Hey. Hi everyone. Welcome to another video. So today we are going to go through Fidelity and uh its founders and uh you know how uh they have grew the company and uh we'll also go through uh the Peter Lynch who is a famous uh hedge uh uh asset manager or fund manager and uh his uh professional journey also we'll go through today and what challenges the firm faced Fidelity and how it grew also we'll go through uh So, Fidelity uh investments uh is founded by um in 1946 by Edward C.
Johnson 2 who built uh it upon the fidelity fund. The fidelity fund was established in 1930. Johnson 2 uh basically believed that individual fund managers and not committees uh will uh should drive performance. Okay. So he believed that individual fund managers can you know uh drive the performance and not committees uh at the helm.
Okay. Yeah. What are the innovations uh uh that uh are done uh basically our Puritan fund was established in 1946 that's fidelity's first income oriented fund and no load mutual funds and the launch of fidelity.com was done in 1995. So leadership and growth Edward C. Johnson uh three uh Ned Johnson who is a Harvard uh gradu joined in 1957 uh expanded growth strategies from uh mid 1960s.
Okay. And Abigail Johnson uh who is a Baker scholar from Harvard Business School became CEO in 2014 and uh CEO and chairman in 2016. under uh his uh under their leadership basically Fidel Fidelity grew from grew to 5.3 uh 8 trillion assets under management and they also launched uh cryptocurrency services like Bitcoin, Ether in 2018.
What are the achievements and challenges? uh uh you know Fidelity basically investments grew from a single fund to a global powerhouse managing mutual funds, ETFs, uh brokerage, retirement and crypto. The f the challenges that they faced are they uh spun off Fidelity Ventures uh which was uh shut down in 2010 due to uh volatility and uh competitive pressure uh from passive investing like ETFs uh is also one of the challenges they faced especially from Vanguard which is a pioneer and ETF investing u and they recently shifted towards advice and fee reductions.
Okay. So they uh adapted with the digital innovation zero expense uh ratio funds and expansion into crypto and advice services. Okay. So that's about fidelity and uh Edward C. Johnson and Abigail Johnson and uh how they have grown the company how the fund has uh you know changed from fidelity fund to puritan fund okay and uh it became a powerhouse of mutual funds ETFs brokerage and retirement crypto now so Peter Lynch was a uh legendary uh fund manager at uh Fidelity and uh he manages the melanin fund.
His early life and education is he is born in 1994 Newton um Massachusetts and uh yeah his youth was under the patronage of George Sullivan. He did a BA in finance in Boston College and MBA from Watton. His fidelity career uh he joined as Indian in 1966 returned in 1969 after military service as a full-time research analyst advanced to director of research uh in 1977.
Then uh yeah he was a Melanin fund manager at age 33. Okay. Yeah. He is mainly influenced by Edward Johnson. Edward Johnson was the person who uh brought him into Fidelity Performance. Yeah. So his melanin fund is a legendary fund and uh he led that fund from 1977 to 1990 and asset center management grew from 18 million to 14 billion.
He achieved a 29.2% annualized return outperforming the S&P 500 and grew uh 10K to 280K during that time. key investment principles that he followed are buy what you know. So you he used to go and uh learn about the companies uh that he knew how the business model works and how the company operates similar to like Warren Buffet of Burkshshire Hathway and he also uh he even used to go to companies to see you know how the customer feedback is how the customers are uh feeling about that company and then uh PG ratio is something which he has invented uh which is uh u P by e uh over growth.
So this is a new ratio that is invented by uh Peter Lynch. Okay. He focused on discovery through personal insight. So this is his main thing. So he used to find multibaggers by personal insight and uh fundamental research. Fundamental research he used to do. But again he uh used to go and personally uh see that company.
So buy what you know or personal insight. That is his fundamental thing. Fundamental research plus personal insight is how he used to identify the multiers. He wrote some influential books like one uh upon a wall street beating the street learn to earn. Uh okay so these are all very influential books.
He died at 46 only age 46 as vice chairman at Fidelity because he wanted to spend his life with his family and uh yeah he advocated for everyday investors using accessible and common sense strategies. So quick wrap- up is uh you know Fidelity Investments was founded in 1946 by Edward C. Johnson too and uh he Abigail Johnson was uh the uh leader of Fidelity investments till 2014 assets and management of this fidelity investment is 5.8 8 trillion core strategies diversified funds, digital innovation, crypto investments challenges, ETFs, basically passive competition, venture arm failures.
Uh so so venture capital failures they had. Coming to Peter Lynch, uh he managed a megalen fund and uh he was the manager of it. He grew it from 18 million to 14 billion and yeah he retired as a vice chairman and uh he's mainly famously known for bottom of the king PG ratio boy what you know he retired while he was at three speed performance.
So Fidelity is a mutual fund powerhouse and uh it was led through visionary leaders leadership of Edward Johnson through innovative products and digital transformation. Peter Lynch's meal funer elevated the fund's uh reputation the firm's reputation and uh yeah his approach of uh investing and extraordinary still you know uh inspire many fund managers.
So that's the uh you know that's it for today. This is uh about Fidelity and uh the founders Edward C. Johnson and Peter Lynch the uh legendary fund manager. Thanks everyone for joining the call. Have a nice day. Bye.
