does not apply to Sam Allman, even though he is the sharpest dealmaker I have ever seen in our industry. I mean, there's literally Barry Diller, the dealmaker. Hmm, and I mean that as a compliment. Some people are just incredibly good at making deals. So he's a deal maker. He will compete like Zuckerberg.
He will steal, release, copy, co-opt your term, art, product of any partner. He will stab any partner in the back , even if it's Apple, etc. And remember, I think they actually had a deal with Apple. They were the first to be integrated into Siri, er, or search. It was one of two, uh, short-term deals.
So, I think Sam is exhausting people with partnerships. I think there will be a lot of disruption with OpenAI, and then OpenAI will go its own way. That's why OpenAI is making its own jalapeno chips, which Sam tweeted about. They, you know, I don't think Nvidia is happy with them. Um, and Nvidia probably isn't going to put any more money into it.
They had the opportunity to invest more money in it . Now they are competitors. They will be Apple's competitors. Sam is going to compete with everyone. He will compete with everyone. Anyone who creates something interesting in the world will compete with them. There is no partnership. He's like Bill Gates.
He's like Zuckerberg. It is designed for competition, not partnership. And this is another example of this based on personality or personal finance. This is the main thing. Apple can't compete with OpenAI stock options. If you're Apple, and you give this guy a $10 million-a- year contract, everyone around him, who's his equal right now , says, "Well, I have a $3 million-a- year contract.
I need a $10 million-a- year contract." Now, stock-based compensation is growing rapidly. Stocks are falling. This doesn't help anyone. They had to revalue their shares. That means they get more stock-based compensation and you just get into this debt spiral. So they at Apple should be willing to let such people move on to the next company.
This speaks to non-competes in California. There is a rule prohibiting the provision of services. So this person can't take his team with him. She can't take the intellectual property with her, but she's free to leave unless she's paid to stay out of the game for a certain period of time when you buy someone's company.
Non-compete has no legal force. So, uh, that's one of the main reasons why California and the tech industry are winning. This is because talent can move freely. Sam is going to create things. Will it be able to compete with Apple stores and Apple on technology? Yes. Yes. The answer is yes. Why not? Why not?
And this will push Apple to be more innovative. Let's start. Every time we see a revolution in how software is created and used, one company ends up owning the infrastructure that everyone else depends on. The next great platform is being built right now. This company is Digital Ocean, and they just launched their AI cloud .
This isn't just another GPU rental place or hyperscaler that overloads you with features and services, leaving you to patch it all up. No, we're talking about a complete platform that comes pre-assembled and sends you just one bill at the end of the month. Workato runs trillions of automated workloads on Digital Ocean with 67% lower output cost, 9% lower latency, and 2x faster production launch.
