Friends, if there was any person who was most optimistic about India that India is going to progress a lot in the future, then it was Rakesh Jhunjhunwala ji, who was very optimistic and growth oriented in his own life too. Because friends, if I tell you that a man started his journey in the Indian stock market with just 000 and then in 30-35 years he created a wealth of almost 000 crores, then would you believe me?
If Rakesh ji had not done this, then we would not have believed it at all, but he proved it in reality with his skills and showed that a lot can be achieved in a lifetime. So friends, our today's video is on a person who has been an inspiration and a hero for me and many investors of India, that is Big Bol i.e.
Rakesh Juju Dwala ji because not only me but many big and small investors and people from the financial media used to track his portfolio and his actions very closely and as soon as Rakesh ji made a big move in any stock When Rakesh ji invested an amount, it would immediately become breaking news. Often, the stock would touch its upper circuit simply because of Rakesh ji's buy, meaning it would go up to 5, 10, or 20, which was its maximum daily limit.
In the last 20-30 years, many people have created lifetime wealth and achieved financial freedom by blindly copying Rakesh ji's portfolio. Unfortunately, we can no longer copy his portfolio, nor will we hear any news from today that Rakesh ji has invested in any stock. Friends, his story and his lessons will always remain with us.
In today's video, I'm going to discuss with you what he did differently in his life that helped him reach this position. So, let's begin. Friends, the first and most important skill we should learn from Rakesh ji is risk. According to him, if you are not taking risks in your life, then you are not growing at all because growth Risk comes from taking risks, but that risk must be calculated.
Let's learn from Rakesh's story. Rakesh had a keen interest in the stock market since childhood. His father worked in the Income Tax Office. Whenever his father's friends visited him at home in the evenings and discussed stocks, Rakesh listened attentively. This led him to read newspapers and companies as a child.
One day, Rakesh told his father that he wanted to pursue a career in the stock market. As you can guess, like any Indian father, Rakesh's father also discouraged him from getting involved in the stock market. His father wanted Rakesh to first earn a good degree and then follow his passion so that he would have a backup option.
Being a good son, Rakesh worked hard and earned a Chartered Accountant degree. He then began his stock market journey in 1985 when he came to Mumbai and took a job at the stock exchange. However, at that time, he only had a few. He gave โน5000000 and the other gave him โน10 lakh, then Rakesh told them that he would grow their money at a better rate than FD, then Rakesh ji invested his clients' money in Tata T shares, which was the first stock of his life, which was worth โน3 at that time and after just three months the price of that stock reached โน13, meaning he tripled his money in 3 months, so after this huge profit, Rakesh gained more confidence in the stock market and from then on his real journey started, so friends, here the first lesson of Rakesh ji's life is that if you are very fascinated and confident about something, then do not be afraid of taking risk for it because every quote of his life is that never be afraid to take risk but only risk so much that you can afford to stand next day because friends, if you study Rakesh ji's life in a little detail, then you will know that he He took a lot of risks in the initial stages of his life, such as taking many risky trades and even short selling, which we will discuss later.
Because when you are young, your risk-taking capacity is very high. You don't have many responsibilities, so you can fail and start from zero. But if you do n't take risks, then in the future, you wo n't regret taking risks and failing as much as you will regret not taking risks. I wish I had worked on that business idea or I wish I had chosen the career I liked, how would my life be different today?
Because in the majority of us Indian families, parents by nature tell us to choose a safe path which doesn't have much growth. So, if Rakesh ji had not followed his passion and had not taken it, then perhaps we Indians would not have a legendary investor like him. Now friends, a question must be coming in your mind that how did he find stocks that generate good profits, because in his lifetime, he had many multi-bagger investments.
I have invested in stocks like Tata, Tata, Tata Motors, Chrysler, Xtra, Xtra. The answer is that Rakesh never made his investment decisions based on tips, nor did he follow any textbook strategy. He devised his entire investment strategy on his own and used an independent mind to decide which stocks he should invest in, which means that he never took decisions with the crowd.
Now, for this, I will give you two examples. The first example is of 1989. At that time, Mr. Madhu was our Finance Minister. He was about to pass a budget. Everyone predicted that that year's budget would be very bad for businesses and investors. Due to this prediction, many people started selling their investments, and within no time, the market had crashed badly even before the budget came.
Now, friends, if we look at the market in this situation, the majority of people followed the crowd and sold their stocks. But Rakesh, for the first time, demonstrated his independent mindset and kept his money invested in the market. Not only that, but through his research, he discovered that Mr. Madhu came from a financial background and therefore, he would keep the budget beneficial for businessmen and investors.
That's why Rakesh invested all his money in the stock market at that time. Rakesh used to say that his wife never demanded anything from him, but for the first time, his wife asked him for an AC in their bedroom. Before the budget was released, Rakesh had โน1 crore, which he fully invested. Along with this, he had taken a leveraged position, which is a risky trading strategy that multiplies both your profit and loss.
When the budget was released and his portfolio grew, his net worth increased from โน2 crore to โน20 crore in a single day. Then he installed an AC in his house and told his wife that our AC has arrived. Friends, another interesting thing to note here is that time He already had โน2 crore in cash, that too โน 2 crore at that time, yet he did not install an AC in his house.
However, nowadays people do not even have โน2 lakh in the bank and they dream of expensive iPhones and cars after seeing others, just because everyone else is doing it. This clearly shows us that Rakesh was a good investor as well as very frugal, that is, he was very good at controlling his expenses.
Now friends, this was a very old example from the budget of 1989. I will tell you a very recent example from which we will understand how different he thought. When the share prices of all the companies were crashing due to Covid in March 2020, then the share price of Tata Motors also crashed a lot and it reached a low of โน5, so low that it had not happened in the entire 121 years.
So this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, which Rakesh ji had also talked about a lot in the news at that time. It was only once, but hardly anyone would have heard of it. Rakesh ji invested in this company at that time and invested a very good amount and then in just two years the share price of this company increased to โน5000000, giving six times returns.
This clearly gives us a clear understanding of how he goes against the crowd and thinks with an independent mind. Because in March 2020, people were lining up at grocery stores and D-Marts after seeing others, but here Rakesh was investing in a highly cyclical sector stock when no one was ready to invest in it.
Now, how he did the research behind this and what valuation rules he applied, we will discuss this in a separate video because this stock was actually very undervalued at that time and it was a clear-cut excellent opportunity which any value investor would have easily seen. Then friends, the third lesson is that Rakesh ji has created his majority wealth through long- term investing and he himself has done this many times.
It has been said in interviews that wealth is created documents fragment at 95 and then bought at a cheaper price, then the difference is your profit, we also call it short selling or bear position because here you expect that the market or stock should crash i.e. bear market should come, so we will also discuss this strategy in detail in a separate video, but Rakesh ji has earned his majority wealth by long position i.e.
buy and hold the stock, for that he always invested in such companies which had a competitive advantage, for example, we all know that in 2003, Rakesh made such an investment due to which his investment record reached sky from ground to sky, when he bought 4.4 crore shares of Titan Company when its price was only โน and then shortly after this investment, the stock of this company grew from โน to 80, but then after some time, the stock of this company fell from 880 to It had reached โน10, so at such a time any person could have withdrawn his investments out of fear, but Rakesh ji showed patience and kept holding that stock and gradually the price of this stock kept increasing and then a time came when he never needed to sell that stock, a small dividend of it covers all the expenses of his family for the whole year, then friends, in 2006, Rakesh ji bought a house worth 27 crores by selling some shares of Chrysal company and by 2020 the price of that house had become 45 crores, but if he had not sold the shares of Chrysal at that time, then the value of those 27 crore shares would have been more than thousand crores in 220, but he did not regret it at all because he knew why he was taking this decision, because friends, after you leave this world, people will not remember you because of how much money you earned and how much money you have in your bank, rather people will probably remember you because of what you did for them.
What did he do? Years later, we probably won't remember Rakesh for the billions he earned. His wife and children will remember him for the good dad and husband he was, for the immense love he showered on them and for the family's resilience against financial problems. Friends, we'll also likely remember him for the many important lessons he taught us about investing and for the growth of our country.
But I believe Rakesh possessed a unique quality: he was highly optimistic about India's growth. He would say that the next 100 years, not just 10, would be incredibly important for India. India would see growth like never before. Rakesh knew this very well, and that's why he didn't blindly follow anyone and made his own rules.
Friends, he wasn't an Indian Warden Buffett billionaire or a brilliant businessman. He was a good husband, a good dad, a good teacher, and a true Indian who believed in India's success. And he had said this very thing many times, I am not a cloner, I don't copy anybody, I am Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, so friends, that's all I hope for today's video, you must have learned something from this video, so please subscribe to the channel and press the bell icon so that you do n't miss any such important videos.
