요약 보기

이 영상은 피터 린치의 책 『One Up on Wall Street』 계열 내용인 『The Peter Lynch Way of Investing』 리뷰다.

01. the podcast, welcome to another video on the channel. Today I'm going to talk about a book I read that I found fantastic: "The Peter Lynch Way of Investing." I looked it up in English, and it's a real gem. This book is absolutely fantastic for those of you who are starting out and want to read something to help you.

02. It does n't teach you the terminology; it's important to understand the words a little beforehand. But, in the second or third book on investment, it's wonderful. Who was the author? The author of this book was Peter Lynch. Who was this guy? He was the manager of one of the largest funds in the United States, and he achieved a return of 29.2 percent per year.

03. He went through several crises. He achieved this return from 1977 to 1990. He started his Ibovespa (Brazilian stock market index) there, and half of that. He achieved double the return from there, which is important to compare your stocks, how all these stocks are doing, especially the most important stocks.

04. But anyway... He has profitability, but this book is fantastic. It's divided into three parts: preparing you to invest, choosing winning stocks, and the long-term vision. It prepares you, helps you choose, and puts you on a path to long-term growth, not short-term growth. Because I believe that in the short term you can't make much money.

05. In fact, more than ninety-nine percent of people who try to do what they did— buying and selling stocks on the same day—end up going broke. Less than one percent succeed. So he says that in the long term you buy a stock so that in 20, 30, or 40 years it will be paying dividends for your retirement. Right?

06. I want to share four lessons I learned from this book. This book greatly changed how I see stocks and how I see my investments. Right? There were four lessons. The first is that he believes you need to invest only in stocks and assets and investments that you understand how they work, that you know.

07. So, for example, I look at a company—it's a company that sells mattresses— I understand how it works, I understand what a good mattress is, what do you think? I do n't understand how she sells, I understand who she sells to, the clients she sells to, and how long it takes for the client to come back to buy the product.

08. I need to understand that, but investing in a company that she's going to... it 's a database company for the government on a very specific subject that you don't understand. It's better if you don't even invest because you might be choosing the wrong stock, an asset, and end up getting burned in the end.

09. Peter Grant Withers, the world's third richest investor, is the manager of Berkshire Hathaway. What did these guys do? They didn't participate in the dot-com bubble of the 2000s, the internet bubble, a bunch of many technology companies, and people started talking badly about victory. They 're losing, losing the magic, they do n't know how to do it anymore, they're getting old, falling behind.

10. And in fact, they knew what they were doing, knowing that the companies weren't making profits. I didn't understand a company properly, let's leave it cold, right? All the companies went up, support burst, and many people sold fortunes, and how many people lost money? This money in cash and they could invest, which no man likes now, in those of the coronavirus heliport, billions and...

11. Billions of dollars, and that's how he managed to profit from the pandemic, right? The present... he has a very interesting story that goes back to the 90s. He was buying his wife's Christmas present, and there were 7 days left until Christmas, and he didn't want to go because it was crowded. His brother-in-law helped him buy a present on Amazon, and it arrived in 3 days, right?

12. The shipping from the United States is another thing. He found this method of buying and selling online fantastic, but they end up studying it more, they find it very complicated, so he put it aside. He lost a fortune, but he didn't invest, he didn't invest, and he became restless. He managed to stay calm, he managed to sleep peacefully, and what he says is that this is very important, and what you know is that even if you lose money here, you will gain with an investment that you understand, right?

13. Peter also talks about choosing certain types of stocks. He has six different types of stocks, but he took the two most important ones, and what I think is most important for me, how do I do it? He takes and divides them into two different groups of stocks: a stock that gives you many dividends and a stock that distributes profits to you.

14. And others have a very large growth potential, right? I thought about making a comparison with Itaú and Banco Inter, since I've already talked a lot about this, I'll use another company so as not to be repetitive. I'll talk about Centauro and Magazine Luiza. Magazine Luiza gained a lot of ground, it exploded in growth during the crisis, many people bought there, and it's a company that's worth millions of reais today.

15. While Centauro, you must have seen it in the mall, in those sports stores, a very good store, but they also entered the technological world, the world of digital stores, they have sold a lot, right? But why am I showing these two stores, these two different companies? Magazine Luiza is a large company that is still investing money in growth and doesn't distribute a large number of dividends.

16. Centauro, on the other hand, ca n't accept a small company worth 6 billion reais, while Magazine Luiza is almost 100 billion reais. I see Centauro multiplying tenfold and still having the market to grow, right? But Magazine Luiza not so much, and I saw Centauro's numbers, I found the solo number, so I took Centauro.

17. I've put it in my investment portfolio, focusing on companies that can multiply your wealth several times over. It's a little different from Magazine Luiza, but for people who want dividends, people who want to stay calm just receiving a share of the company's profits, I recommend using Itaúsa, or Road, which has several different companies, mostly Itaúsa, plus a very large company, Vale—I don't remember the exact number right now, but I think it's around 100 billion reais— and it has distributed dividends of almost 10 percent last year, which is practically 9 percent.

18. That was actually three times the CDI (Brazilian interbank deposit rate) and four times the savings account rate. So, just from its dividends, you earned four times what you would earn in a savings account, not including the return on the stock. So remember to divide your assets in two and think about the stocks you want to grow quickly and the stocks you want to generate profits.

19. Now, as a young person, I don't have much to lose, so I put most of my money in stocks that can multiply because when I'm 30 or 40 years old, when I have children, a wife, and so on... "I have more risk, so I'll want to move on to these more solid companies, but while they're young, I want to keep risking my money.

20. And here's the third lesson: people buy a refrigerator better than they buy stocks. People buy refrigerators, that's what comparisons... editors, can you explain this to me? And this... it's a little difficult, no problem, I 'll explain what he meant by that. He's using the example of a house, but it could be a refrigerator too, right?

21. When a person is going to buy a refrigerator or any household appliance, even something small that's so important to us, they spend several days looking for the best refrigerator. They go to several different stores, among several different websites. They come here, the brand, the ideal size, the price, guaranteed utility, design, everything, everything to choose the best refrigerator, right?

22. And when a person wants to buy a stock, they usually go for what's famous in the market. I'm going to buy Petrobras, everyone buys it. I'm going to buy several, everyone buys them, right? Buy these big companies that are on everyone's lips, but I don't understand these companies, right? Because I'm going to buy this big company.

23. If you're a doctor, you don't go to Petrobras, buy Fleury, which is a network of laboratories." So, you'll understand the business model much better, right? So look for companies that you can understand and study. You know, that's what he was trying to compare to refrigerators and stocks. Go after stocks that you can understand how they work and that you study.

24. See what the customer thinks, see the fundamentals, see customer recurrence, see all of that because it will take a lot of time, right? But it's the money you've spent your whole life building. You're not going to put it in just any stock, right? Put it in a stock that you understand. And if you don't understand it, put it in an investment fund.

25. If you don't understand it, put it in a fixed income investment because, like the people who bought, for example, Blockbuster back in the 90s, a hot stock, let's say the Batman blockbuster, lost their money. People who bought, even Brothers, which is in the bank, I feel very well regarded. The bank went bankrupt, and the bank had more than 600 billion dollars in assets.

26. The bank went bankrupt, right? So study the investment you make well, right? You don't want to end up wasting your life savings. You're going to buy and build in the wrong stock, in a poorly priced stock. And the last lesson he wants to leave you with from the book, but of course there's much more there, but...

27. What I found very interesting is that he says, he did this a lot in the book: look around you and buy the companies you know, and before the companies arrive on the streets here, in the security of the companies arriving on Faria Lima, right? Look for the companies you like, look for small companies.

28. So that was one of the reasons that made me buy Centauro. I liked the store, I bought shoes there, and it's a very good store, a store that has a lot of growth potential, people like the store. So, for companies that aren't on everyone's lips, because while they're on everyone's lips, when everyone knows them, they're already priced much more than they should be worth, right?

29. So, in the United States it's much easier because there, small companies can go public without needing $500 million in an open capital, $400 million in public capital. But it's very difficult to find a company in Brazil that's worth a billion reais, right? Usually it's much more than that. So, even so, you can still look for small companies that you use daily, right?

30. And you don't even realize it, and you can invest in that company. Of course, it's not just if you like the stock, you won't... McDonald's, eating a Burger King, eating a hamburger, implying connections with the Big Mac. You don't go to McDonald's and buy a Big Mac, and if you like it, you'll just buy it.

31. You won't like it, you'll see the customers, what idiots, and then you 'll study. A lot of people lost money because McDonald's... why did they buy McDonald's during the bubble when it was at its peak? Now it's burst, McDonald's prices have dropped, and it's returned to the price that really... it took many, many years for the price to return to what it was.

32. So, you look at a company, you like the company, you see what the customers think, and then you look at the fundamentals, see the profits, see the debts, see if the company's earnings are compatible with the company's price today, see the company's P/E ratio, the price-to-earnings ratio. There are many companies today with a seductive price tag of 100 that can justify it, but is it all worth it?

33. So, you look at the company's attitude, but don't go after what people think. He's saying, "Go after what you're seeing." He said he made a lot of money and multiplied the capital he invested in a funeral home. Nobody thinks, " Go ask for a funeral home, I brought you one, you need to die?" No, that's not it.

34. But it was a company that was doing very well, gaining market share. He realized this, and since he was investing in a funeral home, he managed to multiply his assets several times over. So it's very interesting to look around you, right? He tells the story of his wife, who really liked a store. She told him she lived in the store, made new friends there.

35. He saw the store, saw the amount of knowledge and fundamentals, the amount of growth it could achieve, and he bought it and multiplied his capital several times over. That company is worth more than I know if it still exists because he was talking about many old companies, but it's very interesting.

36. Right? These were some of the lessons I learned from the book. I encourage you to go after this book and read it because it's fantastic, okay guys?
