Tom Lee dropping another bombshell of an interview, this time on our home-based New York Stock Exchange kind of podcast. Okay, so it is an interview where he tells a couple of things that are quite interesting. So, stay tuned and let's dive in. Welcome to the game on the roof of Dubai. Welcome to a brand new video.
If you don't know who I am, my name is Danny and I'm looking for stocks that can go up 10, 20, 30, 40X and we are in Bitmain before it went 10X and I did this with Tesla. Tesla went from $23 to $11. I was down like minus 50%. I put my life savings into that and I pounded here every single day similar to Bitmain that Tesla will be a huge company and you know, the rest is history.
And even my subscribers bought houses and apartments because they listened to me. This is obviously never financial advice and you should make your own research, but if you connect the points and see the logic behind BM&R, you can become quite interesting financially, okay? Follow me on both of my channels and also on X.
And also, let me know what you think about our new shorts that we are posting every now and then. Now, I also never advertise any other product, no crypto stuff, no brokers, no anything because I believe I have the best product out there. This is extendaytrading.com where we trade totally for you all automatically, all hands-off with our software, the autopilot that looks like that that you just have to switch on before the market opens and all the trades coming into your portfolio all automatically.
If this is interesting and you have $10,000 to start, then check out extendaytrading.com, the first link in the description. This is where the website there is where you schedule the call and then we see you obviously in the personal call with me and we see if we can help you as well. So, Tom Lee start with this interview and I love that there's so much content about Bitmain because you want that the investors are informed about the daily things that happen on the market, that happens in the future for Bitmain.
So, I think this is something absolutely fantastic and this is how you should run a company and this is how Tom Lee runs this company as well, okay? So, let's dive in into the first part of this video. Welcome back everyone. John Furrier, host of the Cube here in our NYSE studio. Of course, we're in our Palo Alto studio on the West Coast connecting the East Coast to our crypto trailblazers.
Back by popular demand, Thomas Lee with Funstrat Capital. A big success with what he's doing. Great to see you back again. Great to see you. Yeah, um First of all, we had a great conversation last time around how you got your treasury, you got the the debt, you got um the staking on Ethereum. Um People love that.
I mean, they love that market. But there's a little event happened in October that kind of put a little ripple in the pond, if you will. Talk about that dynamic because I think a lot of people were talking about that being a moment in the industry. Uh yeah, well, on October 10th, um there was a headline, uh you know, related to Trump and China trade relations that caused a pretty big drop in crypto prices and that triggered a cascade of events that led to the biggest liquidation single day liquidation in the history of crypto.
So, it was bigger than FTX, bigger than COVID. And um I think it exposed that there were some problems within the plumbing of crypto uh and those ripple effects are still happening uh today. And and it was really take me through the the the the impact cuz Bitcoin and Ethereum handled pretty well. Yeah.
Or or did it? What was the main force there? Well, there's a there's a lot of people who are kind of trying to put these put the events together, but you're right. Bitcoin and Ethereum actually proved to be pretty resilient. I think they only fell roughly peak to trough 7% during that liquidation. A lot of the smaller cryptos fell 80% or more.
But what they ended up tracing this to is there was a feature in some of these exchanges called ADL, automatic um liquidations. And when the collateral that someone puts to borrow money, if the price of that drops, it triggers an automatic sell. So, some of the small stablecoins actually went below a dollar momentarily.
So, what you thought was safe collateral cuz it was worth a dollar, suddenly fell 40% and that triggered a cascade of liquidations. That's that is what spread sort of really quickly across the network. Is that a macro, micro kind of combination thing all happening at once because it begs the question do this I guess is the wrong word to say small cap coins, but um as crypto has multiple tokens does that signal maybe a consolidation?
Does that signal maybe a rethinking of what should be even in the system? Um you know, I think as people look back, um I think Bitcoin and Ethereum held up really well uh because like it under in in prior episodes of liquidation events that you could have seen Bitcoin and Ethereum fall 30, 40%. But instead, they barely fell.
But it but in that market there's a there is a bit of leverage cuz crypto does attract people who like to use leverage and there's volatility, but that combination can be quite lethal when liquidity shrinks. Yeah. And so, it was kind of a negative, adverse combination of factors. So, he says that this was a first, you know, big liquidation event since Corona and other big big big big events on the markets and this is huge opportunity, guys, okay?
Usually, the weak hands are getting washed out of the markets and with that, this is the biggest opportunity out there to really be into crypto again and I think that will happen towards the end of the year with the seasonality is coming in. But Tom Lee is saying that always and then this is something like Warren Buffett says as well, right?
Be greedy when others are fearful. And you see that over and over again that the retail investors usually capitulate when something goes down and down and down for longer period of time, then they sell finally after they have been down maybe 50% and exactly at this point, everybody who wanted to get into Bitmain and institutional investors and like JP Morgan all goes in and then everything explodes.
I saw this many many times over in Nvidia and Robinhood and Palantir in Tesla. I saw that many many times and and I don't think we even went to this kind of crazy point for Bitmain. I can see imagine now something a black swan thing happen and Bitmain goes to five. Okay, just just imagine. I would be the most happiest person ever, okay?
Because then everybody who's investing into this company could average down and then it would go from five to 500 to 1,000 and imagine how crazy that would be, okay? So, you know, you can see here the mindset is the most important. Also, listen to people like Tom Lee that are 40 years on the markets already and I think that now we dive into the second part.
But before we dive into that, check out extendaytrading.com if you want us to trade for you all automatically with our autopilot software by our day trading team with the help also of AI that we developed by our own. Absolutely insane. Check it out and let's dive into the second part of this staking.
They're all in on Ethereum. Bitcoin, we all know is a store value. Ethereum's a productive asset. Um Talk about that aspect because there's financial opportunities in thinking of it that way. Explain again why you think the Ethereum staking is so important because if you're getting yield. Yeah. Well, yeah.
You can organize around that. Yeah, I mean, I think foremost, Ethereum uh is a smart contract blockchain. So, you can essentially program a lot of information and store it. Um that allows you to do a lot of things that are uh really useful and it's in contrast to Bitcoin which really is essentially stored energy, you know, or digital gold.
Yeah. Um one of the big breakouts this year in terms of product adoption has been stablecoins, which is a dollar that's tokenized onto the blockchain. And a tokenized dollar or stablecoin is useful because you can use fractional payments, you know, instead of something being in pennies um a stablecoin drops to 12 digits.
So, you can it's good for micro payments and there's a lot of finality, right? You can send money, send dollars and and you know that these transactions are final. Well, it turns out Wall Street's interested in tokenizing more than just dollars. There's a lot of talk about tokenizing as Larry Fink would say, tokenize everything onto the blockchain.
So, equities, bonds, credit, real estate, what they call real world assets. Um you'll need a neutral blockchain to actually essentially create these products and run it on. Ethereum makes a lot of sense because it's got a very a vast network of validators, meaning there's a lot of security. Uh it's also been around the longest, you know, it's celebrating 10 years.
Yeah. And um it has had 100% uptime, which means it's very reliable. And the Ethereum Foundation, you know, has been pushing forward uh ideas and projects and uh in a way that is trying to be Wall Street friendly and I think that's also really important. You know, fact fact that we're they're hosting an event here at the NYSE makes all the difference in the world.
The NYSE is the most prestigious exchange in the world, right? Everybody in any country who does markets knows what the NYSE is. Yeah, and with the sovereignty issues going on with US dollar, with stablecoin the symbol of capitalism, as I said, you called it Darwinism last time we chatted, which I was was a fun comment.
It does represent a symbol. Yeah. Even though we're going digital. Yeah. And the stable coin now backed by the US dollar has huge implications. That's right. Huge implications. That's right. And I think what we have to remember is for everything that happens in the real world, like economic activity, there's one unit of financial transaction.
So, the NYSE sits really at the center of that. You know, everything that happens in the world has to essentially go through an exchange. And you know, NYSE's again the most prestigious exchange. Yeah, and I think NYSE is owned by ICE now. I think, you know, I I lived the past 25 years in Silicon Valley, grew up in New Jersey.
So, I kind of knew NYSE. I know the East Coast and West Coast. I've seen both cultures, lived there both sides. The NYSE had a was it's own thing. Now, it's owned by ICE. ICE is a huge monster company. Yeah. data. And if you look at the NYSE history, I was just talking with another interview about this.
They still have stuff on paper. [snorts] Used to close the exchange down just to count the papers. If they overloaded, then they went digital. So, they're not they're not a stranger to like format changes. So, I think you got a good point there. And I I was in meetings where I've heard um they're open and their arms are open for for crypto infrastructure.
Yeah. data. It's more exchange opportunities. So, what's your view on that because we say go paper, go digital, digital to crypto. That I mean, it's a natural progression for the NYSE. Uh yeah, there's a lot of unlocks that come. You know, like moving well, foremost, more things are moving to digital.
Um you know, I think more than 50% of all economic growth over the past 10 years has been native digital. And it's just a matter of time that as money has become digital, like, you know, and you're tokenizing digital dollars, that it means that what becomes traded on a digital exchange isn't just stocks anymore.
And it's not just bonds. And it's not even just real estate. It may be prediction markets. You know, that's become a huge breakout. Polymarket investment 2 billion by in weight. Yeah. And Polymarket has really been good signal for markets. You know, they Polymarket correctly predicted the in the 2024 election 50 out of 50 states.
You you know, the prediction markets got those correct. And in the New York City mayoral election, correctly called Mondami as the winner. So, the prediction markets are proving to be really good signal for markets. But also that's taking events and making it a financial product. Yeah, I mean, converts everything to data.
All right, if if you look at the market today, okay, and I asked you, okay, in the in your world, okay, when you're staking and you're running this now crypto native thinking and systems that you're building and management management of it, when I say what's a headwind and what's a tailwind, how would you answer that question?
What is the headwind and what's the tailwind for you? Well, yeah. Um well, I mean, I'd say the headwind for crypto continues to be um that it is a very competitive marketplace. And so, there's a lot of ideas and, you know, the best ideas win. So, Mhm. Uh it's important for people to navigate that carefully.
Um because there's a lot of DeFi projects out there and a lot of good ideas, but, you know, only a handful are going to really break out. Um on the tailwind side, of course, is that we know that there is enormous efforts and interest in moving everything onto the digitally onto the blockchain. So, that's that's going to be a 10-year tailwind for the industry.
Yeah, I like the idea of the trading of real world assets. I think that's where I see a lot of opportunity. What does that do to the TAM? You mean, the TAM is incredible if you think about what the TAM is. I mean, Yeah. Uh yeah. today compared to what it could be with other assets coming in, not just stock.
Yeah, I mean, I think in, you know, Ethereum's network value today is uh you know, maybe 400 billion or so. But global GDP is 90 trillion, okay? The total size of global financial markets is, you know, 200 trillion. Maybe more. Yeah. It might even be 300 trillion. How much of that ends up on blockchains?
The idea, according to Larry Fink, is to move 100% of this onto the blockchain. So, we're talking trillions of dollars of assets moving onto layer one blockchains. Um that creates a lot of network value for the underlying chain that's essentially the base layer. So, yeah, it's Yeah, and you have to Larry Fink multiple times.
Also said to Bestin, they're all pro this direction. Yeah. So, we could see, you know, exponential upside. All right. Well, what's new for you? What's on your plate now? What are you working on here for the 10th anniversary party? Good to see you. We'll see you on the floor for sure. Uh what do you what do you focus on now?
What's on your to-do list? Well, uh there's there's a lot on the to-do list. You know, I think that um you know, with with regard to Bitmain, Bitmain continues to to do really well. It's now the it's the largest holder of Ethereum in the world. Last time I was here, it was just starting and now owns close to 2.9% of Ethereum.
Um and uh you know, there's a lot of it investor education out there. A lot of people are really interested in learning about uh well, one, how to actually create products onto the blockchain. Um there's a lot of interest in people deploying stablecoins. And a lot of folks want to work with us on understanding that.
Well, Toss, thanks for coming on the Q. Appreciate it. Great to see you again. you can see here that tokenization of everything is something that he pounds and pounds and pounds and pounds always and ever again, okay? And Ethereum is on the forefront for all of that. And he'll call it a financial product.
This is a new one, okay? And I think that this is also a key to BM&R. At some point, he said that he want to be like a financial structure company, okay? For a lot of things that are coming, a lot of things that I actually are developing with the tokenization of everything. We have so many different ways of provide services and products to Wall Street.
And Bitmain will be at the absolutely forefront. This is the key to have a 250, 500, and in the end of the day a $1,000 stock. And with that, make sure to check out xena.trading.com. I'll see you tomorrow. And remember, the grass is greener always on the other side.
