Today we are going to talk about that legend of the Indian stock market whose name is on the lips of every investor. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. Do you know where one of India's biggest wealth creation stories began ? With just this small amount. So the question arises that how can a person convert just this little money into a huge portfolio of more than ₹00 crores ?

Let us understand the thinking behind this amazing journey today. He was not called Big Bull and India's Warren Buffett for nothing. These names reflect their status and understanding in the market. So okay, let's start from the beginning. First of all, it is important to understand how he started and how his thinking and strategy changed with time.

His journey started in 1985 with just ₹5,000. And just look at this timeline. This is a complete story in itself. His first trade in Tata T was so strong that his money tripled in 3 months. By 1989, he had become a smart short-term trader and had taken his capital beyond Rs 20 lakh. But the real game changer came after 2000 when he changed his gear and became a long term investor from a trader and then in 2002-3 something happened which made history.

His iconic investment in Titan and this quote of his explains his entire philosophy in one line. He quickly learned that real money comes to those who wait. Not for those who are in a hurry. So what were those basic principles? What was the thinking that led him to make major investment decisions for decades?

If you look at his checklist, it was very simple but incredibly effective. The first question is, does the business have the potential to grow? Second, can the management be trusted ? Third, are the fundamentals of the company, i.e., its foundation, strong? Like can she increase the price as per her wish?

And the fourth and most important thing was whether there is enough trust in this company that it can be held for years. Now see, whenever the market fell, most people would panic. But Jhunjhunwala had a completely different view. He saw it not as a threat but as an opportunity. He believed that if the company is good then the fall is the best time to buy and this thinking was probably his biggest strength.

He was n't afraid of mistakes but considered them an essential part of learning. And because of this, he continued to learn and become a better investor. So this is about philosophy, but how did these things actually look in his portfolio ? Let's see. Just take a look at this chart. This clearly shows how focused his portfolio was.

Almost 1/3 of the money was invested in just one stock, Titan. The second major part is in banking and finance. This shows that when he had conviction about something, he would play big bets and not small ones. And this is very interesting. His strategy had two parts. One was a core portfolio consisting of companies like Titan in which he had immense faith and the other was a small speculative portfolio where he would take small experimental bets on new ideas like Mandana Retail which turned out to be a wrong bet but since it was a small investment, it did not result in any major loss.

This is a great way to manage risk. Now let's talk about that one biggest belief which was the foundation of every investment decision of his. This one line is the essence of his entire thinking. He had an unshakable belief that the coming century belongs to India and the country's economy will grow tremendously.

You could say it was his ultimate filter. Every investment decision of his had to stand the test of this one big belief. He invested only in companies that he saw as becoming an important part of India's growth story. Let's finally take a look at his legacy, which is much bigger than just stock market numbers.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala was not just an investor but much more than that. He created firms like Rare Enterprises. He was a mentor and inspiration to countless new investors and also quietly made significant contributions to sectors like healthcare and education. His life is a living example of the power of patience and faith.

His entire investment philosophy was based on one big belief. India's progress and this forces us to think about what is that one big belief on which we take our decisions.
