hi guys welcome back to the channel this video is about an american investor and hedge fund manager and his comments about a possible upcoming market crash michael bury is the founder of xion asset management and he always has some interesting things to say and this year again he's been saying some interesting things he's someone who has some contrarian views about markets and companies like tesla and he's not afraid to speak his mind you may know michael berry from the movie the big short the movie starring christian bill brad pitt and ryan gosling it's an autobiographical hollywood movie showing how he accurately predicted the 2007 and eight u.s housing market collapse which resulted in the world financial collapse of the time that was the biggest collapse since the 1920s wall street crash and to this day there are still millions of people around the world who are still feeling the after effects of that crash many who had lost everything at the time michael bury personally made 100 million dollars of his bet as well as 700 million dollars for his shareholders off the back of his accurate analysis and prediction of that stock market crash and resulting world economic crash the interesting thing that many people don't really realize about michael berry was he actually foresaw that crash coming many years before it actually happened so he was actually betting against the housing market since 2005.

and keeping that in mind what i'm about to tell you in this video is something you should be aware of if you want to protect your financial assets and your positions michael barry is an interesting character the reason he knew about the crash before all the regulators on all the institutions who were actually paid to check up on what's going on in the economy of the us and and the world economy is that he burns a midnight candle he is really someone who who does his research he leaves no stone unturned he's the type of person who when he when he gets after something he really really you know kind of gives his all and in that way he he can you know come up with some brilliant analysis some of the things that the regulator should be doing he does it better than you know thousands of regulators also the important thing with michael berry is he doesn't surround himself by billionaires and celebrity millionaires um he's someone who's very much in touch with the real world so that gives him an edge and domain expertise just to remind you i remember that time many many top businessmen around the world lost a lot of money and some even saw their fortunes decimated to the point that they lost everything this was due to the fact that they weren't keeping their eye on the ball you know they were too busy you know counting their chickens and and parting away on their yachts and they were over extended and over leveraged when the crash that michael berry predicted finally came about i mean there's a scene in the movie the big show where christian bale is going through thousands of mortgage bonds mortgage documents literally line by line he's going through all the data to make sure his analysis is correct and that is what actually happened you know a lot of people have said that this is the type of person michael bury is he he makes sure he does leave no stone unturned and there are very few multi-millionaires like him hedge fund investors like him that actually do the analysis of themselves that is why for someone like me i do follow michael berry on twitter so when he tweets something i do look into what he is saying because i know if he's mentioned something if he said something he's done the research and he's done the analysis and he's not just saying things just to get clout so when he starts talking about coming market collapse you know it's something that i start to think about a little more seriously than before so he was very active on twitter and this year in early 2021 he was talking about inflation in the u.s way before any of the mainstream cnbc news or any of the business channels were talking about inflation and he was actually comparing u.s inflation with hyperinflation in 1920s germany and then he finished his tweetstone with this message people say i didn't warn last time i did but no one listened so i won this time and still no one listens but i will have proof i warned he then took down all his tweets and left just one tweet which was a review of this local restaurant which was nice of him and he went silent i did check back a couple of times and then i thought maybe he got a bit sick of twitter because in 2021 twitter did become very toxic i also have a hunch that maybe he had some open positions in the market at the time and his team advised him not to post too much just in case it was seen as market manipulation for the record it wasn't and that's not something that michael berry kind of does there's a lot of other people that we see on the business channels regularly who do a lot of that but it's not his game at all later on in the year in june actually in the summer he came out tweeting and when he does tweet this is what he tweeted people always ask me what is going on in the markets it is simple greatest speculative bubble of all time in all things by two orders of magnitude so when i read this it sent a bit of a shadow down my spine and to be honest it did make me think because i have also been thinking where these markets are going and where things are going in general i was trying to weigh up whether to put more money in my businesses or add to my stock portfolio which way to you know go and how to hedge so i do understand where he is coming from in a way as an investor the fundamentals have not been all on point it's been a rather chaotic time in the markets and definitely one of the most challenging times to research and do your analysis and make a thesis about you know where you would like to put your money it has all been a bit upside down with valuations of companies going through the roof even though there's no real underlying sales data to back up those valuations share prices of a lot of companies boomed this year and i couldn't see the underlying data and i'm sure a lot of other people who will really know how to look into you know companies they they also couldn't see why these share prices you know were going up to that extent and why the market cap was just ballooning actually on their trading floors there was a there was a running joke to boost your share price all you had to do this year was mention either crypto in in an interview or mention it in some of your official filings and voila you would just get a boost to your share price this was all against the background of uh the ongoing pandemic and we've just come out of a lot of lockdowns around the world this year and there still is a lot of uncertainty usually markets hate that but um the markets have just been going up and up and we're still not in the clear you know there still is a lot of uncertainty but the markets they've been going up like we've achieved some sort of economic mirana on earth now i know this is what happens when you know there's zero percent interest rates and government is giving money out for free to people i've seen it all before in 2007 and eight but um what really is puzzling and what really does uh make one worry is on top of that kind of environment that we had in 2007 eight we've also got a pandemic which is decimating um you know economies around the world and really has changed things up so what is really worrying is i see all the signs which we saw leading up to the 2007 and eight housing market collapse and the subsystem financial meltdown around the world i see it today i've seen it all year and it is quite worrying because there are huge countries around the world that because of the pandemic they haven't really got back on their feet again but things markets have have really still been continued to do well so it's quite puzzling at the moment what is going on and when you think about all the money that is in the markets there's a lot of it that is borrowed money with these cheap you know loans and interest rates at the moment and loans do have to be paid back you know when the music stops that's it now we all know investing is risk and reward and in the past in uncertain times people used to put money into bonds or maybe put more money into blue chip companies with bonds not paying much back much of a return back and blue chip companies struggling with their share prices compared to random companies which have no underlying you know profitability a lot of people have been investing in companies that possibly they wouldn't have invested in if they weren't literally getting free money so that makes it quite challenging because those companies have been going up through the roof and then people have then looked at other companies which they they were even less likely to invest in um and even other asset classes so money starts flowing into riskier asset classes and fomo kicks in and we've seen a lot of that the fear of missing out has been one of the big drivers in the market especially with younger investors it really has been hard to find a company that isn't overvalued at the moment we have even seen people invest large amounts of money in spax before they've they have even brought a business which means you don't really know what you're buying into spaxa special purpose acquisition companies i'm going to make a video about them probably in a couple of weeks it's an interesting new area of investing light church regulation is one of the key words for all sparks sparks are essentially a shell company you invest in a spark hoping that they invest in the business that's going to turn you to you know it's going to be a unicorn and turn into you know some business that's worth billions of dollars so you're just investing in an empty company essentially and people have spent hundreds of millions of dollars investing in spax this year people have also been putting money into cryptocurrencies which is an asset class that doesn't produce any money worse still people have been investing in meme stocks which literally end up being worthless weeks later so as barry said all of this leads to great speculation unfortunately michael bury has also taken a swing at the cryptocurrency bubble now i do happen to be a fan of crypto and i do think you know decentralized currencies do play a part in the future so i'm not really in that camp but i can understand some of his reasoning for saying what he is saying he said all hype slash speculation is doing is drawing in veto investors before the mother of all crashes formal parabolas don't resolve sideways when crypto falls from trillions and meme stocks fall from tens of billions main street losses will approach the size of countries history ain't changed michael berry also said the problem with crypto as in most things is the leverage if you don't know how much leverage is in crypto you don't know anything about crypto no matter how much else you think you know so that's a word of warning there from michael berry and a weather warning from myself so i think if you're in the market right now especially in the crypto or meme stock space because markets and investors might add are behaving like they're in a casino be aware that in a casino you don't play with money you can't afford to lose within minutes if you are overexposed try to limit the exposure without crystallizing any losses if you can just take some chips off the table and enjoy the ride like a good night out at the casino with friends so because michael berry doesn't have such a high profile compared to jeff bezos or elon musk it was something i found interested and i thought i'll make a video out of that if you are interested in finance or investing please click here for my next video and i'll see you on the other side please do like subscribe and share i'll be making more videos in 2022
