And speaking of news, the CEO of BlackRock, Larry Fink, who has spoken negatively about Bitcoin numerous times, has changed his mind. Just look at this craziness. I was supposed to talk about this yesterday, right? What the markets have taught you over the last 100 years, even in the worst moments, is that if you have the ability to persevere over a long-term horizon, you will do well.
He's talking about this in the context of Bitcoin, which is what most Bitcoin holders are, right? Thinking long-term, it ends up working out, right? That's more or less what he said here. He participated in an interview on the 60 Minutes program, which was published last Friday, right? And he explained that even up to this point, the movement hadn't fully happened yet.
He explained what he was doing and why he changed his mind about Bitcoin. In the past, he claimed that Bitcoin was used by thieves to launder money. However, today his firm manages a $90 billion Bitcoin fund, making it the largest ETF in the sector. And naturally, how can you continue speaking ill of one of your company's main ETFs?
Well, the Bitcoin ETF has broken numerous capital raising records in the history of BlackRock ETFs, and you certainly can't keep talking badly about the asset that's helping pay your bills, right? These changes of opinion are not uncommon. Michael Saor himself said back in 2013 that Bitcoin's days were numbered, right?
And today he's one of the biggest Bitcoin holders, right? Well, he compared Bitcoin to gold here in a brief appearance on the 60 Minutes program. He expressed satisfaction with the American government's administration, noting that investors will now have exposure to data center startups, among other technologies, and their retirement plans, right?
In retirement plans, there has been a recent change in the types of things investors can buy. When questioned about past cryptocurrency claims, right? He said the following: "I mentioned Bitcoin because we were talking about it, which at the time was the domain of money launderers and thieves." That's a lie, right?
That wasn't the case even when he was talking about it a short time ago, but the markets teach you that you always need to reassess your positions. Oh, how humble! Cryptocurrencies have a role, just as gold has a role. It's an alternative for those seeking diversification. So, from a guy who fiercely criticized Bitcoin , now he says yes, it's part of the process, that he changed his mind, that it's normal to change your mind, especially when comparing it to gold, which is an important point here, right?
He then stated that Bitcoin is not a bad asset, but I don't believe it should be a large component of your portfolio. So he completely changed his tune until recently , right? He used to say things like, " Buff bar is rat poison," and stuff like that. Now, look, it 's not bad, but don't have too much.
And here I agree with him, especially for those who aren't used to it yet, you can't have too much Bitcoin, because you 'll still suffer a lot from short-term volatility, right? Well, he's saying something like, "Everything is risky except keeping your money in a bank account overnight," which isn't true either, right?
We've seen this here in Brazil before, too. But what the markets have taught you over the last 100 years, even in the worst moments, is that if you have the ability to persevere over a long-term horizon, you will do well. He explained it, right? A diversified portfolio is essential. Well, we're not suggesting there's a one-size-fits-all solution.
They are suggesting the opportunity to have the capacity to invest in these private market investments . And here comes something very simple that we've been talking about for so long now, right? Guys like... I'm not going to mention names here, but Brazilian investors who constantly criticize Bitcoin, saying they would never own Bitcoin under any circumstances, right?
But if they had 5% of their capital, even just 1%, that they had bought into Bitcoin back when all they wanted to do was criticize and badmouth it, how much return would those guys have today in their increased wallets because of Bitcoin's presence there? And so, something so obvious, so simple, which is what Black Rock does now, right?
The indication she gave here a while ago, I think it's been about a year now, is that some clients would have up to 3% of their portfolio in Bitcoin. No, but she is ultra- conservative. It is an ultra-conservative exposure that can yield enormous long-term results, as it has done for those who eventually bought it in the past.
So, it's a very logical thing, actually, right? One extremely logical thing to do is to invest in an asset like Bitcoin, which will help diversify your portfolio , as he's saying. Well, for those of us who are more experienced in the market, it makes sense, at least for me, to have more Bitcoin, because I have other issues there that aren't just about investment.
There are other issues that are important to me regarding Bitcoin, but for someone who is a financial market investor, having this diversification can help a lot, right? And it 's such an obvious thing, so logical, right? Well, the problem is that these guys in the past always demonized Bitcoin, saying it was a bubble, speculative and all that, and that prevented many of their clients, right, due to their lack of knowledge or their very contrary position, uh, they ended up influencing their clients not to invest in it, and these guys unfortunately missed an opportunity to change their own lives, right?
Even with small investments in Bitcoin in the past , you could have changed your life. So that's it. I think that's good, right? A guy like him setting an example of changing your mind, right? It will certainly influence other people in the market to change their minds, and we will finally reach a point where we understand, no, Bitcoin is speculative, yes, it is volatile, yes, but it is an asset, seriously, it 's not a bubble, right?
And I think it's becoming increasingly clear to those who still accuse Bitcoin of being a bubble and all that , I think it's becoming clearer that it isn't, right? M.
