lucy in Florida 319 Denver Colorado 329 so in concluding I want to remind you all to just hit the free like and that free subscribe button it helps out a lot a lot lot lot lot lot we have been on
