For those of you who thought, or were led to believe by the media, that SpaceX stock would be some kind of get-rich-quick scheme—well, that's not exactly how it looks. SpaceX shares are constantly falling. We talked about this earlier in the week, and they've fallen even further since then . In a month, 5 weeks after going public, the company lost $1 trillion in value.
On Wednesday, the stock fell below its IPO price of $135, touching the $ 132 mark and even $75 before recovering and closing slightly higher. At least, at the time of our graphic creation, they had dropped to $123, which is 15 bucks less than a few days ago when we did the report. This means the rocket company has lost $320 billion in market value since its IPO and a trillion since its peak.
But it's clear that in the period between the IPO and the peak, some people made quite a bit of money. That's how it usually works. And if after that the shares are dumped, then again , some have already managed to get their profits. And this is somewhat logical, given what we've heard about the company's expected profits in a year or two.
They say that in two years the company will receive 25 times more profit. And this is just hype. Hype has always worked for Elon Musk, but at some point I'm not sure if it's worth the trillions of dollars of hype. It just doesn't seem logical to me. I was at the gym the other day, and this guy from NASA, a former NASA employee, started talking to us and said, "I don't like this Elon Musk guy. You know, I don't like what he's doing with SpaceX." And a lot of people here don't approve of what they're doing at SpaceX.
He said that contracts used to be very competitive. They were received by scientists, people who were truly the best in their field. They approached various universities and recruited people there. And now all the money is going to SpaceX, because Elon Musk is behind it. And there are many reasons why this is happening, because the government is constantly trying to cut funding for NASA.
