In this video, I'll help answer the question, is Broadcom a buy, hold, or sell? And stay to the end. I'll let you know what I'm doing with this stock. If you don't know me, my name is Sean Teran. I'm the founder and CEO of Ticker. If you're new to investing or want to get better at investing, rest assured you're in the right place.
Here at Ticker, we help people buy and sell stocks with confidence. Before we dive in, if you're curious and you want to see the latest scores on Broadcom, you can join Ticker for free. All right, let's dive in. The first thing we'll touch on is how does Broadcom make money? So, what I like to do is when I look up a stock in ticker is I'll see these tabs across the top and I'll click on details.
Well, this little snippet of text gives a little summary of how the business makes money. And then if you scroll down, you can get a little snapshot of the company. Like you can see here, they are founded or they're located in Palo Alto, California. They went public in 2009. And then I like to click this link here and open up their website.
And then what I like to do is I like to go to like a product or services page. page and you can see here they have products and then they have solutions. So close enough to services. But this will give us a good idea. How do they make money? Well, there is a lot here, a lot of ways to make money. And I kind of summarized it here.
I'll just kind of give you the highlights. So they organize their business model in really two main categories. Semiconductor solutions and infrastructure software. So within that they have networking. They uh sell Ethernet switches, routers and network processors. They also have wireless solutions, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS.
They also have AI accelerators essentially using AI to help their systems run more efficiently. They have broadband and storage. They have cyber security and they have cloud and virtualization. They acquired VMware back in 2023, which is a pretty big company on its own. That really helps improve its cloud infrastructure.
So, think of like hosting software applications. And then some of their biggest customers include Apple, Alphabet, Meta, and Amazon. All right, let's touch on their latest earnings report. So, they increased their revenue by 22% over the last year. And then it looks like this is kind of a not a rumor, but there was an announcement of a $10 billion order from a large company.
This is an article from CNBC talks about this. A lot of people are saying it could be Open AI. Not saying it is, but still. I mean, $10 billion doesn't matter who it comes from. That's a sizable contract. So, good on Broadcom for the outstanding earnings report and this latest announcement of this mystery company with the $10 billion order.
All right, let's jump in a ticker and really find out what's going on with this business. We're going to walk through the seven. It's kind of like the easy button to determine if a stock is a really strong stock or weak stock. And we're going to do this manually. Of course, you can click the easy button and click on the seven tab.
We're not going to do that yet, but if you are curious, I always say this, you can go to ticker.com, go to education, and then down to calculations. You can see all the open source calculations for ticker. We don't want to hide anything from anybody. We try to be transparent so you have a better idea on how to analyze stocks on your own.
All right, so let's get in the broadcom. The first thing we want to look at is the summary. Stocks and ticker are either on sale, watch, or overpriced. That's green, gray, or red. And only about 15% of stocks make it to on sale. We can see that Broadcom is a watch as we speak. So in that middle tier, to get to on sale, you would need a 50 or higher in this hexagon.
That's the score. That's the overall financial strength of a stock. And then you also need a margin of safety of 50% or higher. So we can see here they got a 91. Overall financial strength is great. However, the margin of safety is only at 1%. And that's driven by the EPS growth rate. That's the profits of the company.
Their profits aren't growing as fast as we'd like. We'll take a closer look at that in a second. Next up in the middle is the 4M confidence booster. This is like another layer of confidence to, you know, you get through the financials and like, all right, I want to really understand, is this a strong business?
Well, let's take a closer look at the 4 M score. You can click boost confidence and these are the 4 M. Warren Buffett kind of used a version of this, but then Phil Town, he coined the phrase 4M. You can see the math part here. And we've got the meaning. This is how the business makes money and how scalable those revenue streams are.
Scalable means you can increase your revenues a lot faster than your liabilities. Next up, we have the moat, which is how the business compares to other businesses in the same sector and industry. And then the last M would be the management. That's the track record of the CEO. Doing homework and all four could take you hours, if not days, of research.
We reduce it down to seconds and we give a score between 0 and 100. If you can get between 80 and 100, that's high confidence. Anything between 60 and 79 is moderate confidence. And anything 59 or lower is probably something you want to avoid. All right, we'll close this. That takes about a minute to get through on your own, but since this rolls up the summary or it really rolls up the average, we can see here it's at a 75.
Still pretty good, but not the 80 we want to arrive at. All right, let's keep going down below. We can see the chart. Now, this chart is quite impressive. Over five years, the S&P 500 typically returns about 80%. And we want to find stocks that are beating the market. There's a lot of people out there, they're finding ETFs and they're finding stocks that maybe keep up with the market and quite a bit that are less.
And my question is, why would you pick stocks like that? Why don't you just invest in the S&P 500 if you simply want to match the market? So, at Ticker, we're helping people get beyond that, get bigger returns. We don't guarantee it, but we do help guide people to stronger stocks that can accelerate your wealth building process, help you make more money in less time.
So, looking down below, check this out. We don't have 80%, we have 855% with Broadcom. That is incredible. And of course, we know that past performance does not guarantee future results, but we do like stocks that have strong financials and they're consistently beating the market. All right, let's keep going.
We're almost done. We'll go to the financials tab. We can see here the revenues are increasing. Slow and steady, but they are increasing. But then if we go to that number one most important line on the financial statements, that's the EPS. We do have a bit of a red flag here. It's not the end of the world, but it is worth paying attention to.
We can see the profits are decreasing. That's why that margin of safety is a 1%. We can see here 117 $1.17 down to $105 and then down to 88. So we want to see exactly the opposite those profits increasing. So I don't love that. But it hasn't really slowed down the business, especially the share price over time.
One more thing to look at, that'd be the earnings calendar. We want stocks that consistently beat those earnings reports. And we can see here that Broadcom has definitely done that. You want three quarters in a row and Broadcom has done exactly that. So we can see here almost 6% then 6% just barely and then 1.8%.
So So doing pretty well there. All right, let's go ahead click on the seven tab and I think we're going to get going to get about five four five here. Let's see. Three. Oo, I was a little off there. Okay, that's right. The summary, the margin of safety we missed, 4M we missed and EPS. All right. So, even though this has been a highf flyer returning some really big returns, it's just a bit of a risk to me right now because if institutions all a sudden, let's say on the financials, here's a situation.
Let's say it goes from 88 cents down to like.75 and you miss on your earnings because the financials the overall scores there are just they're not the strongest. But if you get those negative indicators again you have a lower EPS and you miss on earnings that could just be enough to cause the dominals to fall in the wrong direction.
In other words, that could trigger a sell-off moment. So if you're holding this stock doesn't mean I' I'd sell out right. I'd probably just make sure you add it to your ticker watch list. So, if any ratings change even further, like if it jumps from on sale down to overpriced, you're going to get a notification on that.
Just going to give you a heads up that you can kind of sell out of it before the rest of the market starts selling so you don't lose a bunch of money. That's what I would do at least. But in this case, I actually have Broadcom on my watch list. I'm looking for the other direction. I want it to flip from watch to on sale.
that green rating that's going to show that especially that EPS is increasing. It's moving in the right direction. So overall, that's what I would do with Broadcom. Now, if you want to see the latest score of Broadcom, you can join Ticker for free. And there's a few key benefits of Ticker. Number one, you can know when to buy and sell stocks.
Number two, you can see my portfolio. And number three, we are connected to about 25 brokers, which means you can connect your broker in most cases, and you can automate your portfolio tracker.
