And recently, data was released showing that women are growing significantly in the stock market, which is really cool. Even here on the channel, the video shows that the majority of the audience is female, so I'm incredibly happy. Let's get women into the stock market so we can increase that number even more.
And you women have a gift that we don't have, which is the gift of paying more attention to things, where you can easily find that stock that will multiply by 5, 10, 20 times. I'm not the one saying this; I 'm taking it from this video here, Peter Lynch's way of investing. This guy is a beast at achieving the highest returns of all time when we invest with him.
And I'm going to bring a passage from the book here that shows how you women can take advantage of this gift. So don't go away, I'll be right back. And your male counterparts can also use this; you don't need to listen, stay there, it's also valid. Hey everyone, okay? For those who don't know me, my name is Thiago.
So today I'm going to bring an approach to stock selection that's a little less technical but no less important, which I'm taking from this book here. What I found very interesting, I 'll quickly talk about two cases here so you understand that Peter Lynch was talking about the first case, the company Ales.
Peter Lynch says he was a guy who knew the textile industry, which was the sector, and did various research, he knew about knitting and a whole lot of technical things. In all his research, he never took control of the company to invest. On the other hand, his wife, who had no information about the company, one day at the market, she came across the colorful plastic balls that sold pantyhose.
It was a company called Hanes, they were testing the acceptance of a new product, and the company was initially outside. When they came out, a woman with those packages, those colorful balls, was interviewed and asked if she was buying her pantyhose. She said yes, but she didn't even know the name. This was wonderful for the company; it was a way to promote the name, and without knowing the name or the brand, the product was already a sales champion.
Another strong insight from this company, look at their reasoning: this product was sold in stores, so they did a study with other women in a convenience store once every six weeks, while in the market they go at least twice. This increases the chance of buying the product weekly, and it's a great way to get a good idea from a clever trick.
Everyone could have noticed this without looking at any data or numerical information. Just look at the supermarket and see that there are a lot of people saying " I want some colorful balls." You can see it in every cart. The product is a bestseller, but we rarely noticed. So, ladies, keep an eye out when you're shopping.
Men, don't even bother telling them to keep an eye out; they'll pay attention to what they're buying and always forget something, you know? So, here's a seed I'll plant: see something that's selling a lot, a beauty product that we use a lot? Take a look and see if the manufacturer, even just that name, is publicly traded on the stock exchange.
It's not just because it's selling a lot that it's not, but that should raise an alert. Go study the company, see how much of that product represents in the company's revenue. And then you do everything. For example, the company Ale, which had been publicly traded for years, saw its shares multiply sixfold until it was acquired by another company.
A company, a beautiful one, wins a second case. I'll summarize it here, which is quite long in the book; it's well worth reading. Okay, I'll change the name, which is quite complicated, to call the guy Zé and Maria. The story is this: Zé was managing the stocks—this is a true story—and he was studying to buy shares in São José, and he made a lot of mistakes, buying high, then when he lost 50 percent, he sold.
He was the smart guy, the kind of guy who was there. His wife came to tell him some news: she had discovered a store with fantastic products, very good prices, and excellent service. He didn't pay attention to it. This company was publicly traded on the stock exchange; it was his company (I don't know if you know the name, I personally don't).
Meanwhile, the smart husband at home was buying 20 shares of the company Vinchester and 27 (I remember the black and white computer there), and he lost another 50 percent on the shares, these being from 10 o'clock to 5 o'clock. He sold all five, losing 50 percent of his capital, and was happy because, according to him, he had done well to save the 50 percent.
She was talking about a company that's a success here, and he didn't understand anything about coming here to fill you up. You bought Winchester, so pay attention to this: the shares, Limited, in his Mitelli, it went from 50 cents here, it jumped to $9, even had a surge, then believe me, it went to $52.90.
So you hadn't noticed that detail, woman, you went there, well attended, good product, and it's a company that was forgotten. He talks like Street, right? Nobody had any focus. When it reached 90, what happened? The analyst hit the bullseye, everyone was buying, then people started buying, then he realized and he went to talk to her and said, "Hey, you know that company you love, oil, you love it, it's publicly traded, I'm buying things." She replied, "Yeah, but the store isn't good anymore, the products aren't great, it's too expensive, there's no more exclusivity," and said a lot of things.
She was no longer with him, he ignored her and did what he did, bought at the peak, and the company started to improve. He paid around 50 and something and it dropped to 16. So, summarizing these... Two cool little stories that I condensed a bit. Lots of actions, lots of opportunities, we're all around us, searching, looking, wanting to find the gold way over there, and sometimes opportunity, opportunity is right beside us.
So, that's the song. In this regard, pay attention to your surroundings, it could be on the street. Women are way better than men. Okay, so that's the message. You women who already invest, comment here so I know how many of you are already in the stock market to give a run for your money to all those guys who think they know everything and end up not paying attention where they need to.
